Effect of single-person beauty company's managerial capabilities on management performance -Focusing on the moderating effects of beauty education institutions- (1인 미용기업 경영자 역량이 경영성과에 미치는 영향 -미용교육기관의 조절효과를 중심으로-)

  • This study checks how the managerial competency of a single beauty company affects management performance, and the managerial competency of a single beauty company has a moderating effect of a beauty education institution between management performance and presents related implications. As for the survey for the study, direct surveys and online surveys were conducted from May 1 to May 31, 2021, and a total of 218 copies were used for empirical analysis. As a result of the analysis, the managerial competence of a single beauty company was divided into three factors: psychological characteristics, technical characteristics, and management ability, and all factors influenced management performance. In addition, it was analyzed that the managerial competency of a single beauty company in beauty education institutions has a moderating effect in the relationship between management performance. Therefore, managers of single-person beauty companies should make various efforts to improve managerial capabilities that affect management performance, and above all, it is important to select educational institutions necessary for each reverse direction.

  • 최근 국내에서는 인구감소에 따른 일부 지역소멸이 화두가 되고 있다. 대부분이 농촌지역으로 여러 가지 원인이 있으나, 원인 중의 하나로 농업경영체의 성과 미흡에 따른 소득향상의 어려움이 있기 때문이다. 이를 극복하기 위해 정부와 지자체에서는 다양한 정책을 수립하여 지속해서 지원하고 있지만 큰 성과를 내지 못하고 오히려 농엉경영체의 요구사항만 많아지고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 경영자역량이 기업성과에 미치는 영향관계를 살펴보고 경영자역량과 기업성과 간에 있어 시장지향성이 매개역할을 하는지에 대해 분석하는데 있다. 본 연구에서는 농업경영체의 경영자역량을 독립면수로 하여 히위변수에 창의적역량, 네트워킹역량, 자기통제역량, 기술적역량을 선정하고 종속변수에는 기업성과를 매개변수로 시장지향성을 선정하고 연구를 진행하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 농업경영체의 경영자역량이 기업성과에 영향을 미칠 수 있고 시장지향성이 매개효과가 있을 것이라는 인과적 경로를 검증하고자 한다. 세계적인 불확실한 경제환경과 빠르게 변화되고 있는 국내 산업의 구조변화는 농업경영체들이 적응함에 있어 어려움이 존재하고 있는 상황에서 농촌에서 기업활동을 하고 있는 농업경영체 경영자역량의 주요 요인들을 설정하여 연구를 진행하였고 경영자들이 기업성과를 달성함에 있어 도움이 될 것이다.

Managerial Ownership and R & D Investment in the Chinese Firms : Comparison between State_Owned Firms and Private_Owned Firms (경영자 지분이 연구개발투자에 미치는 영향: 중국 국유기업과 민영기업 비교를 중심으로)

  • Using 1855 observations from 5 years-371 firms panel data during 2010 to 2014 in Chinese stock exchanges, this study examines the impact of managers' ownership on R & D expenditures. The empirical study finds that when firms are state-owned, managers' ownership have negative relation with the level of R & D expenses as well as the likelihood of executing R & D investment, implying that managers are less likely to invest in high risky projects due to managerial ownership's entrenchment effects to pursue private benefits rather than alignment of interest effect as shareholders. The empirical study also finds that when firms are private-owned, managerial ownership are inverse U shaped related to the level of R & D expenses, implying that managers are less likely to invest in high risky projects due to increasing risk aversion resulting from concentration of private wealth at its high level while managers are more likely to invest in high risky projects due to increasing incentives as shareholders at its low level. The results support that the effects of managerial ownership on R & D expenses may be different according to the ownership type of Chinese listed firms.

Impacts of Competencies of Small Business CEOs on Business Performance: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Network Activities (소기업 경영자의 역량이 경영성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the success factor of small business CEOs for continuous growth and development of business, and found it competencies of CEOs, and empirically studied the relationship between this factor and business performance. This study also focused on mediating effect of networking activity between competencies of small business CEOs and business performance. As a result of the study, it turned out that leadership competence, external cooperation competence and marketing competence have a significant effects on business performance. Small business CEOs' own efforts for increasing leadership, cooperation and marketing capability are needed as well as government policy and assistance in order to improve business performance. It also tested the mediating effect of networking activity to get information and resources, and proved it plays a role in enhancing business performance, so that it is necessary to promote small business CEOs' access to information and resources. Based on these empirical tests, government and supporting organizations need to refer to that factors affecting business performance are in priority supported in small business policy.

Product Market Competition and Internal Efficiency of the Firm (시장경쟁과 기업의 내부 효율성)

  • This paper analyzes a mechanism through which product market competition affects allocation of the managerial efforts. There are two types of firms, incumbents and entrants. Each incumbent firm delegates its control to a manager and cannot observe the manager's total effort. The managers of incumbent firms allocate their effort to two different activities: cost reduction (productive effort) and rent protection (unproductive effort). An increase in competition, measured by the number of incumbent firms, has two effects: an "output effect" which decreases the managerial incentive for productive effort, and an "effort substitution effect" that makes managers exert more productive effort and less unproductive effort. This paper identifies the conditions under which product market competition lowers the cost of providing incentives for productive effort and hence, to the conclusion that increased competition leads to increased efficiency.

