Effects of Acetic Acid on the Microbiological and Physicochemical Properties of Fresh Pork (초산용액 분무 처리가 신선돈육의 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the shelf life of fresh pork by spraying 2%(v/vf) acetic acid solution. Both treated with acetic acid and untreated pork were stored at $4^{\circ}C$. The spray of acetic acid solution was effective on growth inhibiton of aerobic and coliform bacteria. The pH, volatile basic nitrogen contents, and thiobarbituric acid value of fresh pork treated with acetic acid were lower than untreated pork during storage. Meat color was more darkened immediately after acetic acid treatment, but untreated pork was more darkened after 2 days storage.

  • The propellant tile and crack which account for the greatest proportion of solid rockets are profoundly affected by viscosity and mechanical properties of solid propellant. In this paper solid propellant with nitrate ester polyester(NEPE) system has been researched for the viscosity, mechanical properties and burning properties with size and mixing ratio of RDX. the viscosity of propellant was changed significantly depending on the size of RDX and mixing ratio, and mechanical properties of NEPE system propellant were also varied. Considering both lower viscosity and stable mechanical properties, the optimum size and mixing ratio of RDX can be identified as the main factors to the NEPE system propellant.

Fine Structure of Suxtaglomerular Cells in Streptozotocin-treated Normal and Genetically Diabetic KK Mice (Streptozotocin이 정상 ICR 생쥐 및 유전성 당뇨병을 가진 KK생쥐 사구체곁세포의 미세구조에 미치는 영향)

  • 당뇨병유발제인 streptozotocin이 생쥐 신장 사구체곁세포의 미세구조에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지를 알아보고자 일반계통인 ICR생쥐와 유전성 당뇨병계통인 KK생쥐에 streptozotocin을 투여하여 경시적으로 각 동물의 신장 사구체곁세포의 미세구조의 변화를 관찰하였다. Streptozotocin을 투여한 ICR생쥐의 사구체곁세포는 3일째부터 과립형질내세망의 미약한 팽창과 과립내에 대소 공포의 출현 및 용해소체가 간혹 관찰되었다. 그후 시간이 지남에 따라 더욱 심하여 특히 2주 및 4주에서는 과립형질내세망의 팽창, 사립체, 골지장치 및 리보소곤 등이 소수 출현하였는데 비해 대소 용해소체는 많이 관찰되었으며 심한 탈과립으로 인해 세포질내 과립의 면적이 현저히 감소되었다. 그러나 KK생쥐의 실험군에서는 전 실험군에 걸쳐 퇴행성변화가 적었으며 ICR 생쥐 실험군에 비해 그 영향이 훨씬 적었다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 보면 정상 ICR생쥐에 streptozotocin을 투여하자 되면 ICR생쥐 사구체곁세포에서 과립의 유의한 감소 및 세포내 미세구조의 퇴행성변화가 뚜렷한데 비해 KK생쥐 실험군에서는 ICR생쥐 실험군에 비해 손상을 적게 받았는데 이는 KK생쥐가 갖고 있는 당뇨병에 대한 내성에 의해 영향을 적게 미치는 것이 아닌가 추측된다.

  • Thermal cracks are occured when thermal stress due to the hydration of cement exceeds the tens~le strength of concrete. Since crackmg causes poor durability of concrete, the effect of ther ma1 cracking should be includod for the design and construction of massive concrete structures. In this study, an experiment is performed for the investigation of time dependent thermal stress history. In order to evaluate thermal stress. two methods are employed. One 1s the evaluation method of thermal stress based on the measurement from embedment stram gauge with non-stress strain gauge and the other 1s based on the measurement from concrete stress gauge. As a result of this study, the value corrected by the former shows good agreement with the latter. The validity of the proposed method for the evaluation of thermal stress 1s explored.

Assessment of Dust Reduction in the Enclosed Pig Building by Spraying Method with Liquid Additives (액상 첨가제 살포 방법에 의한 밀폐형 돈사에서의 분진 저감 평가)

  • Appropriate air quality in the pig building is essential to prevent farmers' health as well as to increase pig performance. This on-site experiment was conducted to assess dust reduction efficiencies of several liquid additives with spaying method in the enclosed pig building. The mean reduction rate of total dust only after spray was approximately 30% for all the treatments compared to initial level before spraying additives, which was found to reduce the initial level of total dust significantly (p<0.05). The mean reduction rate of all the treatments at 1hr after spray was about 24% which was 6% lower than only after spray. Since 3hr after spray, however, total dust level were fluctuated variably for all the treatments besides application of the soybean oil. Based on this result, effect of soybean oil on dust reduction in the enclosed pig building was most prominent among liquid additives evaluated in terms of efficiency and duration.

