  • Carrier Ethernet backbone network integrates distributed layer-2 based metro networks. In this networks, Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) has been uscd as a main routing protocol that allows multiple spanning trees in a network. A better routing protocol called IEEE802.1aq - Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) is recently proposed, that generates the shortest spanning tree per a destination node. As SPB provides a routing path per a destination node, there is no way to adapt network traffic at normal condition. If we are free from the principle of "a spanning tree per a destination node", we can achieve adaptive routing. Based on this philosophy, we propose a new spanning tree based protocol - Edge Node Divided Spanning Tree (ENDIST). ENDIST divides an edge node into sub-nodes as many as connecting links from the node and each sub-node generates a single shortest path tree based on SPB. Depending on network or nodal status, ENDIST chooses a better routing path by flow-basis. This added traffic engineering ability contributes to enhanced throughput and reduced delay in backbone networks. The simulation informs us that ENDIST's throughput under heavy load performs about 3.4-5.8 and 1.5-2.0 times compared with STP's and SPB's one respectively. Also, we verified that ENDIST's throughput corresponds to the theoretical upper bound at half of cases we investigated. This means that the proposed ENDIST is a dramatically enhanced and the close-to-perfect spanning tree based routing schemes.

  • Deformable models offer an attractive approach for extracting three-dimensional boundary structures from volumetric images. However, conventional deformable models have three major limitations - sensitive to initial condition, difficult to represent complex boundaries with severe object concavities and protrusions, and self-intersective between model elements. This paper proposes a deformable model that is effective to extract geometrically complex boundary surfaces by improving away the limitations of conventional deformable models. First, the proposed deformable model resamples its elements hierarchically based on volume image pyramid. The hierarchical resampling overcomes sensitivity to initialization by extracting the boundaries of objects in a multiscale scheme and enhances geometric flexibility to be well adapted to complex image features by refining and regularizing the size of model elements based on voxel size. Second, the physics-based formulation of our model integrates conventional internal and external forces, as well as a non-self-intersecting force. The non-self-intersecting force effectively prevents collision or crossing over between non-neighboring model elements by pushing each other apart if they are closer than a limited distance. We show that the proposed model successively extracts the complex boundaries including severe concavities and protrusions, neither depending on initial position nor causing self-intersection, through the experiments on several computer-generated volume images and brain MR volume images.

  • Recently, a single or multi processor system uses the hierarchical memory structure to reduce the time gap between processor clock rate and memory access time. A cache memory system includes especially two or three levels of caches to reduce this time gap. Moreover, one of the most important things In the hierarchical memory system is the hit rate in level 1 cache, because level 1 cache interfaces directly with the processor. Therefore, the high hit rate in level 1 cache is critical for system performance. A victim cache, another high level cache, is also important to assist level 1 cache by reducing the conflict miss in high level cache. In this paper, we propose the advanced high level cache management scheme based on the processor reuse information. This technique is a kind of cache replacement policy which uses the frequency of processor's memory accesses and makes the higher frequency address of the cache location reside longer in cache than the lower one. With this scheme, we simulate our policy using Augmint, the event-driven simulator, and analyze the simulation results. The simulation results show that the modified processor reuse information scheme(LIVMR) outperforms the level 1 with the simple victim cache(LIV), 6.7% in maximum and 0.5% in average, and performance benefits become larger as the number of processors increases.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify groups depending on the change trajectory of child maltreatment in childhood and early adolescence. For this study, the data from waves two through six (2011-2015) of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) were used. Participants included first-grade (n=2,300) and fourth-grade (n=2,325) elementary school students. A latent class growth model (LCGM) using Mplus 7.21 was adopted to classify the types of developmental trajectories of child maltreatment. The main results were as follows: First, in physical abuse, childhood from the second to the sixth grades was classified into four groups: decreased, low maintenance, increased, and no maltreatment type. In addition, early adolescence from the fifth grade of elementary school to the third grade of middle school was also classified into the same types. Second, in emotional abuse, childhood was classified into three groups: decreased, increased, and no maltreatment type. Early adolescence was classified into four groups: decreased, low maintenance, increased, and no maltreatment type. Third, in neglect, childhood was classified into four groups: maintenance, low decreasing, low increasing, and no maltreatment type. Early adolescence was classified into three groups: maintenance, low increasing, and no maltreatment type. According to the change of child maltreatment by developmental period, physical abuse continued from childhood to early adolescence, whereas emotional abuse and neglect increased in early adolescence compared to childhood. This study is meaningful in classifying latent classes depending on maltreatment types. Theoretical and practical implications were suggested based on the study results.

