Development and Application of an Artificial Intelligence Convergence Education Program Linked to School Library Reading Activities for Middle School Students (중학생을 위한 학교도서관의 독서활동 연계 인공지능 융합교육 프로그램의 개발과 적용)

  • Recently, there has been a growing demand for school libraries to take on the role of curriculum convergence and content development. This study purposed to develop a program that integrates reading activities and artificial intelligence (AI) education in a middle school library as a platform for convergence education. The program aimed to enhance creative problem-solving skills by integrating an understanding of AI concepts and principles through reading activities related to AI topics. The program, comprising 18 sessions (6 modules), was implemented with 36 first-year students at A Middle School, Gyeonggi-do, in 2022. After implementation, a paired-sample t-test revealed significant improvements in AI learning self-efficacy and creative problem-solving skills. Participants also showed positive attitudes toward class engagement and reading activities. Implications for AI convergence education in connection with school libraries were discussed.

  • 대한출판문화협회(회장 윤형두)와 한국출판연구소(이사장 김종수)는 구랍 8일 제61회 출판포럼을 개최했다. 이번 포럼은 2012년을 '독서의 해'로 선포한데 따라 이에 걸맞는 준비를 하고자 하는 취지로 준비 되었으며 이날 사회를 맡은 한국출판연구소 김종수 이사장은 "범사회적으로 책 읽는 분위기가 뿌리내리도록 하고 독서문화의 외연을 넓히는 소중한 기회로 삼아야 할 것"이며 "지난 1993년 '책의 해'를 통해 처음으로 출판포럼이 시작한 이래 횟수로는 61회째를 맞이한 만큼 출판계가 다시 한 번 심기일전하여 출판의 텃밭을 일구어 나가야 할 것"이라고 말했다. 이날 행사는 '독서문화 진흥을 위한 출판계의 과제'를 주제로 한윤옥 교수(경기대 문헌정보학과)가 주제발표를 했으며 이어진 토론 시간에는 대한출판문화협회 박익순 사무국장이 '독서의 해와 출판계의 과제', 한국출판인회의 김종길 독서진흥위원장이 '2012 독서의 해에 바란다', 책 읽는 사회 만들기 국민운동 안찬수 사무처장이 '독서의 해 추진과 출판계의 대응을 위한 제언', 문화체육관광부 도서관정책과 하재열 사무관이 '도서관과독서, 창의와 상상력 발전소'를 주제로 각각 발표와 토론을 진행했다. 이날 주제발표를 요약, 정리한다.

A Study on the Construction and Operation of Theme Collections through Book Curation: In-depth Interview with Public Librarians (북큐레이션을 통한 테마 컬렉션의 구축과 운영에 관한 연구 - 공공도서관 담당자의 심층면담을 통해 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the concept of theme collection in the library, to clarify the reality of the theme collection operation. This study was to set up methodology for constructing and operating the theme collection in the future and to provide implications for future development. For this purpose, this study conducted in-depth interviews with a total of 12 directors and librarians from four public libraries. The results of the analysis revealed that the theme collection can be built and function properly with a solid understanding of its collection, users and community, and sharing its services goals and orientations. In addition, it was found that the task of constructing a theme collection contributes to the establishment of the identity of the librarian, and it is interrelated with the various library works. Finally, a comprehensive model of current theme collections was discussed.

A Study on the Influential Factors on the Organizational Commitment of Employees Working in Libraries for the Visually Impaired (시각장애인도서관 직원들의 조직몰입에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The study has a purpose of understanding the factors that affect the oranizational commitment of the employees working in the libraries for visually impaired. To do this, the study chose personal background, emotional labor, role, job characteristics, organizational culture and organizational justice and attempted to find out how these factors affect the oranizational commitment. As a research method, mixed study method was used where quantitative analysis was complemented by qualitative analysis. For quantitative analysis, statistical analysis was conducted using the retrieved questionnaires. For qualitative analysis, the researcher had a one-on-one talk with the experts and employees who want to participate using an interview note was recomposed based on the survey responses. In the study results, emotional labor, job characteristics, organizational culture and organizational justice was proven to have influence on job engagement. To improve the job engagement, autonomy should be guaranteed by minimizing the organizational intervention to the assigned works and expanding the discretionary power. Furthermore, intensive management of the employees' emotional labor and fair process regarding the work performance is highly important.

A Study on the Relationship between Teachers' Information Need about Guidance and Perception regarding Educational Guidelines to Improve Teachers' Perception of Educational Instruction (교사들의 교육지침 인식 개선을 위한 생활지도 정보요구와 교육지침 변화에 대한 인식 간 관계 연구)

  • This study aims to present the relationship between the teachers' information needs regarding guidance and the perception of educational guidelines issued by the Office of Education. The research design was conducted based on the reviewing theoretical background studies, and questionnaires were found in in-depth semi-structured interviews in a pilot study. Gyeonggi Province is divided into four regions, which is the target of the survey. Teachers of three schools in each region were surveyed, and eventually 217 copies of the survey were used for the final analysis. The result shows that the role of school libraries in caring for teachers' information needs ultimately influences the improvement of teachers' guidance. Based on this result, the study suggests ways to improve information services provided by school libraries. In particular, the study is meaningful in that it has presented a potential service plan that can be performed by school libraries to help address teachers' information needs about guidance in schools.

