  • LCP/PA alloy was prepared by blending poly(${\varepsilon}-caprolactam$) (PA) with liquid crystal polyester, Vectra (LCP) having high elasticity and strength. The alloy prepared amorphous PA with more than 10 parts of thermotropic LCP had poor compatibility. To increase the compatibility of the alloy, compatibilizing agent, poly(glycinylmaleimide-co-methylmetacrylate)[poly(GMI-co-MMA)] copolymer was prepared by copolymerizing N-glycinylmaleimide(GMI) with methylmetacrylate(MMA). And then, it was blended with LCP and PA to produce LCP/PA alloy having an excellent compatibility. The compatibility characteristics of the alloy prepared from LCP and PA using the poly(GMI-co-MMA) was determined by measuring the thermal characteristics of glass transition temperature of nematic LCP, and rheological properties, and also high rate impact and flexual characteristics of the alloy were determined.

  • A sensitive stripping voltammetric study of the complex of indium with 8-hydroxyquinoline at a hanging mercury drop electrode was investigated in 0.1M acetate buffer solution. The effects of various analytical conditions on the reduction peak current of the adsorbed complex were discussed. Optimal analytical conditions were found to be the ligand concentration of $2 {\times}10^{-5}$M, solution pH 4.75, scan rate of 10 mV/s, deposition potential of -0.450V, a deposition time of 90 second. Interferences by other trace metals and Triton X-100 were also discussed. Detection limit was 0.2 ppb of indium after 90 sec. Deposition time, and the relative standard deviation(n = 10) at 4 ppb was 3.2%.

  • We have investigated tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) properties of Fe/$Al_2O_3$/Co magnetic trilayer junctions sputtered on single-crystal Si (001) substrates. $Al_2O_3$ layers with thicknesses of 50~200 $\AA$ were deposited directly on the bottom ferromagnetic layer by a reactive rf sputtering. For comparsion, we prepared Pt/$Al_2O_3$/Pt tunnel junctions whose current-voltage (I-V) characteristics measured at 300 K indicated that reactively sputtered $Al_2O_3$ is a particularly good material for thin insulating barriers and allows us to form pinhole-free tunnel barriers. The magnetic tunnel junctions exhibit changes of tunnel resistance of about 0.1% at 300 K with an applied magnetic field and it was found that most junctions with Co as a top electrode have rather good I-V and TMR characteristics compared to those with Fe as a electrode. These results were discussed in relation to interfacial on the basis of those for Pt/$Al_2O_3$/Pt.

Thermographic Inspection of Fatigue Crack by Using Contact Thermal Resistance (접촉 열저항 효과를 이용한 피로균열의 적외선검사)

  • Fatigue crack was detected from a temperature change around surface crack using the thermographic technique. Thermal gradient across the crack decreased very much due to thermal resistance of contact surface in the crack. Heat diffusion flow passing through the discontinuity was visualized in temperature by infrared camera to find and locate the crack. A fatigue crack specimen(SM-45C), which was prepared according to KS specification and notched in its center to initiate fatigue crack from the notch tip, was heated by halogen lamp at the end of one side to generate a heat diffusion flow in lateral direction. A abrupt jump in temperature across the fatigue crack was observed in thermographic image, by which the crack could be located and sized from temperature distribution.

  • Nanocomposites based on coupling $TiO_2$ matrix with nanosized noble metals (Pt,Au) particles exhibited promising photoelectrode properties. The $M/TiO_2$ (M=Pt,Au) nanocomposite thin films were deposited on quartz and ITO glass substrates using a co-sputtering method. $TiO_2$ in rutile form is the dominant crystalline phase for as-deposited nanocomposite films. Along with heat treatment up to $600^{\circ}C$, XRD peaks of the rutile phase as well as those of noble metal increased in intensity and decreased in width, indicating the growth of crystallites. The anodic photocurrents of $M/TiO_2$ (M=Au,Pt) thin films were observed not only in the UV range but also in the visible light range. The photocurrent of the nanocomnosite films extended to the visible light region by dispersion of nano-sized noble metal in the $TiO_2$ matrix.

