A Study on the Iterative Solution Procedures for the Elasto-Plastic Large Deflection Analysis of Plates (판부재의 탄소성대변형 유한요소 해석문제에서의 수렴기법에 관한 고찰)

  • In this study, a usefulness of the iterative solution procedures is reviewed for the elasto-plastic large deflection analysis of imperfect plates by finite element method. Three typical solution techniques such as simple incremental(SI) method, Newton-Raphson(NR) method and modified Newton-Raphson (mNR) method are compared. It is concluded that for thin plates which are given rise to the large deflection, iteration for the convergence of the unbalance force should be performed and in this case mNR method is more useful than NR method since the computing time of the former becomes to be a half of the latter, in which the accuracy of the result remains same. For thick plates or thin plates with large initial deflection, however, the use of SI method is quite better since the unbalance force may be negligible.

Variable Step Size LMS Algorithm Using the Error Difference (오류 차이를 활용한 가변 스텝 사이즈 LMS 알고리즘)

  • In communications and signal processing area, a number of least mean square adaptive algorithms have been used because of simplicity and robustness. However the LMS algorithm is known to have slow and non-uniform convergence. Various variable step size LMS adaptive algorithms have been introduced and researched to speed up the convergence rate. A variable step size LMS algorithm using the error difference for updating the step size is proposed. Compared with other algorithms, simulation results show that the proposed LMS algorithm has a fast convergence. The theoretical performance of the proposed algorithm is also analyzed for the steady state.

Evaluation of the Cosmeceutical Activity of Apocynum lancifolium Russanov Extracts (개정향풀 추출물의 향장학적 활성 평가)

  • In this study, the functional cosmetic activity of hot-water (AW) and methanol(AM) extracts from Apocynum lancifolium Russanov are examined. In the DPPH antioxidant activity test, the AW extract showed the highest inhibition rate of 90.5% (IC50 37.717 ± 8.209 ㎍/mL) and the antioxidative activity of ABTS showed a high activity in the AW extract with an IC50 of 185.244 ± 12.602 ㎍/mL and 96.2%, respectively. In RAW264.7 macrophages, the two extracts significantly suppressed the LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO), TNF-α, IL-6 production and iNOS expression level. The MTT assay measured by the cell survival rate showed that AW and AM extracts have no toxicity. The astringent activity of the AW extract exhibited the highest astringent activity with 74.336±2.487 mg/mL. Therefore, these results suggest that A. lancifolium extracts have a health promotion potential which can be further developed as food additive, natural products for cosmetic purpose.

  • CMA (Constant Modulus Algorithm) is one of the well-known algorithms in blind acoustic channel equalization. Generally, CMA converges slowly and the speed of convergence is dependent on a step-size in the CMA procedure. Many researches have tried to speed up the convergence speed by applying a variable step-size to CMA, e.g. the orthogonal projection CMA and algebraic optimal step-size CMA. In this paper, we summarize these two algorithms, and we propose a new CMA with improved convergence performance. The improvement comes from the switching between the orthogonal projection CMA and algebraic optimal step-size CMA. In simulation results, we show the performance improvement in the time invariant channels as well as in time varying channel.

  • The Backpropagation learning algorithm is known to have slow and false convergence aroused from plateau and local minima. Many substitutes for backpropagation announced so far appear to pay some trade-off for convergence speed and stability of convergence according to parameters. Here, a new algorithm is proposed, which avoids some of those problems associated with the conventional backpropagation problems, especially with local minima, and gives relatively stable and fast convergence with low storage requirement. This is the separate learning algorithm in which the upper connections, hidden-to-output, and the lower connections, input-to-hidden, separately trained. This algorithm requires less computational work than the conventional backpropagation and other improved algorithms. It is shown in various classification problems to be relatively reliable on the overall performance.

Analysis on the Regularization Parameter in Image Restoration (영상복원에서의 정칙화 연산자 분석)

  • The Laplacian operator is usually used as a regularization operator which may be used as any differential operator in the regularization iterative restoration. In this paper, several kinds of differential operator and 1-H operator that has been used in our lab as well, as a regularization operator, were compared with each other. In the restoration of noisy motion-blurred images, 1-H operator worked better than Laplacian operator in flat region, but in the edge the Laplacian operator operated better. For noisy gaussian-blurred image, 1-H operator worked better in the edge, while in flat region the Laplacian operator resulted better. In regularization, smoothing the noise and resorting the edges should be considered at the same time, so the regions divided into the flat, the middle, and the detailed, which were processed in separate and compared their MSE. Laplacian and 1-H operator showed to be suitable as the regularization operator, while the other differential operators appeared to be diverged as iterations proceeded.