A Comparative Study on the Operational Status of the Reading Marathon Competition in Public Libraries (공공도서관의 독서마라톤 대회 운영 현황 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore tasks for improving performance skills by comparing and analyzing the current status of reading marathon competitions operated in public libraries, and to provide guidelines for institutions to operating of this competition in the future. In order to achieve the research purpose, the competition status information collected in 2021 for five public libraries operating reading marathon competitions from before the COVID-19 pandemic were collected and the contents were compared and analyzed. As a result, the average period for five public libraries running a reading marathon was 10 years, and the average period for each year was 5.87 months. In addition, children had the highest rate of completion, and as compensation for completion, certificates were issued and the number of loans increased the most. However, the competition managers complained of difficulties in securing and increasing applicants and calculating the distance reached, so based on the analysis, they developed tasks to improve the performance of the reading marathon from several different solution suggestions.

A Study on the Impact of Public Library Organizational Justice on the Employee Engagement and User Orientation in Frontline Staff (공공도서관 조직공정성이 서비스접점구성원의 인게이지먼트와 이용자지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we designed and verified a research model that identifies the correlation between public library organizational justice, the engagement of service contact members, and user orientation. First, distributive justice was found to have a positive effect on engagement. Second, interaction justice was found to have a positive effect on engagement. Third, procedural justice was found to have a positive effect on user orientation. Fourth, engagement was found to have a positive effect on user orientation. As a result of structural equation model analysis, it was analyzed that engagement had a greater influence on user orientation. Service contact members who have the attitude of having organizational members take voluntary and self-sacrificing actions in library operation and are willing to be positively immersed in their work can take user-oriented actions that provide services with users as the top priority. Because the possibility is high. It has practical significance in that it suggests strategies and improvement plans that can be helpful to libraries.

A Study on the Limitation on the Right of Public Performance in the Individual Watching Cinematographic Works in Public Libraries (공공도서관 영상저작물 관내열람의 공연권 제한에 관한 연구)

  • Article 29 in the copyright law of Korea, public performance and broadcasting for non-profit purposes will be revised. The copyright agency has tried to impose copyright fees on the use of cinematographic works such as DVDs in public libraries. The paper studied that the individual watching cinematographic works in public libraries is included in the concept of public performance in the copyright law. Also, the study conducted a survey on the situation of use of cinematographic works in public libraries. As a result of the study, watching DVDs in facilities for 1~3 persons in public libraries could be included in the concept of public performance. But the main purpose of most of DVD users was for circulation or reading. The library service for individual DVD watching will therefore not affect the commercial income of the copyright holders. Finally the study suggested that if the service for the individual watching of cinematographic works in libraries is included in the concept of public performance, the copyright law needs to be revised so that the service is included in the exception to the right of public performance.

  • 지난 6월 19일 오후 4시 아시아출판문화정보센터 1층 '지혜의 숲'에서 2014 파주어린이책잔치 및 열린도서관 '지혜의 숲' 개막식이 김민웅 성공회대 교수의 사회로 열렸다. 개관식에는 이어령 문화체육관광부 초대 장관, 고은 시인을 비롯해 김언호 파주출판도시문화재단 이사장, 이기웅 파주출판도시협동조합 이사장, 고영수 대한출판문화협회 회장, 박태수 파주시 부시장, 이재정 경기도교육감 당선인 등 출판 및 교육 문화 관계자들이 대거 참가한 가운데 진행됐다.

A Study on Improvement Plan of Teacher Librarians' Placement after the Revision of the Enforcement Decree of School Libraries Promotion Act (개정 학교도서관진흥법 시행 이후 사서교사 배치 및 양성에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find a better way for placement of teacher librarians after the revision of the Enforcement Decree of School Libraries Promotion Act. To do this, the literature research is applied for reviewing the policy and current status regarding the placement of school librarians. The Ministry of Education announced its willingness to secure the number of job openings for librarian teachers through the midium and long-term plan in the 3rd School Library Promotion Basic Plan. It is analyzed that 323 new teacher librarians need to be recruited every year, after estimating the demand for recruitment of teacher librarians by 2030, considering the 3rd school library promotion basic plan. Schools in Gyeonggi Province and Daegu with no school library personnel exclusively in charge of libraries have been allocated with temporary teacher librarians, as an attempt to comply with the legal obligation to place exclusive staff for libraries, faced with practical challenges of recruiting new teacher librarians in a limited amount of time. But survey through questionnaire method shows only 69 out of 122 survey participants, which account for 56.6%, have proper teacher librarian licences. According to the analysis of teacher librarianship status, only 146 people were trained in 2019. As a result, the field demand for librarian teachers surged, but it was found that the conditions for training excellent librarian teachers have not been provided. Therefore, it is necessary to actively prepare a way to secure a certain level of qualification holders with the qualifications of excellent teacher librarians.