Long-term Changes in VOCs Emission of Finished Pine (Pinus rigida) Panels (도장처리 소나무 판재에서 방출되는 휘발성유기화합물의 경시변화)

  • In previous study, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission characteristics were highly affected by coating materials for wood finishing. Natural based coating materials showed that about 15~46% lower TVOC emission than typical products. In this study, long-term changes of VOCs emission characteristics from pine panel with three types of coating treatments were determined. Non-treated pine panel emitted $604.7{\mu}g/m^2{\cdot}h$ of TVOC that contained 66% of NVOC ($399.7{\mu}g/m^2{\cdot}h$) at 0 month. After 10 month, TVOC reduced 88% and 93% reduction on NVOC was observed. Natural oil and waterborne stain treated pine panel showed 61% and 77% lower TVOC, respectively, than non-treated pine panel. However, TVOC from finished pine panels showed higher TVOC emission than non-treated pine panel. All samples satisfied the VOC emission regulation (below $4,000{\mu}g/m^2{\cdot}h$) by Korean Ministry of Environment. Toluene emission regulation (below $80{\mu}g/m^2{\cdot}h$) was passed on all sample without varnish treated pine panel at 0 month. According to HB qualification standard for construction materials by Korea Air Cleaning Association (KACA), wood is not qualified to get the best tag due to high TVOC emission. At the 10 months, only non-treated pine panel could get the best tag of HB from KACA.

  • This study investigated effect of recycled fine aggregate quality on strength properties of concrete. Some investigations have been carried out to study the strength properties of recycled aggregate concrete. But these have some limitation due to small-scale test in the laboratory. Therefore concrete using this study were fabricated by ready-mix concrete. Variables were quality of recycled fine aggregate(high and low quality) and replacement ratio of 0%, 30%, 60%, 100%(high quality), 35, 70%(low quality). The change of air content of recycled aggregate concrete were similar to natural aggregate concrete. Replacement ratio of recycled aggregate was not necessarily correlated with compressive strength and modulus of rupture of recycled aggregate concrete.

  • In order to know about chemical properties of a commercial organofluoro rodenticide, $Kiratol-F^{(R)}$, this experiment was carried out. Chemicals from different two manufactures were compared with synthetic compound by Gas Chromatograph and NMR-spectrophotometer. The results were as followings; 1. The permitted active ingrdient of Kiratol-F, ${\beta}$-fluoro-ethylacetate, was not identified, but ${\beta}$-fluoroethanol was a new active ingradient. 2. Kiratol-F was a water soluble liquid containing samll amounts of chloroethanol in impurity. 3. Yield of synthetic fluoroethanol was about 50%, but the composition of the reactant was assumed ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-fluoroethanol, and the light condition was better than the dark in yield. 4. It was not become known any breakdown of active ingredient by the different dilutions and time intervals. So, the secondary toxicity of Kiratol-F might be relatively higher than imagination.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigation of the decomposition characteristics in a pilot-scale burial site of livestock in three kinds of typical soils in Korea: sandy loam soil, clay loam soil, and sandy soil. In this study, we confirmed that most of the animals in the condition were decomposed within three years as mentioned in the "Livestock burial regional environmental research guidelines." We also determined that the decomposition rate of dead cows was higher than that of dead pigs, and that the biodegradation rate depends on the soil types in the following order: sandy soil > clay loam soil > sandy loam soil. The various external environment factors, such as temperature, moisture, pH, earthiness, nutrient, and the burial depth, should be managed properly for appropriate decomposition of dead animals.

Corrosion Durability Evaluation of Uncoated Structural Steel Using Accelerated Exposure Tests (부식촉진실험을 이용한 강교용 무도장 강재의 부식내구성 평가)

  • The corrosion durability of steel bridge coatings, such as organic and metallic coatings, is often evaluated by field exposure tests, but such tests take from several years to decades to complete. As a potential method for fast corrosion testing, accelerated exposure tests were considered in this study. The S6-cycle accelerated exposure test, specified in the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS K5621), was carried out on uncoated structural steels for 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 days, and the resultant weight loss was determined. The weight loss was compared with that obtained from previous field exposure tests, and acceleration factors of the S6-cycle test to field exposure test sites were determined. The application of the S6-cycle accelerated exposure tests to field environments was presented based on the acceleration factor and the amount of flying salt.