Estimation of Mechanical Properties of Tungsten-Fiber-Reinforced Ti-MMCs by Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP 처리 티타늄기 MMC 의 기계적 특성평가)

  • The objective of this study is the estimation of the mechanical properties of HIP-treated MMCs by an optimized manufacturing process. The Ti-MMCs were fabricated by HIP and rotary swaging (RS) for secondary processing. The Ti-MMCs with different tungsten fiber contents of 0, 6, 9, and 12 vol% were subjected to tensile tests, fatigue tests, and hardness tests. The results show that the hardness values of Ti-MMCs increased with the increasing volume percent of tungsten fibers, the tensile strength increased by approximately 50% (specific strength: 38%) at the 9 vol%. The value of tungsten-fiber orientation F affects the tensile strength. The fatigue strengths of the Ti-MMCs did not improve. HIP is a useful manufacturing method for Ti-MMCs and RS is an important process for improving fiber orientation during secondary processing.

  • Ionic liquids (ILs) existing in the liquid ion form under standard conditions show a unique properties. 1-10-Alkyl-3-methyl-imidazolium bromide ([C10mim][Br]) is one of the ILs that shows amphiphilic characteristics under specific conditions. This property enables it to function as a surfactant, and therefore, it finds applications in a wide range of areas. In this study, we tried to predict the behavior, especially the aggregation aspect, of [C10mim][Br] in an aqueous solution using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The canonical (NVT) ensemble was used to relax the system and trace the trajectory of atoms. Several case studies were simulated and the interaction among [C10mim]+, [Br]-, and water was analyzed using the radial distribution function of each atom. The density distribution function was also used for the structural analysis of the entire system. We used the Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS) code for the present MD simulations.

  • 전자기기의 휴대성과 이동성이 강조되고 있는 현대사회에서 비휘발성 메모리는 메모리 산업에 있어 매우 매력적인 동시에 커다란 잠재성을 지닌다. 이미 공정의 한계에 부딪힌 Flash 메모리를 대신하여 10nm 이하의 공정이 가능한 상변화 메모리(Phase-Change Memory, PRAM), 스핀 주입 자화 반전 메모리(Spin Transfer Torque-Magnetic RAM, STT-MRAM), 저항 변화 메모리(Resistive Random Access Memory, ReRAM)가 차세대 비휘발성 메모리 후보로서 거론되고 있으며, 그 중에서도 ReRAM은 빠른 속도와 낮은 소비 전력, CMOS 공정 호환성, 그리고 비교적 단순한 3차원 적층 구조의 특성으로 인해 활발히 연구되고 있다. 특히 최근에는 질화물 또는 질소를 도핑한 산화물을 저항변화 물질로 사용하는 ReRAM이 보고되고 있는데, 이들은 동작전압이 낮을 뿐만 아니라 저항 변화(Resistive Switching, RS) 과정에서 일어나는 계면 산화를 방지할 수 있으므로 ReRAM의 저항 변화 재료로서 각광받고 있다. 그러나 Cell 단위의 ReRAM 소자를 Crossbar Array 구조에 적용시켰을 때 주변 Cell과의 저항 상태 차이로 인해 전류가 낮은 저항 상태(LRS)의 Cell로 흘러 의도치 않은 동작을 야기한다. 이와 같이 누설 전류(Leakage Current)로 인한 상호간의 간섭이 일어나는 Cross-talk 현상이 존재하며, 공정의 간소화와 집적도를 유지하면서 이 문제를 해결하는 것은 실용화하기에 앞서 매우 중요한 문제이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 Read 동작 시 발생하는 Cell과 Cell 사이의 Cross-talk 문제를 해결하기 위해 자가 정류 특성(Self-Rectifying)을 가지는 실리콘 질화물/알루미늄 질화물 이중층(Si3N4/AlN Bi-layer)으로 구성된 ReRAM 소자 구조를 제안하였으며, Sputtering 방법을 이용하여 제안된 소자를 제작하였다. 전압-전류 특성 실험결과, 제안된 구조에 대한 에너지 밴드 다이어그램 시뮬레이션 결과와 동일하게 Positive Bias 영역에서 자가 정류 특성을 획득하였고, 결과적으로 Read 동작 시 발생하는 Cross-talk 현상을 차단할 수 있는 결과를 확보하였다.

