In this paper, we propose a single view-based technique for the estimation of human height and position. Conventional techniques for the estimation of 3D geometric information are based on the estimation of geometric cues such as vanishing point and vanishing line. The proposed technique, however, back-projects the image of moving object directly, and estimates the position and the height of the object in 3D space where its coordinate system is designated by a marker. Then, geometric errors are corrected by using geometric constraints provided by the marker. Unlike most of the conventional techniques, the proposed method offers a framework for simultaneous acquisition of height and position of an individual resident in the image. The accuracy and the robustness of our technique is verified on the experimental results of several real video sequences from outdoor environments.

Efficient filtering is an important factor in RFID system performance. Because of huge volume of tag data in future ubiquitous environment, if RFID readers transmit tag data without filtering to upper-layer applications, which results in a significant system performance degradation. In this paper, we provide an efficient filtering technique which operates on RFID air protocol. RFID air protocol filtering between tags and a reader has some advantages over filtering in readers and middleware, because air protocol filtering reduces the volume of filtering work before readers and middleware start filtering. Exploiting the air protocol filtering advantage, we introduce a geometrical algorithm for generating air protocol filters and verify their performance through simulation with analytical time models. Results of dense RFID reader environment show that air protocol filtering algorithms reduce almost a half of the total filtering time when compared to the results of linear search.

This paper presents a feature extraction method for shape based retrieval of 3D models. Since the feature descriptor of 3D model should be invariant to translation, rotation and scaling, it is necessary to preprocess the 3D models to represent them in a canonical coordinate system. We use the PCA(Principal Component Analysis) method to preprocess the 3D models. Also, we apply that to make a MBR(Minimum Boundary Rectangle) and a circumsphere. The proposed algorithm is as follows. We generate a circumsphere around 3D models, where radius equals 1(r=1) and locate each model in the center of the circumsphere. We produce the concentric spheres with a different radius($r_i=i/n,\;i=1,2,{\ldots},n$). After looking for meshes intersected with the concentric spheres, we compute the curvature of the meshes. We use these curvatures as the model descriptor. Experimental results numerically show the performance improvement of proposed algorithm from min. 0.1 to max. 0.6 in comparison with conventional methods by ANMRR, although our method uses .relatively small bins. This paper uses $R{^*}-tree$ as the indexing.

Cable dome structures are composed of cables-masts and the cables should be in pre-tension since a structure without pre-tension is not stable. Under the pretension, self equilibrium stress state is the main characteristic of a cable dome structure. In this paper, a new method based on the basic principle of closed force polygon for equilibrium system is proposed for the determination of self-equilibrium mode of cable dome structure. The proposed method which is called geometric method has the unique characteristic of visualization of the force mode needed for maintenance of self-equilibrium. The basic theory for a self equilibrium of structure is that the summation of forces at each joint without any external load should be zero. The simplicity of the method which involves only drawing close polygon with the aid of suitable CAD software has been illustrated by means of a example. The results compared with mechanical calculation and existed method and shows good agreement.

This paper propose a novel method for tracking moving object based on covariance matrix and Riemannian Manifolds. With image backgrounds continuously changed, we use the covariance matrices to extract features for tracking nonrigid object undergoing transformation and deformation. The covariance matrix can make fusion of different types of features and has its small dimension, therefore we enable to handle the spatial and statistical properties as well as the component correlation. The proposed method can estimate the position of the moving object by employing the covariance matrix of object region as a feature vector and comparing the candidate regions. Rimannian Geometry is efficiently adapted to object deformation and change of shape and improve the accuracy by using geodesic distance to predict the estimated position with the minimum distance. The experimental results have shown that the proposed method correctly tracked the moving object.
This paper presents a method for automatic 3-d building reconstruction using high resolution aerial imagery. First, by using edge preserving filtering, noise is eliminated and then images are segmented by watershed algorithm, which preserves location of edge pixels. To extract line segments between control points from boundary of each region, we calculate curvature of each pixel on the boundary and then find the control points. Line segment linking is performed according to direction and length of line segments and the location of line segments is adjusted using gradient magnitudes of all pixels of the line segment. Coplanar grouping and pplygonal patch formation are performed per region by selecting 3-d line segments that are matched using epipolar geometry and flight information. The algorithm has been applied to high resolution aerial images and the results show accurate 3D building reconstruction.

