A Study of the Advanced Composite Material Slab for Light Weight of Tall Building (초고층빌딩 경량화를 위한 복합신소재 슬래브에 관한 연구)

  • For each construction material used, there is certain theoretical limit in sizes. For tall building construction, the reduction in slab weight is the first step to take in order to break such size limits. In this paper, the feasibility of such objective is proven and given by numerical analysis result. For a typical building slab, both concrete and advanced composite sandwich panels are considered. The concrete slab is treated as a special orthotropic plate to obtain more accurate result. For each panel, the deflection under the dead and live loads is compared, since both tensile and compressive strengths of the composites are far more higher than those of concrete. All types of sandwich panels considered, except one case, have self-weights less than one tenth of that of the reinforced concrete slab, with deflections less than that of the reinforced concrete slab.

Design of Composite Laminate Bicycle Wheel considering Stacking Sequence (적층각을 고려한 복합재료 라미네이트 자전거 휠의 설계)

  • The strength design for the lightweight bicycle wheel made of the Carbon/Epoxy composite laminates has been discussed in this paper. For bicycle wheel design, lightness of the wheel is important. Also, it has to satisfy the required strength under specific loading cases. Two testing methods for the bicycle wheel, i.e. vertical and complex loadings, are adopted in this study. Because the strengths of composite wheel is different in relation to the stacking sequence and the number of plies, it is important to decide an appropriate stacking sequence and number of layers for the composite wheel. From the finite element analysis results, the most stable sequence orientation and number of layers are determined. The stacking sequence $[0]_{8n}$, $[90]_{8n}$, $[0/90]_{2ns}$, $[{\pm}45]_{2ns}$, $[0/{\pm}45/90]_{ns}$ (n=1,2,3,4)are performed for finite element analysis. From results, $[0/{\pm}45/90]_{3s}$ lay-up is a good selection for the composite bicycle wheel. Also, the weakest point and layer are found in this study.

  • Owing to the high specific strength and stiffness of composite materials, they are extensively used in mechanical systems and in vehicle industries. However, most mechanical structures experience repeated load and fatigue. Therefore, it is important to perform fatigue analysis of fiber-reinforced composites. The properties of composite laminates vary depending upon the stacking sequence and stacking direction. Fatigue damage of composite laminates occurs according to the following sequence: matrix cracking, delamination, and fiber breakage. In this study, fatigue tests were performed for damage analysis. Fatigue damages, which have to be considered in fatigue analysis, are determined by using the stiffness values calculated from hysteresis loops, and the obtained fatigue damage curve is examined using Mao's equation and Abdelal's equation.

  • The structural vehicles are steel members of square or circle tube with definite shape. These members support various components and absorb impact energy to protect passengers during accidentswhen crash happen. Structural members need to be lightweight and stable. In this study, we do an impact simulation of a CFRP square member using finite element analysis program Ls-Dyna in order to predict fracture shape and energy absorb feature of CFRP member. Also, we make square member shape of CFRP and do an impact experiment. We compare the analytical and experimental results and consider the fracture shape and energy features of CFRP members.

  • The EPS has the unit weight of only 20~30kg/m3 and is used as one of the methods of reducing road embankment loads. Parts of it's applications are for backfill materials of structures like abutment, retaining wall, etc., to reduce horizontal earth pressure and for banking materials to secure the safety of settlement and bearing capacity by minimizing the stress Increment. However, the Korean Standards (KS) has not yet proposed any testing method for use of EPS as a engineering banking material. Only its testing and quality ordinance as a heat insulation material has been standardized. Therefore, in Korea, EPS is used as banking material without any systematic testing data as a civil engineering material. In this point of view, this paper deals with the engineering characteristics of EPS through many laboratory tests on strength, strain, absorption, and creep. from the results achived through tests, this paper proposes the enactment of a suitable quality testing ordinance and the criteria of unconfined design strength of EPS for use as engineering material.