Moderating effects of Income Smoothing on the relationship between managerial ability and manager compensation (경영자 능력과 경영자 보상의 관련성에 이익유연화가 미치는 조절효과)

  • A measure of managerial ability was derived using DEA, a measure of management efficiency, and the correlation coefficient between discretionary accrual and non-discretionary accrual, net income and operating cash flow standard deviation was used as a proxy for income smoothing. verified. In addition, the manager's compensation was used by taking the natural logarithm of the cash compensation per manager. The analysis results are summarized as follows. The analysis period for hypothesis testing is from 2004 to 2017, as a result of the hypothesis analysis of the correlation with the level of manager's compensation, it was suggested that the income smoothing behavior decreased the performance-based compensation and increased the performance-controlled compensation. This can be said to be the result of indirectly confirming that additional compensation is differentially paid for income smoothing. This study has a contribution to the study by empirically analyzing whether income smoothing affects the relationship between managerial ability and managerial compensation. However, although a number of previous studies empirically analyzed that there are upper and lower bounds for manager compensation, there is limitations that could not be analyzed for asymmetric compensation due to income smoothing is expected to expand.

The Influence of Manager's Wealth on Adopting Anitakeover Measures (경영자의 부가 기업의 반인수조치 선택에 미치는 영향)

  • 기업인수합병(M&A) 시장의 활성화에 따라 적대적 공개매수를 방어하기 위한 반인수조치(Antitakeover Techniques)들에 관한 관심도 고조되고 있다. 지금까지 널리 알려져 있는 대표적인 반인수 조치들은 Fair Price Amendment(FPA), Classified Board Amendment(CBA)와 Poison Pills(PP) 등이다. 이들 대표적 세 반인수조치들 중에서 FPA와 CBA 채택의 경우는 주주들의 사전 승인이 요구되는데 반하여 PP는 주주들의 사전 승인없이 채택이 가능한 반인수조치이다. 이처럼 상이한 반인수조치들의 채택은 채택기업의 가치에 상이한 부의 효과를 미치는데, 이 분야의 많은 실증적연구 결과들이 보고되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 표본기업으로 현재까지 상호개별적으로 연구되어 왔던 두가지 반인수조치(FTA, CBA)에 PP와 비채택기업도 포함시키고 있다. 지금까지의 반인수조치 채택에 따른 기업가치에 미치는 부의 효과에 관한 연구결과를 확인해보고, 반인수조치 채택에 관한 경영자의 의사결정과 경영자의 부 사이에 체계적인 관계가 존재하는지를 실증분석하고자 한다. 여기서 경영자의 부는 기업내부자 지분율과 기업내 경영자를 위한 Golden Parachute의 존재 유무로 측정한다. 본 연구에서는 3개의 가설을 설정하였다. 가설1: 만일 경영자가 주주의 이익을 희생하면서 자신의 이익을 위한 반인수조치를 채택한다면, 반인수조치 채택의 공표는 평균적으로 기업가치에 부(-)의 효과를 보일 것이다. 가설2: 경영자의 내부지분율이 낮을때 경영자들은 주주에게 가장 해로운 반인수조치를 선택할 것이다. 가설3: Golden Parachute가 존재하지 않을때 경영자들은 주주에게 가장 해로운 반인수조치를 채택할 것이다. 본 연구의 대상기업들중에서 반인수조치 채택 기업들은 IRRC 1990년도판에서 수집되었고, 대칭표본 기업으로 반인수조치를 채택하지 않은 기업들은 CRSP 파일에서 기업규모, SIC 코드를 대응시켜 선정하였다. 임원, 관계이사들과 친인척을 포함하는 내부자의 지분과 Golden Parachute 존재 여부는 이 연구의 표본기업들의 Proxy Statement에서 수집하였다. 최종 표본기업은 FPA 채택기업, CBA 채택기업, PP채택기업, 그리고 비채택기업으로 4개의 상호 배타적인 기업 그룹으로 구성되었다. 본 연구는 Event Study와 Multinomial Logistic Regession의 두가지 실증분석 방법을 사용하였다. Event Study방법론은 반인수조치 채택 공표시 초과수익률을 조사하기 위해 사용하였다. Multinomial Logistic Regession은 선택된 반인수조치 종류와 설명 변수들(내부자 지분율, Golden Parachute)간에 체계적인 관계가 존재하는지를 검증하기 위해 사용되었다. 반인수조치들을 채택하는 기업들은 반인수조치를 채택하고 있지 않은 기업들에 비해 내부자 지분율이 낮게 나타났으며, 반인수조치 중 PP를 채택한 기업에서 가장 낮은 내부지분율을 보이고 있다. GP 채택을 보면 PP를 선택한 기업의 50%가 GP를 채택하였다. 본 연구에서 반인수조치 채택 발표일 하루 전후의 초과수익률을 조사한 결과는 반인수조치 미채택기업, CBA, FPA 채택기업들의 초과수익률은 통계적으로 의미가 없었으나, PP채택에 따른 초과수익률은 의미 있는 부(-)의 값을 나타냈다. 이와같이 CBA와 FPA채택기업들은 주주의 부를 감소시키지 않았으나 PP채택기업들은 주주의 부를 감소시켰다. 따라서 경영자는 주주의 이익을 희생시키면서 자신의 이익을 위해 PP를 선택하고 있음을 보여 주고 있다. 연구결과는 내부자 지분율의 크기가 경영자와 주주간의 이해를 효과적으로 일치시키고 있음을 제시하고 있다. 즉, 내부자 지분율이 큰 기업일수록 반인수조치를 채택하지 않거나 반인수조치 채택시에 주주의 이익에 반하지 않은 반인수조치를 선택하는 경향이 높다. Golden Parachute이 존재하는 기업은 FPA를 채택하거나 반인수조치를 채택하지 않는 것보다 PP나 CBA를 채택하는 경향이 더 높다. 한편 기업에서의 GP의 존재가 경영자의 가장 해로운 반인수조치 선택을 억제하지 못함을 보여주고 있는데, 이는 GP가 비효과적인 계약메카니즘임을 제기한다. GP가 경영자와 주주간의 이해를 일치시키도록하는 계약이라기 보다는 차라리 기업방어전략이 비효과적일때 경영자 자신의 안전판으로 제공되고 있음을 보여준다. 이 논문의 주요공헌은 기업내부자 지분율의 크기와 GP의 존재가 반인수조치 선택에 체계적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 보여준 것이다. 여기서 사용된 Multinomial Logistic모델은 내부지분을 크기와 GP의 존재가 PP또는 CBA가 채택될 것인지를 예측할 수 있게 한다.

