This study is conducted to prove a hypothesis that Dokdo Island has "National Landscape Image," being a region with special meaning for Korean people. University students(51 Koreans and 44 foreigners) were surveyed on landscape images of Dokdo Island, and the statistical analysis of the survey responses was performed subsequently. The findings showed no substantial difference between the opinions of Korean men and women: Especially the photo of whole Dokdo was highly rated by Korean respondents as "considerably or very valuable and impressive, but also mysterious and symbolic at the same time." These are unique images of Dokdo Island, which are not found in responses to natural landscape of other national parks. Meanwhile, there were significant contrasts between the responses of Koreans and foreigners in every variables. Some landscape adjectives used as semantic differential scale demonstrate remarkable differences between Korean and foreign respondents, particularly on the photo of whole Dokdo: impressive(1.41), mysterious(1.25), symbolic (1.00), valuable(0.98), intimate(0.95), beautiful(0.93), interesting(0.85). There were substantial differences in responses between Korean and foreigners on two rock islands, which have names related with some national image: The Korean Peninsula Rock(0.57) and Independence Gate Rock(0.51). Finally, three primary factors drawn from the factor analysis were (1) national landscape image, (2) natural characteristics of Dokdo Island, and (3) spatiality of Dokdo Island.

The objective of this study was to understand the effects of soundscapes on forest landscape preference in the Baekdudaegan protected area. The study sites were selected in Jeombongsan and Sobaek National park selected within the Baekdudaegan. The landscape preference surveys were conducted by using landscape adjectives classified with Nature, Sound, Attractiveness, and Aesthetics. The comparative analyses examined the difference of preferences between only visual landscapes and visual landscapes with soundscapes. The research found out that soundscapes were associated with landscape characteristics, and positively correlated with the improvement in landscape preference. Thus, the research can infer that forest landscape assessment consider visual attributes as well as soundscape cues.

This study conducted a comparative analysis between Koreans and foreigners on how they feel of the 'Oreum' so that the data could be used to conserve and utilize 'Oreum' as a brand of Jeju, which is one of the natural and original sceneries of the island along with Halla Mountain. Four aerial photo slides were selected to be assessed among 18 overlooked views of 'Oreums' through quasi-preliminary and preliminary surveys. The assessment group was divided into native and foreigner groups. Image and preference were measured based on 7 step categorization on 26 adjectives, and factor analysis was implemented. The selected factors from factor analysis reflected that calmness was recognized as common image identification variable to natives and foreigners. However, foreigners choose 'dynamics', 'peculiarity' and 'grandeur' in order to explain the image while Koreans selected words in the order of 'attractiveness', 'grandeur', 'dynamics' and 'peculiarity'. This means Koreans identify the image of 'Oreum' as absolute beauty while foreigners see the dynamics and relative peculiarity as its attractive point. As a result of factor score, preference and multiple regression analysis, Koreans selected 'calmness', 'attractiveness' and 'dynamics' as important variables to explain preference. On the other hand, foreigners choose 'dynamics' and 'calmness' as well as 'evenness', 'peculiarity' and 'simplicity'. This represents that foreigners are highly influenced by the structural peculiarity and simplicity on the image preference.

In nature, to change the consciousness of those who wish to pursue something new, the road is turning function-oriented 'Walking Path' into purpose-oriented 'Walking Trails'. Though 'Walking Trails' is a long linear journey that leads people to see, to feel and to experience while walking on the trail, but considering on the landscape of trails when selecting routes is lacking. Landscapes, which are felt and perceived while walking on the trail, provide a purpose, and can be an important factor to improve visitor satisfaction. However, the study is insufficient in terms of landscape of trails. Therefore, it is the purpose of this study to find ways to help improving visitors' satisfaction in selecting routes, by analyzing the images and preferences of trails landscapes that are visually perceived, by analyzing the correlation between visitors' satisfaction and them. The purpose of this study is to categorize a landscape adjective list for urban landscape analysis. For this purpose, four methods are used. The first method is to survey the foreign landscape adjective lists such as Feimer's EACL & LACL, VRM suggested vocabulary, and IEA and LI's aesthetic factors, which are commonly used in domestic research. The second method is to analyze vocabulary in Korean linguistic textbook the third is to investigate Korean adjective lists from 36 domestic research. The last is to survey adjectives used to express the urban landscapes. 24 landscapes from BunDdang, GwaCheon, YakSoo and ApGuJeong were presented to 40 subjects, whose responses were collected and categorized. The frequency analysis of the adjectives and landscape factors were processed by SJTOOL, which was programmed for Korean vocabulary analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: Foreign adjective lists were mainly focused on the physical features of landscapes and they also had linguistic problems caused by the translations. Therefore, it is undesirable to use the foreign adjective list directly to analyze Korean urban landscapes. The vocabulary from the linguistic textbook has more variety, but it includes many adjectives irrelevant to the urban landscape. More types of adjectives were used in the researches(890 adjectives/295 types), compared with the result of response survey(1,406 adjectives/270 types). Because some adjectives were partly confusing, it is desirable to categorize the adjectives. The categorized adjectives could therefore be more useful and practical for urban landscape analysis.