The Development of Inquiry Teaching Strategy for the Enhancement of Divergent and Convergent Thinking Skills and the Effects of Its Applications (발산하기와 수렴하기를 강화한 탐구 교수 전략의 개발 및 적용 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop teaching materials using pyramid model of divergent thinking, inverse pyramid model of convergent thinking and evaluate the effects of its applications. The teaching materials was implemented to 110 students (The experimental group is 57, The control group is 53) in middle school for about 8 months (from May to October). Results indicated that the experimental group presented statistically meaningful improvement in creative thinking skills, especially in fluency, flexibility and originality. There was no interaction effect about creative thinking skills between the teaching strategy and cognitive level, achievement, gender of those students. Also the teaching materials contributed to improve critical thinking skills, especially in making hypothesis, control of variables transformation and interpretation of data.   • 특정 플랜트내에 원하지 않는 음이나 진동신호를 능동적으로 제어하기 위해 LMS의 Filtered reference와 Filtered error 방법으로 피드포워드 적응제어 시스템을 사용할 때 오차신호의 수렴특성을 플랜트의 추정 임펄스응답의 정확도로써 나타낼 수 있는 식을 제안하고 수치 시뮬레이션과 실험으로 그 유효성에 대해 기술한다. 플랜트내 음향전달계의 추정 임펄스응답의 안정성 평가식은 이미 W. Ren과 P. R. Kumar에 의해 발표되었으나[1], 그 평가방법은 플랜트내의 실제(True) 임펄스응답을 필요로하고있어 수치 시뮬레이션에서는 가능한 방법이지만 임펄스응답의 측정이 불가능한 실제의 적응제어 시스템에 적용하는 것은 곤란하다. 따라서, 플랜트의 추정 임펄스응답을 크로스스펙트럼법(Cross-Spectrum)으로 추정하여 그 임펄스응답을 피드포워드 적응제어 시스템에 적용했을 때 안정성 여부를 평가하고, 또한 오차신호의 수렴특성을 Filtered reference와 Filtered error 방법에서 각각 확인하였다. 수치 시뮬레이션 결과와 실험 결과가 일치함을 확인하였다.

  • A comprehensive study has been made for the investigation of the convergence and stability characteristics of the LU scheme for solving the Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured meshes. For this purpose the characteristics of the LU scheme was initially studied for a scalar model equation. Then the analysis was extended to the Navier-Stokes equations. It was shown that the LU scheme has an inherent stiffness in the streamwise direction. This stiffness increases when the grid aspect ratio becomes high and the cell Reynolds number becomes small. It was also shown that the stiffness related to the grid aspect ratio can be effectively eliminated by performing proper subiteration. The results were validated for a flat-plate turbulent flow.

Comparison of the retention of the full veneer casted gold crowns with varying convergence angle, crown length and dental cements (수렴각과 치관 길이를 달리한 금속 다이상에서 치과용 시멘트 합착 후 전부주조관의 유지력 비교)

  • Purpose: The aim of this research was to establish the effect and variation in differing convergence angle and length of abutment on the retention of full veneer casted gold crown. Materials and methods: Two different length,5 mm and 10 mm in height with convergence angles of 5, 10, 15 and 25 degrees crowns were fabricated. Cementation was done using cements; zinc phosphate cement (Fleck's zinc phosphate cement), resin-modified glass ionomer cement (Vitremer) and resin cement (Panavia 21). These were tested for tensile force at the point of separation by using Instron Universal Testing Machine. Statistical analysis was done by SAS 6.04 package. Results: In all cements the mean retention decreased with significant difference on increase of convergence angle (P<.05). Increase in every 5 degree-convergence angel the retention rate decreased with resin-modified glass ionomer cement of 15.9% and resin cement of 14.8%. With zinc phosphate cement, there was largest decreasing rate of mean retention of 25.5% between convergence angles from 5 degree to 10 degree. When the crown length increased from 5 mm to 10 mm, the retention increased with the significant difference in the same convergence angle and in all types of cement used (P<.05). Conclusion: The retention was strongly dependent on geometric factors of abutment. Much care is required in choosing cements for an optimal retention in abutments with different convergence angles and crown lengths.
