  • Residential broadband networks (RBN) are quickly evolving from xDSL/Cable networks to FTTH services with lOOMbps bandwidth. With the high-speed Internet services, subscribers tend to use web, multimedia, game or file sharing applications. Therefore, performance of RBN is important to the quality of services for users. Typically, Internet service providers (ISPs) are providing their RBN performance results that are measured by subscribers with the dedicated measurement tools. However, they do not make their results public to people. In order to obtain the performance results measured by users, we have to induce a lot of subscribers, which will take a lot of cost and time. Monarch, that is used in this paper, could provide the 3rd party measurement method without the help of ISPs and subscribers. With the extensive experiments through Monarch, we have shown that 3rd party measurement results are not much different from those of user-initiated measurement. In addition, we have observed that bandwidth is around 8090Mbps and RTT is less than 30ms in FTTH services provided by three major Korean ISPs.

  • Virtual 3D audio methods that create 3D sound effects are researched highly for multimedia devices using 2 speakers or headphone. The most typical method to create 3D effects is a technology through use of head related transfer function (HRTF) which contains the information that sound arrives from a sound source to the ears of the listener. But it can decline some 3D effects by cone of confusion between front and back directions due to the non-individual HRTF depending on each listener. In this paper, we propose a new method to use psychoacoustic theory that creates realistic 3D audio. In order to improve 3D sound, we calculate the excitation energy of each symmetric HRTF and extract the ratio of energy of each bark range. Informal listening tests show that the proposed method improves the front-bach sound localization characteristics much better than the conventional methods.

  • In this paper, we present a novel approach to efficiently control the location of NPC(Non-playable characters) in the interactive virtual world such as game, virtual reality. To control the NPC's movement path, we first calculate the main trajectory based on the user's path, and then move the NPC based on the weight map. Our method constructs automatically a navigation mesh that provides new paths for NPC by referencing the user trajectories. Our method enables adaptive changes to the virtual world over time and provides user-preferred path weights for smartagent path planning. We have tested the usefulness of our algorithm with several example scenarios from interactive worlds such as video games, virtual reality. In practice, our framework can be applied easily to any type of navigation in an interactive world.

  • With the recent development of medical technology, the diagnosis rate of type 1 diabetes is increasing and patients are increasing. However, diabetes education content is not aligned with the interest level of children. As a result of the interviews with experts, It was found that the measures of coping with the change of blood sugar and the behavior therapy require steady and repetitive learning. Therefore, this study proposes Edutainment content which can be repeatedly Learned by 10~11year old children. For effective learning, the contents of the laboratory practice were constructed and the hybrid method was used for the repetitive learning. Usability test showed that this configuration is effective. This study is expected to contribute to the study of diabetic education content that is suitable for the children's level of understanding which will be developed easily in the future.

  • Android applications are released across various categories, including productivity apps and games, and users are exposed to various applications and even malware depending on their usage patterns. On the other hand, most analysis engines train using existing datasets and do not reflect user patterns even if periodic updates are made. Thus, the detection rate for known malware is high, while types of malware such as adware are difficult to detect. In addition, existing engines incur increased service provider costs due to the cost of server farm, and the user layer suffers from problems where availability and real-timeness are not guaranteed. To address these problems, we propose an analysis system that performs on-device malware detection through transfer learning, which requires only one-time communication with the server. In addition, The system has a complete process on the device, including decompiler, which can distribute the load of the server system. As an evaluation result, it shows 90.3% accuracy without transfer learning, while the model transferred with adware catergories shows 95.1% of accuracy, which is 4.8% higher compare to original model.

  • Recently, all the electrical parts for satellite application are required more strong against cosmic rays, because spacecraft's life time and function are depending on the their conditions. Also, a TID effect test was undertaken with units and/or subsystems which are already assembled on the PCB in past time. However, it is very hard to know and analyze that some abnormal states are appeared after launch. Moreover, it is necessary to perform a test of TID effects based on the parts level for preparing preliminary data in cosmic rays. Therefore, this paper presents a test-bed to perform a TID effect test of Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) which is a fundamental element for electronics.

  • The purpose of this research is to apply the neural networks models for the hydrologic disaggregation of the yearly pan evaporation(PE) data in Republic of Korea. The neural networks models consist of multilayer perceptron neural networks model(MLP-NNM) and support vector machine neural networks model(SVM-NNM), respectively. And, for the evaluation of the neural networks models, they are composed of training and test performances, respectively. The three types of data such as the historic, the generated, and the mixed data are used for the training performance. The only historic data, however, is used for the testing performance. The application of MLP-NNM and SVM-NNM for the hydrologic disaggregation of nonlinear time series data is evaluated from results of this research. Four kinds of the statistical index for the evaluation are suggested; CC, RMSE, E, and AARE, respectively. Homogeneity test using ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U test, furthermore, is carried out for the observed and calculated monthly PE data. We can construct the credible monthly PE data from the hydrologic disaggregation of the yearly PE data, and the available data for the evaluation of irrigation and drainage networks system can be suggested.

  • Due to light condition or shadow around camera, acquired image sequence is often degraded by intensity fluctuation. This artifact is called luminance flicker. As the luminance flicker corrupts the performance of motion estimation or object detection, it should be corrected before further processing. In this paper, we analyze the flicker generation model and propose the new algorithm for flicker reduction. The proposed algorithm considers gain and offset parameter separately, and stabilizes the luminance fluctuation based on these parameters. We show the performance of the proposed method by testing on the sequence with artificially added luminance flicker and real sequence with object motion.

  • In this paper. we design and evaluate a cooperating model that increase problem solving ability by selecting proper cooperating partners under changing situation. In this model, to decide cooperation direction and extent, we have used a payoff function and then divided the group into two parts, cooperation part and non-cooperation part. To control these reconfigured groups at group level, group intention is used as a control media instead of existing data and goal. Group intention is abstractive and comprehensive and represents collection of strategies. Group intention is changed based on resources, information, and cooperation situation on group intention hierarchy. Two layered control is possible : first constraint with group intentions(group level) and then select a strategy under the constraint. These approaches are tested and evaluated on pursuit game testbed.