  • As tourists travel to other regions, they encounter numerous facts that conflict with their views. At that time, we change our view of coping with life. In this respect, tourism is a new way of learning. As a new learning method, tourism experience research is a new approach. In this study, the relationship between experience and learning experienced in tourist destinations was analyzed by applying the activity theory. The analysis units applied in the activity theory were set as subjects, goals, communities, roles, methods and rules, outcomes, and relevance to local communities. Based on this, in-depth interviews were conducted with commentators and guides who had a great influence on the tourism experience to analyze the learning process of tourists. As a result of the analysis, the experiences of tourists during the tour were interactive in various forms within the unit as well as the unit of the activity system of the commentator and guide. This interaction induces changes in the tourism experience activity system, enabling tourists to learn. The content is that the value of learning increases as the role of guide and commentator increases, that the social and cultural dimension of tourism experience is included in the learning effect, and the contradictions that arise from interactions within or between activity systems. The fact that they find the solution process themselves, and that tourism activity is not an isolated unit, but exists at the intersection of hierarchies and networks, is affected by the activities and environments of others.

  • In order to reduce public medical expenses as well as to provide effective medical services, telemedicine between doctors and patients is considered as an alternative to the conventional hospital visit. But the medical community has been protesting the introduction of telemedicine for the efficacy and safety reasons. Korean government has been conducting a number of pilot projects to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of telemedicine for more than 10 years. However, still the system is not yet legalized. In this study, we have conducted a telemedicine pilot project in Cambodia for one year, where telemedicine can be more freely exercised. After the project, we conducted a survey based on the 'Rogers diffusion' theory. Survey results show that both physicians and patients are positive about the relative advantage of the telemedicine. However, the complexity and high cost of the equipment used in telemedicine has been found to be a possible obstacle. In addition, we found that there is no problem for providing telemedicine services under challenged environment, such as in Cambodia.

  • It is necessary to develop a system to judge inferiority of goods to minimize the loss at small factories in which produces various kinds of goods with small amounts. That system can be developed based on HTM theory. HTM is a model to apply the operation principles of the neocortex in human brain to the machine learning. We have to build the trained HTM network to use the HTM-based machine learning system. It requires the knowledge for the HTM theory. This paper presents the design and implementation of the training system to support the development of HTM networks which recognize the molding parts to judge its badness. This training system allows field technicians to train the HTM network with high accuracy without the knowledge of the HTM theory. It also can be applied to any kind of the HTM-based judging systems for molding parts.

  • A support vector machine (SVM) is supposed to provide a good generalization performance, but the actual performance of a actually implemented SVM is often far from the theoretically expected level. This is largely because the implementation is based on an approximated algorithm, due to the high complexity of time and space. To improve this limitation, we propose ensemble of SVMs by using Bagging (bootstrap aggregating) and Boosting. By a Bagging stage each individual SVM is trained independently using randomly chosen training samples via a bootstrap technique. By a Boosting stage an individual SVM is trained by choosing training samples according to their probability distribution. The probability distribution is updated by the error of independent classifiers, and the process is iterated. After the training stage, they are aggregated to make a collective decision in several ways, such ai majority voting, the LSE(least squares estimation) -based weighting, and double layer hierarchical combining. The simulation results for IRIS data classification, the hand-written digit recognition and Face detection show that the proposed SVM ensembles greatly outperforms a single SVM in terms of classification accuracy.

  • Since Korea open her ports to the West, she had undergone a great change under the alien influences both on the macro-social and micro-social aspects. This study aims to review the korean housing, corresponding with the everyday life, during the period of transition between the 1876 - 1910 and to interpret its process of modernization and the meaning of modernity. With regards to understand the holistic human relationship and place pf living through history, this study takes the Nobert Elias' Civilization Theory as a theoretical basis. References were therefore, made to various records of foreign missionary at the time, with respect not only to macro sociological changes but also to changes of everyday life. It is of course to take physical and structural aspects of housing architecture into consideration. These works, thus, led to presuming the housing culture of said period. In order to investigate modern character of korean housing, distinctively represented by spatial structure, considerations were made to various architectural examples according to the social and residential status both in urban and rural area. As a results, this paper came to the remarks as follows; 1. It is understood, that the process of modernization is a part of the process of civilization as synthetic process. It is integrated with the change of socio-cultural aspects and everyday life. 2. Korean housing in the said period shows various different residential status and grade of civilization according to the social status as well as economical status. Modern housing was not in general yet. 3. Housing for high classes and middle classes in Seoul shows a tendency of assimilation and imitation after western model. But some examples within the housing of high classes represent its own modernity, that is based on the rationalism and equalization 4. In the housing of lower classes, it was very far from the benefits of civilization. It could analogize from the immature control of disgrace, from undevelopment of individual territory and from uncultivation of rationality in the housing space.