The effect of managerial ability on income smoothing (경영자 능력이 이익유연화에 미치는 영향)

  • Firms perform various actions that affect management performance measurement by managing the volatility and capital cost of reported income through income smoothing. This study attempted to analyze with a focus on the relationship between managerial competence and income smoothing. Therefore, this study attempted to analyze and focus on the relationship between managerial competency and profit softening using a measure of managerial competency presented in Demerjian et al. (2012). The results of the analysis are as follows. It was confirmed that there was a significant positive relationship between manager ability and income smoothing at the 1% level. When managers make income, it can be interpreted that managers with superior ability can make profits better by accurately predicting the future. It is the same result as the expectation of this study that managers with excellent ability have high incentives to soften profits by reducing profit volatility through more accurate forecasting. Therefore, this study empirically analyzed that managers with excellent abilities are more effective in implementing income smoothing strategies.

Effect of Managerial Ability on Reward Level and Performance-Reward Sensitivity (경영자 능력이 보상수준 및 성과-보상 민감도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study analyzed the effect of manager's ability on compensation policy (compensation level and performance-reward sensitivity). To this end, the final 14,150 company-year data were used for KOSPI and KOSDAQ listed companies excluding the financial industry from 2012 to 2019. As a result of the empirical analysis, the higher the manager's ability, the higher the next reward level (the manager's ability hypothesis), but the performance-reward sensitivity decreased. This confirms the manager ability hypothesis through a positive (+) relationship between manager ability and compensation, and means that high compensation for manager ability may be additional compensation for manager ability other than performance, rather than due to performance. This study differs from previous studies and has contributions in that it examines the more complex effects of managerial ability and compensation system.

The Effect of Creativity of Executives on Innovative Performance of Firms: Focusing on the Mediating Effects of Entrepreneurial Orientation and Technological Innovation Orientation of Research Organization (경영자의 개인창의성이 기업 혁신성과에 미치는 영향: 연구조직의 기업가지향성과 기술혁신지향성의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Creativity, entrepreneurship, and technological innovation orientation are key factors for technological innovation. The main driver of technological innovation in the enterprise is the executives of the firm. According to the Upper Echelons Theory of D.C. Hambrick(2007), the creativity of the managerial individual will be put into various aspects within the organization's innovation system. The organizational innovation system is positively influenced by the creativity of the executives, and is achieved by manifesting innovation orientation and technological innovation orientation with innovative performances. The purpose of this study is to investigate using Structural Equation Modeling(SEM), whether individual creativity of executives of 132 companies with research organizations among domestic semiconductor companies in Korea influences innovation performance of firms through entrepreneurship orientation and technology innovation orientation. We applied the personal creativity level measurement index, the entrepreneurial orientation measurement factor, and the technology innovation orientation measurement factor identified in the previous research literature. The results of the Structural Equation Modeling analysis show that the creativity of executives have a positive (+) relationship with the innovation performance of firms when they are only mediated by technological innovation orientation, and entrepreneurial orientation. On the other hand, the results of the SEM shows the direct effects between the creativity of executives and innovation performance are not statistically valid. As a result, the individual creativity of executives who lead the innovation of the firm, entrepreneurial orientation, and technological innovation orientation of the researcher organization are very important factors and an inseparable relationship for the successful innovation of the firms.
