  • Effects of cutting time and scions section on shooting and plantlets growth characteristics were investigated to increase plantlets products by root cuttings in lacquer tree. Shoot induction from scion section was developed lately as it planted in earlier season. However, shooting rates were over 84% or more in cut planting on 15, 25 March and 5 April than sinee 15 April. Shoots were developed evenly as late cut planting. Generally, plant height, branch number, leaf number, stem diameter, and leaf area per plantlets was excellent in cut planting on 25 March and 5 April. Shooting rate from the root scion varied greatly by root sectionings. The rate of the 10 cm-long-scion was reached 84%, whereas only 54% in no trimmed root scion after 10 weeks of cutting. Regenerated plantlets from root scion without cut were slightly good in shape, but their height, number of branch per plantlets, and stem diameter were not significant.

  • Sweetpotato infected by Soft-rot, Rhizopus nigricans, has been investigated for its biochemical changes. The results of the present experiment are summarized as follows: 1. From the Soft-rotted tuber, nineteen Ehrlich's positive substances and three fluorescent compounds which had not been found in a healthy tuber were detected with thin layer chromatography. 2, Ipomeamarone and umbelliferone, each of which are predominating substances among the Ehrlich's positive and fluorescent compounds, were isolated by silica gel column chromatography and studied for their identities. 3. Time course biosynthesis of the metabolites was studied and discussed for their possible biosynthetic pathways. 4. Among the metabolites, ipomeamarone and ipomeamarone-like substances have enzyme: inhibitive action against ${\alpha}$-amylase and probably other enzymes; the inhibition type was determined as the uncompetitive one. 5. Ipomeamarone obtained from soft-rotted sweetpotato was proved to have an uncoupling action as 2, 4-dinitrophenol.

  • The W/O emulsion is widely used for cosmetics because of its water-proofing benefit and long-lasting moisturizing effect. However, because of low stability of the W/O emulsion, it is very important to control the concentration of electrolyte and emulsifying agent, and ratio of water phase. Among these factors, we focused on the effects of different structures of emulsifying agents on the change of stability. Emulsifying agents were sorted into polyglyceryl ester, silicone and sugar series. We also examined the emulsifyingability of emulsifier by changing the ratio of normal and silicon oil in the oil phase. Through these experimental results, we figured out the property of w/o emulsion depending on the types of emulsifiers, and observed the stability of emulsion considering the change of particles and viscosity over time.

  • The pharmacokinetics of florfenicol (FF) after oral administration was studied in the cultured olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). After single administration of FF (20 mg/kg body weight) by oral route in olive flounder ($700{\pm}50$ g, $23{\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$), the concentration in the serum was determined at 1, 5, 10, 15, 24, 30, 50 and 168 h post-dose. The kinetic profile of absorption, distribution and elimination of FF in serum were analyzed fitting to a two-compartment model by WinNonlin program. The area under the concentration-time curve (AUC), maximum concentration ($C_{max}$), time for maximum concentration ($T_{max}$) and elimination time were 22.51 ${\mu}g{\cdot}h/mL$, 0.84 ${\mu}g/mL$, 8.62 h and 447 h, respectively. The results of this study related to dosage and withdrawal times could be used for prescription of FF in field for the treatment of bacterial diseases in olive flounder.

  • Various kinds of native herbage grasses like-Miscanthus sinensis, Arundinella hirta, Cymbopogen geirngii, Themeda japonica etc. are widely distributed in every Korean mountain. So we investigated the availability of native grass, Miscanthus sinensis as a substrate for the production of S. C. P. The results were obtained as follows. 1) At the alkali treatment, NaOH was the most effective with the exclusion of lignin, and pretreated Miscanthus with NaOH appeared to be a good substrate for the microbial growth. 2) When Miscanthus was treated with one to 10% NaOH, the microbial growth increased in proportion to the increased alkali concentration. Beyond 4% NaOH, a slight increase was observed. 3) Phosphoric acid, as a neutralizer, was the most effective in cell production after alkali treatment. 4) On the effect of incubation time, the productivity was best found at 60 hours, and the cell weight was 9.23 mg per 1 ml, and the microbial digestibility of substrate was 75.2%.

  • Hemagglutination-inhibition titers (log2) to Newcastle disease (ND) vims were chronologically observed in chicks, which were orally inoculated with 5 × 105 oocysts of Cwptospori, drum bcileyi at 2 days of age and subsequently vaccinated with inactivated ND virus at 4 and 21 days postinoculation. In general, the titers were considerably lower in the infected chicks than those in the uninfected control throughout the experimental period (p < 0.01), and rapid negative seroronversions were observed in the infected chicks. The titers reached a peak on weeks 2 and 4 post-booster-vaccination in the control and infected chicks, respectively. Thus, C. bciLeWi infection was shown to have an immunosuppressive effect on ND vaccination when the agent was given to 2-day-old chicks. It is suggested that C. bniLeWi infection in chicks may increase the host susceptibility to ND virus.

  • As a link in the studies on the extracellular polysaccharide by lactic acid bacteria, the experiment was conducted to investigate the viscosity variations of 10% reconstituted skim milk and optimum cultural conditions for the production of extracellular polysaccharide. 1. The viscosity of 10% reconstituted skim milk cultured by 8tr. thermophilu8 510 reached 5,000 CP at $41^{\circ}C$ and on 5 days. Because it was the highest value among the microorganisms tested, Str. thermophilu8 510 was chosen as a main test microoganism and studied on factors affecting maximum viscosity depending upon production of exopolysaccharide. 2. Absorbance of synthetic culture medium was highest at $41^{\circ}C$. Sucrose, in a member of carbohydrates, was the most effective carbon source for the production of exopolysaccharide within 5% concentration. 3. The production of exopplysaccharide was stimulated by $Mg^{++}$.

  • The typical sea-weeds such as laver, Sea tangle, tangle have been artificially polluted to measure the contents of mercury through the cooking methods of washing and immersion in acetic acid. The content of mercury of non-mercury treated laver sold in the market is $0.052{\pm}0.002\;ppm$, sea tangle, $0.048{\pm}0.005\;ppm$, and tangle, $0.078{\pm}0.010ppm$. Tangle showed the highest degree of pollution after 24 hours immersion in the 1ppm mercury solution, to be followed by sea tangle and laver. The effect of solution and dehydration in economic sense is in the order of Sea tangle, tangle and laver. In case of initial immersion in 1ppm $HgCl_2$ solution to be reimmersed in 1%, 3%, and 5% of HAC solution the residue mercury does not show much effect in density in laver, sea tangle and tangle.

  • In this paper, we suggest proper policy directions through an analysis onthe impact of changes in self-employment on the national economy. In other words, we intend to identify the current status of self-employment jobs and present policy directions for supporting self-employed workers. In order to grasp the dynamic relationship of variables, we used a VAR model to measure the impact of self-employment job fluctuations and macroeconomic variables on each other. The analysis results demonstrate that an exogenous shock to the ratio of self-employed workers does not show a significant impact on the nominal growth ratio. However, when the analysis was done separately on an exogenous shock to the ratio of self-employed workers with employees and without employees, an increase in the ratio of self-employed workers with employees showed a positive impact on nominal growth. On the other hand, an increase in the ratio of self-employed workers without employees showeda negative impact on nominal growth. In future studies, it will be necessary to do additional analysis on quarterly data to estimate the short-term impact of macroeconomic variables on changes in the ratio of self-employed workers.
