  • This study aims to analyze how the media represents marriage immigrant women in the reality of Korean multicultural society. In particular, by analyzing an EBS documentary titled, 'Multicultural Fierce Conflicts between Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law', this study clarifies that this content adopted travel narrative to show conflicts between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and solution of these conflicts. The documentary apparently shows mutual understanding and cultural diversity but still keeps representing these conflicts as individual's 'trivial' problems. Under this way of representation, social and structural problem or institutional problem in reality can be covered up by the medium of travel. It makes such a conflict look like an individual's 'trivial' problem can be solved by individuals.

Methods: The sample for this study consisted of 175 married Vietnamese immigrant women in Gyeongsangnam-do. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlations, and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results: (a) sense of parenting competence was negatively correlated with acculturative stress, whereas a positive correlation was observed with spousal support; (b) spousal support mediated the relationship between acculturative stress and sense of parenting competence. The best predictors for antepartum depression were life stress, marital satisfaction, and emotional support, and they explained 43% of the variance. Conclusion: Antepartum depression in Southeast Asian immigrant brides was significantly associated with life stress as well as lack of emotional support. • Purpose: This study developed a self-report measure for easy assessing of the health literacy of Asian immigrant women in South Korea. Methods: After a literature review, focus group interviews, and content validity evaluation, 14 preliminary items were generated. These were translated into Chinese, Vietnamese, and English. Data were collected from 229 Asian immigrant women. Validity and reliability tests were conducted. Results: Factor analysis yielded final 10 items in three factors: primary functional and interactive health literacy, secondary functional and interactive health literacy, and critical health literacy, which explained 61.90% of the total variance of health literacy. In known-group comparisons, health literacy was significantly lower in recent immigrants, those with a low education level, and those with low Korean language proficiency. For convergent validity, health literacy was positively associated with health specific self-efficacy and maternal health knowledge. For criterion-related validity, health literacy was positively associated with the REALM-SF. The overall reliability coefficient (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$) of the instrument was .773. Conclusion: The Health Literacy Assessment Scale for Asian Immigrant Women (HLAS) represents a multidimensional construct which encompasses functional, interactive, and critical health literacy. This self-report HLAS can be a useful and convenient method for appraising the health literacy of Asian immigrant women.

  • This study is to suggest ways to overcome the social exclusion experienced by migrants in Korean society and achieve social integration, focusing on the fact that social exclusion continues in many fields along with the increasing number of migrants. The research results are as follows. First, the legal system related to migrants must be enacted and revised. As the number of migrants increases, various legal and institutional enactments as well as reorganization of related laws are inevitable. Immigrants should be allowed to overcome social exclusion so that their cultural uniqueness and value are recognized and preserved, and they are given the same qualifications and abilities as the residents. Second, migrants' political participation must be guaranteed. When the political participation of migrants, which is currently only open to a small part, is guaranteed, Korean society can be seen as progressing one step toward a multicultural society. Third, residents and migrants must coexist. As a premise of this, it is necessary to prepare a ground where social exclusion can be overcome so that migrants can coexist. Immigrants should be able to develop a relationship of coexistence in the reality that social exclusion is progressing in each field compared to permanent residents. In conclusion, in order for the increasing number of immigrants to settle in Korean society, social integration can be achieved only when social exclusion imposed on immigrants is overcome.
