  • In this study, a grid panel structure in which the woven CFRP composites were stacked in the orthogonal array was proposed and the mechanical properties were analyzed and studied. The grid parts were fabricated by cutting prepregs and laminating them. The grid panel structure was fabricated by co-curing with lower laminate plate in auto-clave process. The behavior of the proposed grid panel structure was evaluated by tests under tensile, compressive, shear, and bending loads. The effect of increasing the stiffness of the orthogonal grid structure was verified through these tests. In addition, the finite element model was constructed and compared with the test results, confirming the validity and reliability of the test and analysis.

  • An integrated multidisciplinary analysis and design system plays a critical role in the preliminary design of an aircraft. In this work a system based on the CATIA is developed for multidisciplinary computational design; aerodynamics, elasticity, and radar frequency stealth. Common data base of geometry and rectangular grids is generated and used for aerodynamic and structural analysis, while derivative triangular grids are generated for the RCS calculation. The panel method (PANAIR), FEM (NASTRAN), and PO technique are used for aerodynamic, structural, and RF stealth computations, respectively, and several additional algorithms are developed for the effective communication of the common data.

  • There are many methods to reinforce the cylindrical structure for light weight design like skin-stringer and semi-monocoque. Isogrid is one of the reinforced structures to improve buckling load. Isogrid has many advantages for complex load case, internal pressure and concentrated load.In this paper, compressive buckling test and non-linear FE analysis of the isogrid panel are described. Diameter of panel is 2.4m and thickness of plate is 11.43mm. The angle which the panel accomplish is about 70 degrees and, its height is about 660mm. Local buckling, global buckling and variation of stiffness after local buckling were observed during buckling test of the panel. MSC/MARC is used for non-linear FE analysis. When analysis, initial imperfection of panel which occurred during plastic forming is considered. The results of analysis for buckling mode and buckling load have good agreements with test.

  • Because of the high specific stiffness and strength inherent in the sandwich structure composed of facesheet that resists in-plane loads and a core that resists out-of-plane loads, it is often used for large and light-weighted structures. However, inevitably the increased flexibility allows greater deformation-based disturbances in the structures. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the structural safety. To obtain more accurate analytical results, the input disturbances must more closely simulate real load conditions; to improve accuracy, non-linear elements such as gust effects were considered. In addition, the structural safety was analyzed for the iso-grid sandwich panel structure using fluid-structure interactions. For a more realistic simulation, flow velocity fields, which consider the effects of irregular gust fluctuation, were generated and the coupled field was analyzed by mapping the pressure and displacement.

  • Whole composite structure small class (150kg) satellite, STSAT-3, was initially developed in Korea. The structure does have aluminum frames that support the structure, and it is composed of only composite sandwich panels. A number of electronic boxes and mechanical apparatus will be shielded within the compartments built up by the composite panels. This study focused on the random vibration responses of the satellite. For this objective, vibration tests and analyses have been successfully performed with respect to STM (structure and thermal model) of the satellite. Additionally, through the experiment and theoretical analyses, the both results' accuracy was verified by comparison each other.

  • This paper proposes a solar tracking system without photo-sensors. The system can be classified into four modules: Solar Tracking, MPPT, ESS, and Real-Time Monitoring. Nine solar panels, as a basic unit, are adopted with grid structures of different heights to reduce wind influence and to enable solar tracking without photo-sensors. The low-cost MCU implements MPPT method which generates PWM switching signal for boost converter. The unit of ESS consists of three-series and four-parallel lithium-ion batteries in order to enable monitoring for abnormalities in temperature and electrical characteristics of battery. Four MCUs used in the system consists of two AVR Atmega128, and two Raspberry PI, and they exchanges operation informations. Experimental results of the proposed system show the solar tracking performance, the possibility of on-site and remote monitoring and the convenience of maintenance based on IoT technology.

  • A textile and capillary tube composite panel(TCP) was developed to simultaneously retrofit the seismic performance and the energy efficiency (e.g. heating or insulation performance) of existing unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings. TCP is a light-weight mortar panel in which carbon textile reinforcements and capillary tubes are embedded. Textile reinforcements plays a role of seismic retrofit and capillary tubes that hot water circulates contribute to the energy retrofit. In this paper, the static cyclic loading tests were performed on the masonry walls with/without TCP to understand the seismic retrofit effect of TCP retrofit and the results were summarized. The results of the test showed that the TCP contributed to increase the capacity of the Shear strength and ductility of the URM walls. In addition, the deformation of the wall after cracking was substantially controlled by the carbon textile.

  • As the recent development of computing architecture and application software technology, real world simulation, which is the ultimate destination of computer simulation, is emerging as a practical issue in several research sectors. In this paper, metal plate motion in a square shock tube for small time interval was calculated using a supercomputing-based fluid-structure-combustion multi-physics simulation tool called Illinois Rocstar, developed in a US national R amp; D program at the University of Illinois. Afterwards, the simulation results were compared with those from experiments. The coupled solvers for unsteady compressible fluid dynamics and for structural analysis were based on the finite volume structured grid system and the large deformation linear elastic model, respectively. In addition, a strong correlation between calculation and experiment was shown, probably because of the predictor-corrector time-integration scheme framework. In the future, additional validation studies and code improvements for higher accuracy will be conducted to obtain a reliable open-source software research tool.
