  • The butt and the lap welding by friction stir welding performs with $2mm^t$ 1050 aluminum alloy sheet. This paper shows behaviors of property such as vickers hardness, yielding and ultimate stresses, and macro structures for weld zone cross section of the butt and the lap jointed specimens. It is also carried out making comparison with maximum loads, stress-strain diagrams, and deformation after the guided bending test and fracture behaviors between the butt and the lap jointed specimens. It is found that the weldability of the butt jointed specimen is better than that of the lap jointed specimen.

  • Lap joint friction stir welding(LFSW) is an relatively new solid state joining process. A6061-T6 aluminium alloy has gathered wide acceptance in the fabrication of light weight structures requiring a high strength to weight ratio and good corrosion resistance. Test methods used in this paper, lock-in thermography, a phase difference between the defect area and the healthy area indicates the qualitative location and size of the defect. In this paper, the defects detected from the thermal image of mechanical properties for weld were evaluated and compared by the lock-in infrared thermography technique.

  • This paper shows the possibility of performing Lap joint using the friction stir welding with $2mm^t$ aluminum alloy plate and the determination of tool-dimensions for FSW in milling machine. This research also is reported on obtaining the tensile-shear strength, 91.3 (MPa) and the energy absorption, 26.3 (J) for Lap jointed specimen. The optimal tool-dimensions and method for Lap joint using FSW is as follows; each diameter of shoulder and pin is $9\phi(mm) and 3\phi(mm)$, the length of pin is 3.6(mm), Pressing the shoulder of tool into original base metal is not reasonable.

  • Development of FSW for use in lap joint production would expend the number of applications that could benefit from the technique. In the study, an extensive investigation was carried out on FSW lap joints, including interface morphology and mechanical properties. Welding variables included welding speed, rotation speed and, of particular importance, lap joint a methods. Examination of metallographic cross sections and failure locations showed a critical sheet interface present in all welds. Results indicates FSW lap joints may potentially replace other joining processes like resistance spot welding and riveting.

  • Of typical welding techniques, to employ the heat for joining process is the most commonly used welding process. But there arise difficulties when this process is applied to light weight alloys such as Aluminium alloy. In this respect, Friction Stir Welding(FSW), a solid-state joining process, is the most effective welding technique with significant potential for various industrial applications. In this study, the characteristics of lapping FSW Al 5052 alloy are shown under a variety of welding parameters such as the rotation speed of FSW tool and welding velocity. Conclusively, the welding properties of lapping FSW Al 5052 were found to be dominated by the deformation of non-joining area near the welding nugget rather than other factors such as the thermal input.

  • Recently, the use of means of transportation of the lightweight aluminum to temper the trend is increasing. More efficient use of lightweight aluminum material to Friction stir welding has been widely attempted. Types of welding tools at the right screw to rotate anti-clockwise direction, when the tensile stress exerted on the location of the top plate to the left in the direction of the welding process to the installation was able to obtain high tensile strength. A5052 to the top of the left in the direction of the welding process to install and, when you installed the right under the A6061 was not easily come up to the top of the A5052. Conversely, at the bottom left to install on top of the A6061 and A5052 have been installed at the bottom of the upper area of the A6061 and A5052 intrude easily form the shape of the hill you can see that it was formed.
