  • In this thesis, we took some stalks, flowers, and leaves of the Hypericum ascyron L. which are able to propagate as mass in our wild to extract the dyeing solution, and cotton and silk were dyed using them in many different conditions. Silk was dyed darker than cotton with increasing the pH density. Silk was dyed darkest among Hypericum ascyron if pH was neutral. We found there was not a big difference between silk and cotton in the given condition considering 'Y' values vs. dyeing temperature. However cotton was dyed darker in hypericum ascyron. There was a rapid decreasing of 'Y' values after one to two hours and almost all of dyeing was completed at these times. We found there was a dyeing acceleration at the higher dyeing density and the lower 'Y' value. If the density was low, dyeing attachment was reduced by dyeing ability via the density of liquid in this plants. Silk was affected higher by mordant dyes in this plants. Fe and Cu had no effect on Hypericum ascyron.

  • This study was carried out to identify Hue, Value and Chroma (H, V/C) of silk fabric dyed with several kinds of Vegetable Dyes according to Munsell renotation system and to disclose the colour fastness of dyed silk fabric against washing and light. The Hue of dyed silk fabric which was in colour of yellow or yellow red, was differentially altered by kinds of Vegetable Dyes, the Value and Chroma (V/C) of that was uniformally lowered by treatments of mordants after dyeing. The Colour fastness to washing and light of dyed silk fabric was improved by mordanting with coppor sulfate or ferrous sulfate, as compared with unmordanting.

  • The sappan wood dyeing conditions and mordanting methods suitable for ramie as well as silk were investigated. The HVC values of dyed silk ramie fabrics were varied by the amount of sappan wood in the dyeing bath, while the optimum weight of sappan wood for the extraction of dye was around 15g/l. The K/S value of dyed silk fabric showed no significant difference in the pH range of 3.5 to 6.5. However, the K/S values of dyed ramie fabric was increased proportion to the pH value of dye bath. The K/S value of dyed silk and ramie fabrics were most increased at the highest dyeing temperature in the range of 30 to 9$0^{\circ}C$. By various mordantings, the HVC values of dyed silk and ramie fabrics were differentiated and it's color fastness could be improved.

  • Fixation rate of reactive dyes on silk fibroin showed the same tendency to absorption rate. Fixation rate of Yellow 179 and Blue 71 was quite slow and Black 5, Blue 49, Blue 4, Blue 19 and Blue 21 was relatively fast. Weight increase by MAA graft polymerization onto filk fibroin was decreased, on the whole, according to the the increase of dye fixation, but weight increase of silk fibroin dyed with Blue 71 and Blue 21 was much higher than that of silk fibroin. And weight increase of silk fibroin dyed with Yellow 179 was similar to that of silk fibroin and in case of Blue 19, weight increase was about 12%, constantly. Weight increase of silk fibroin dyed with Blue 71 and Blue 21 was higher and the others were lower than of silk fibroin. And weight increase was diminished according as the dyeing temperature rises. The color was a little changed by MAA graft polymerization.

  • The studies were performed to investigate the optimum conditions for tannic processing of silk by use Chinese Gallotannin and synthesized tannic acid, which are aimed at weighting, dyeing and physical properties of tannin treated silk. 1. It was reasonable that the concentration of tannin solution is 30 grams per liter of Chinese Gallotannin, 15 grams per liter of tannic acid for the efficient weighting of processed silk. The temperature and time for tannin treatment was optimum at 80$^{\circ}C$, 60 minutes and the acidity of tannin solution at pH 2 to 3. 2. In dyeing the tannintreated silk by Acid dye Orange II, the temperature and time was reasonable at 60$^{\circ}C$, 90 minutes to control the desorption of tannin components weighted onto silk. 3. The colour differences ($\Delta$E) of dyed silk fabric by soaping could be remarkably narrowed by tannin treatment, resulting in improving the washing fastness of tannin treated silk by two grades more than that of untreated one. 4. The light fastness of tannin treated silk could be drastically improved by reducing the dye-loss of dyed silk fabric which was coused from the Ultra-violet ray irrdiation. 5. The rubbing fastness and water repellency of tannin treated silk was at the same level with that of untreated one. However, the Drape coefficient of tannin treated silk was decreased more than that of untreated one, which is closely related with fabric softness and dressing appearence.