  • 저항 점 용접은 1930년대에 Thomson에 의해 방법이 제안된 이후로 자동차, 전자, 항공기, 철도산업등에서 박판 금속(sheet metal)의 접합에 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 공정이다. 특히 자동차 차체와 같이 대부분 박판으로 구성되는 구조물에서는 저항 점 용접의 사용 범위가 매우 넓기 때문에 자동차 산업에서는 가장 기본적인 근본 기술 중의 하나로 인식되고 있다. 보통 자동차 한대를 생산하는데 소요되는 저항 점 용접 타점은 3000~4000개 정도로 자동차 차체 용접 공정의 대부분을 차지하고 있다. 또한 로봇과 연동된 자동화 공정으로 적용되고 있다. 최근의 자동차 차체를 구성하는 금속 재료가 자동차의 경량화, 친화경 소재의 사용자의 요구로 인해 새로운 강판이 사용된다. 자동차의 연비 향상을 위해서 다른 방법보다 자동차의 무게를 감소시키는 것이 가장 효율적이고, 쉽기 때문에 고장력 강판의 사용이 급속하게 증가하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 차제의 부식성, 내마모성 향상을 위해 도금 처리된 강판의 사용도 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 최근에 도장 공정 감소를 위해 도금 처리위에 도료 착색을 용이하게 하는 도료의 일부를 금속 표면에 처리된 강판의 개발도 진행되는 등 금속 소재의 변화가 다양하게 진행되고 있다. 이러한 새로운 강종은 기존의 AC 용접이나 DC 용접으로는 용접성 확보에 어려움을 가지고 있어, 새로운 저항 점 용접 공정의 연구 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 저항 점 용접 공정의 개선을 위해서 인버터 저항 점 용접기에서 용접 공정 중 전류를 제어하기 위한 효율적인 제어기 개발 방법과 개발된 제어기를 바탕으로 용접 중에 용접부의 품질을 예측하여, 용접 전류 및 가압력을 실시간 제어하여 안정적인 용접부의 품질을 갖질 수 있는 지능형 저항 점 용접기의 적응 제어기를 개발하는데 있다.

Study on the Thermal Radiation Performance of the Multi-functional Structure Made of the Carbon Fiber Composite Material (탄소섬유 복합재를 이용한 위성용 다기능 구조체의 방열성능 분석)

  • The design strategy of the multi-functional structure is that the electrical components and the circuits are directly put on their supporting structural panel in which the radiation shields and the thermal control functions are integrated. Applying the multi-functional structure reduces the total mass and size of the space system and makes it possible to lower launch cost. In present study the performance of thermal radiation for six types of multi-functional structure are investigated by the numerical method. The effect of the rib configuration on heat transfer for the multi-functional-structure is not important alone but is meaningful considering with the structural stiffness, difficulty of manufacturing and mass increase. In heat spreading point of view, the thickness of the outer conductive layer is important rather than the rib configuration and the trade-off study with the mass and thickness is required for optimum design.

Analytical and Experimental Study for Development of Composite Coil Springs (복합재 코일스프링 개발을 위한 수치해석 및 실험적 연구)

  • This paper shows the feasibility of using carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite materials for manufacturing automotive coil springs. For achieving weight reduction by replacing steel with composite materials, it is essential to optimize the material parameters and design variables of the coil spring. First, the shear modulus of a CFRP beam model, which has $45^{\circ}$ ply angles for maximum torsional stiffness, was calculated and compared with the test results. The diameter of the composite spring was predicted to be 17.5 mm for ensuring a spring rate equal to that when using steel material. Finally, a finite element model of the composite coil spring with $45^{\circ}$ ply angles and 17.5 mm wire diameter was constructed and analyzed for obtaining the static spring rate, which was then compared with experimental results.

A Study on the Utilization of Coal Ash as Earthwork Materials (석탄회의 토공재로서의 활용에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the possibility of the utilization of coal ash as earthwork materials is investigated. For this purpose, some laboratory experiments were carried out. The samples used in these tests are fly ash(FA), bottom ash(BA), coal ash dropped into ash pond(FA:BA=8:2), and mixed coal ash(FA:BA=5:5), which were discharged as a by-product at Yong-Yeul thermoelectric power plant, and general road filling materials. And for the deformation analysis of coal ash reclamation ground, several hyperbolic model parameters were determined by triaxial compression test. As a result of this study, coal ash has excellent engineering properties such as strength parameters comparing with general soils of the same grain size, especially in case of being used as backfill materials and reclamation materials on soft ground, and coal ash is superior to general earthwork materials in engineering properties becasuse of self hardening behaveiour, light weight property, etc.

  • Recently, building of long span bridge is increasing and cable stayed bridges have large portion in civil projects. As the spans of bridges become longer, steel cable-stayed bridges have been constructed mainly for slim structure. But in many case, pylons are constructed by concrete for the stability of structures and the economy. Concrete is greatly influenced by the long-term behavior like creep and drying shrinkage, so analysis of stress redistribution and structural change in construction is required. In this study, as a cable stayed bridge with concrete pylon, Incheon Bridge is analyzed by nonlinear FEM analysis program RCAHEST. Through this analysis, time dependent effect of concrete pylon to whole cable stayed bridge system is studied.
