In this paper, a multi-step optimization using a G.A. (Genetic Algorithm) with variable penalty function is introduced to the structural design optimization of a 5-head route machine. Our design procedure consist of two design optimization stage. The first stage of the design optimization is static design optimization. The following stage is dynamic design optimization stage. In the static optimization stage, the static compliance and weight of the structure are minimized simultaneously under some dimensional constraints and deflection limits. On the other hand, the dynamic compliance and the weight of the machine structure are minimized simultaneously in the dynamic design optimization stage. As the results, dynamic compliance of the 5-head router machine was decreased by about 37% and the weight of the structure was decreased by 4.48% respectively compared with the simplified structure model.
Recently, regulations on greenhouse gas emissions have been strengthened, and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been strengthening greenhouse gas regulations with a goal of net 'zero' emissions by 2050. In addition, in the shipbuilding/offshore sector, it is important to reduce operating costs, such as improving propulsion efficiency and lightening structures. In this regard, research is currently being conducted on topology optimization using 3D printed composite materials to satisfy structural lightness and high rigidity. In this study, three topology shapes (hexagonal, square, and triangular) were applied to the interior of a rudder, a ship structure, using 3D printed composite materials. Structural analysis was performed to determine the appropriate shape for the rudder. CFD analysis was performed at 10° intervals from 0° to 30° for each rudder angle under the condition of 8 knots, and the load conditions were set based on the CFD analysis results. As a result of the structural analysis considering the internal topology shape of the rudder, it was confirmed that the triangular, square, and hexagonal topology shapes have excellent performance. The rudder with a square topology shape weighs 78.5% of the rudder with a triangular shape, and the square topology shape is considered to superior in terms of weight reduction.
In this study, specimens were produced with a column member and a wooden gusset only by inserting an wooden gusset which is a substitute for steel plate into the center of a slit-processed column member. The moment resistance performance of the specimens was compared with that of control specimens that used a steel plate. The measured maximum moments of the specimens produced with GFRP-reinforced wooden laminated gussets and pins were lower by 24% on average compared to the steel plate-inserted specimens, but they showed good toughness. The fracture shape suggests that it was fractured along the annual rings between the pin and the end of the column member. The rigid specimen that integrated a laminated wood and a wooden laminated gusset with adhesive showed 2.8 times greater initial rigidity and 40% greater maximum moment on average compared to the control specimen. The rigid specimens mainly fractured on a glulam around glue line.

In this paper, a multi-step optimization using genetic algorithm with variable penalty function is introduced to the structural design optimization of a grinding machine. The design problem, in this study, is to find out the optimum configuration and dimensions of structural members which minimize the static compliance, the dynamic compliance, and the weight of the machine structure simultaneously under several design constraints such as dimensional constraints, maximum deflection limit, safety criterion, and maximum vibration amplitude limit. The first step is shape optimization, in which the best structural configuration is found by getting rid of structural members that have no contributions to the design objectives from the given initial design configuration. The second and third steps are sizing optimization. The second design step gives a set of good design solutions having higher fitness for lightweight and minimum static compliance. Finally the best solution, which has minimum dynamic compliance and weight, is extracted from the good solution set. The proposed design optimization method was successfully applied to the structural design optimization of a grinding machine. After optimization, both static and dynamic compliances are reduced more than 58.4% compared with the initial design, which was designed empirically by experienced engineers. Moreover the weight of the optimized structure are also slightly reduced than before.

Among the material handling system, EMS (Electric Monorail System), which is the facility of transferring the material hanging on truss, has the strength point of the maximum utilization of working space and the improvement of working environment including low-level noise generation. This paper will introduce the variable method of EMS rail analysis, which has the main role of supporting the whole material weight and guiding them with high-speed transportation, and, based on the analysis, the direction of optimization of the rail design be described. The rail with light-weight and high-strength contributes the reduction of the load of truss, the cost-down of rail production and the easy-installation on site.

In this study, structural design of the propeller blade for turboprop aircraft was performed. The propeller shall have high strength to get the thrust to fly at high speed. The high stiffness and strength carbon/epoxy composite material was used for the major structure and skin-spar-foam sandwich structural type was adopted for improvement of lightness. As a design procedure for the present study, firstly the structural design load was estimated through investigation on aerodynamic load and then flanges of spars from major bending loads and the skin from shear loads were preliminarily sized using the netting rule. In order to investigate the structural safety and stability, stress analysis was performed by finite element analysis code MSC. NASTRAN. Finally, it is investigated that designed blade have high efficiency and structural safety to analyze of aerodynamic and structural design results.

Modern advanced-turboprop propellers are required to have high structural strength to cope with the thrust requirement at high speed. The high stiffness and strength carbon/epoxy composite material is used for the major structure and skin-spar-foam sandwich structural type is adopted for advantage in terms of the blade weight. As a design procedure for the present study, the structural design load is estimated through investigation on aerodynamic load and then flanges of spars from major bending loads and the skin from shear loads are sized using the netting rule and Rule of Mixture. In order to investigate the structural safety and stability, stress analysis is performed by finite element analysis code MSC. NASTRAN. It is found that current methodology of composite structure design is a valid method through the static structural test of prototype blade.