Evaluation of Cooling Process for Marine Shaft Forging Products (선박용 축류 단조품 냉각공정 평가)

  • This study was performed to solve the quality problems of forging propeller shaft components in the marine diesel engines during the final cooling process and provide reasonable guidelines to increase the production of forging products. Residual hydrogen existing on the inside of forging products begins to diffuse and accumulates at the pores, micro-fissures, and grain boundaries as the temperature of forging products begins to decrease and reaches a critical temperature range, and finally transforming into internal defects. These defects were easily found near the surface of products after milling the surface of forging products. In this work, four types of forging products (shaft flange, shaft journal, thrust shaft, and propeller shaft) were chosen to evaluate the temperature history of products during the cooling process, employing non-linear numerical analyses with the ANSYS program. The times elapsed to reach 250 ℃ after cooling were approximately 9 ~ 23 hours for each forging product. These times can be used as cooling process guidelines on the quality and productivity of products after heat treatment.

Surface Modification of Materials in KOMAC by Accelerator Technology (가속기 기술을 이용한 재료에의 표면처리기술 응용)

  • 가속기 기술을 이용한 재료에의 표면처리기술은 일정에너지를 가지는 이온이 재료표면에 충돌함으로서, 스퍼터링, 이온주입, 미세구조 변화 등의 현상을 이용하여 재료표면의 특성을 변화시켜 기계적, 화학적, 광학적, 전기적 특성 등을 변화시키는 표면개질기술에 활용되어져 왔다. 이러한 이온빔 표면처리기술은 이온의 종류나 시편의 제한 없이 치밀한 원자혼합물을 형성하고, 계면형성이 없고, 또한 저온공정이 가능하므로, 정밀도가 요구되는 부품의 내마모성과 내부식성 등을 포함한 기본적인 표면특성 뿐만 아니라 전기전도도, 친소수특성, 내광성 등 표면에 관계된 특성을 개선시키는 역할을 하며, 이온빔 믹싱, 이온빔 스퍼터링, 이온빔 전처리 후 코팅 등의 복합공정을 통해 보다 개선된 표면특성을 가지는 박막제조공정에 적용될 수 있다. 본 발표에서는 지난 10년간 가속기기술을 응용한 이온빔 장치기술 개발현황을 발표하고, 이러한 장치를 활용하여 이온빔 표면처리기술 사례인 내광성/내스크래치성 향상 고분자, 정전기방지, 초친수 표면처리, 기체투과도제어, 자외선차단 필름, 고속에칭기술 등의 기술개발 현황을 발표하고자 한다. 한국원자력연구원 양성자가속기연구센터에서는 수백 keV급의 이온빔 표면처리 장치 이외에도 100MeV 선형 양성자가속기를 이용하여 2013년부터 다양한 분야의 양성자빔/이온빔 이용자들에게 이온빔 장치와 20MeV와 100MeV 이용시설에서 양성자빔/이온빔 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 2016년 기준 이용자수는 양성자가속기 392명, 이온빔장치 279명이며, 이용자 수행과제는 양성자가속기, 이온빔장치 각각 130여개 과제가 수행되었다. 이러한 이용자들의 빔이용연구를 통해 20여편의 논문투고, 10여편의 특허출원의 성과를 얻었으며, 나노분야, 생명공학분야 등의 다양한 분야에서의 빔이용기술을 통해 활발한 연구가 이루어질 것으로 예상된다.