This study compares the results of landscape image analysis using text mining techniques and factor analysis for Lotte World Tower, which is the first atypical skyscraper building in Korea, and identifies landscape images of the site to determine possibilities of use. Lotte World Tower's landscape image has been extracted from text mining analysis focusing on adjectives such as 'new', 'transformational', 'unusual', 'novelty', 'impressive', and 'unique', and phrases such as in the process of change, people's active elements(caliber, outing, project, night view), media(newspaper, blog), and climate(weather, season). As a result of the factor analysis, factors affecting the landscape image of Lotte World Tower were symbolic, aesthetic, and formative. Identification, which is a morphological feature, has characteristics of scale and visibility but it is not statistically significant in preference. Rather, the psychological factors such as the symbolism with characteristics such as poison and specialty, harmony with the characteristics of the surrounding environment, and beautiful aesthetic characteristics were an influence on the landscape image. The common results of the two research methods show that psychological characteristics such as factors that can represent and represent the city affect the landscape image more greatly than the morphological and physical characteristics such as location and location of the building. In addition, the text mining technique can identify nouns and adjectives corresponding to the images that people see and feel, and confirms the relationship between the derived keywords, so that it can focus the process of forming the landscape image and further the image of the city. It would appear to be a suitable method to complement the limitation of landscape research. This study is meaningful in that it confirms the possibility that big data can be utilized in landscape analysis, which is one research field of landscape architecture, and is significant for understanding the information of a big data base and contribute to enlarging the landscape research area.

Due to the standardized urban development since the industrial era, many urban spaces have experienced non-placeness. Recently, although interest in urban landscape, history, and cultural elements has been increasing, landscape management and control measures are being implemented mainly in large cities due to the low status of rural areas in the country. From this point of view, this study tried to lay the foundation for basic research in related fields by classifying the characteristics and types of streetscapes located near large cities, and to suggest directions that should be considered when managing streetscapes in the future. As a result of the analysis of landscape adjectives, the village felt secluded due to the low density compared to the city street overall, but it did not have a unique image of the region. Three factors were derived through factor analysis, and preference was affected in the order of aesthetic, regularity, and uniqueness. In addition, the research site was classified into three types through cluster analysis, and it was confirmed that the differences by type were due to aesthetics and naturalness. On the other hand, the uniqueness is generally low in all regions, so it seems that fundamental countermeasures are needed.

The study areas were Beoljae, Ihwaryeong, Bijoryeong, and Yuksimnyeong and 248 questionnaires were used for analysis. As a result of the recognition analysis on restoration project of ecological ridgeline, the awareness of the project was low at 2.63, the satisfaction of the project was 3.42, and necessity of the project was 4.07. In terms of the preference analysis for landscape photographs, the all preferences of four sites were improved after the project than before. In the result of the landscape image evaluation, images such as 'lifeless', 'uniform' and 'ugly' were high before the project, however, images such as 'clean', 'tidy', and 'stable' were high after the project. As a result of analyzing the change factors of image preference according to the restoration project, adjectives such as 'beautiful-ugly' and 'open-closed' influenced the preference change in common. These findings can be utilized as the base data for the planning direction for the construction of new ecological ridgeline or the landscape conservation of existing ecological ridgeline.