In this paper, we present a method that utilizes geometry-based sound generation techniques to efficiently handle multiple sound sources, wind turbulence, and temperature-dependent interactions. Recently, a method based on reduced raytracing has been proposed to update the sound position and efficiently calculate sound propagation and diffraction without recursive reflection/refraction of many rays, but this approach only considers the propagation characteristics of sound and does not consider the interaction of multiple sound sources, wind currents, and temperature. These limitations make it difficult to create sound scenes in a variety of virtual environments because they only generate static sounds. In this paper, we propose a method for efficiently constructing a sound map in a situation where multiple sounds are placed, and a method for efficiently controlling the movement of an agent through it. In addition, we propose a method for controlling sound propagation by considering wind currents and temperature. The method proposed in this paper can be utilized in various fields such as metaverse environment design and crowd simulation, as well as games that can improve content immersion based on sound.

In this paper, we propose a GPU-based method for real-time processing of dynamic re-meshing required for tearing cloth. Thin shell materials are used in various fields such as physics-based simulation/animation, games, and virtual reality. Tearing the fabric requires dynamically updating the geometry and connectivity, making the process complex and computationally intensive. This process needs to be fast, especially when dealing with interactive content. Most methods perform re-meshing through low-resolution simulations to maintain real-time, or rely on an already segmented pattern, which is not considered dynamic re-meshing, and the quality of the torn pattern is low. In this paper, we propose a new GPU-optimized dynamic re-meshing algorithm that enables real-time processing of high-resolution fabric tears. The method proposed in this paper can be used for virtual surgical simulation and physics-based modeling in games and virtual environments that require real-time, as it allows dynamic re-meshing rather than pre-split meshes.
The lighting reflection is a common problem in image analysis and causes the many difficulties to extract distinct features in related fields. Furthermore, the problem grows in the rainy night. In this paper, we aim to remove light reflection effects and reconstruct a road surface without lighting reflections in order to extract distinct features. The proposed method utilizes a 3D analysis based on a multiple geometry using captured images, with which we can combine each reflected areas; that is, we can remove lighting reflection effects and reconstruct the surface. At first, the regions of lighting sources and reflected surfaces are extracted by local maxima based on vertically projected intensity-histograms. After that, a fundamental matrix and homography matrix among multiple images are calculated by corresponding points in each image. Finally, we combine each surface by selecting minimum value among multiple images and replace it on a target image. The proposed method can reduces lighting reflection effects and the property on the surface is not lost. While the experimental results with collected data shows plausible performance comparing to the speed, reflection-overlapping areas which can not be reconstructed remain in the result. In order to solve this problem, a new reflection model needs to be constructed.
Pore network models are useful tools to investigate soil pore geometry. These models provide quantitative information of pore geometry from 3D images. This study presents a pore network model to quantify pore structure and hydraulic characteristics. The objectives of this work were to apply the pore network model to characterize pore structure from large images to quantify pore structure, calculate water retention and hydraulic conductivity properties from a three dimensional soil image, and to combine measured hydraulic properties from experiments with calculated hydraulic properties from image. Soil samples were taken from a site located at the Baltimore science center, which is located inside of the city. Undisturbed columns were taken from the site and scanned with a computer tomographer at resolutions of 22 ${\mu}m$. Pore networks were extracted by medial-axis transformation and were used to measure pore geometry from one of the scanned samples. Water retention and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity values were calculated from the soil image. Properties of soil bulk density, water retention and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity were measured from three replicates of scanned soil samples. 3D image analysis provided accurate detailed pore properties such as individual pore volumes, pore length, and tortuosity of all pores. These data made possible to calculate accurate estimations of water retention and hydraulic conductivity. Combination of the calculated and measured hydraulic properties gave more accurate information on pore sizes over wider range than measured or calculated data alone. We could conclude that the hydraulic property computed from soil images and laboratory measurements can describe a full structure of intra- and inter-aggregate pores in soil.
