Development of Prototype Electronic Dosimeter using the Silicon PIN Diode Detector (실리콘 PIN 다이오드 검출기를 이용한 전자선량계 개발)

  • A prototype electronic dosimeter(PED) adopting a silicon PIN diode detector as a radiation detector has been developed, manufactured and test-evaluated. A radiation signal processing circuit has been electronically tested and then the radiation detection characteristics of this PED has been performance-tested by using a reference photon radiation field. As a result in a electronic performance test, radiation signals from a detector were well observed in the signal processing circuit. The radiation detection sensitivity of this PED after several test-irradiations to $^{137}Cs$ gamma radiation source appeared to be 1.85 cps/$Gy{\cdot}h^{-1}$ with 19.3% of the coefficient of variation, which satisfied the performance criteria for the active personnel radiation monitor. Further improvement of the electronic circuit and operating program will enable the PED to be used in personal monitoring purpose.

  • 열건조식 음식물쓰레기 처리기에서 발생하는 VOC의 분해효율을 향상시키기 위하여 생물여과기를 이용하여 실험하였다. 현장 생물여과기에서 배출되는 휘발성 물질은 총 50여 가지 물질이 검출되었다. 주요 악취 유발물질은 isoprene, dimethyl sulfide (DMS), dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), limonene 등으로 파악되었다. 칼럼 반응기를 이용한 휘발성 물질 분해는 20일 정도의 적응기 후 제거되었으며, 제거 효율은 90% 이상으로 나타났다.

  • We constructed a series of calibration models in the campus of Kangwon National University. A series of experiment for calibrating sonde response as well as casing effect in field measurement. Here we explained the process of construction of calibrating facility which consists of three model holes of different density and three model holes of different diameter. It was discussed the calibration equations obtained from its sonde response calibration test. A density correction chart for different separation of detector from hole wall was suggested, and verified the possibility of determining true density from measurements in cased hole.

  • To investigate the optimal conditions for biodegradation of toluene by Pseudomonas fluorescens KCTC 1767 in a batch soil-bioreactor, the effects of rpm change from 60 to 180, and temperature change from $15^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$ in a batch culture and the flow rate change from 55 mL/min to 85 mL/Min in soil-bioreactor on the biodegradation of toluene were studied. In a batch culture the optimal operating conditons were 60 rpm, and $30^{\circ}C$ at initial pH 7, In a soil-bioreactor the optimal flow rate was 55 mL/min in the flow rate of circulation. The lower flow rate of circulation may help to biodegrade toluene adsorped in soil and dissolved in underground water.

  • A series of model borehole experiments and analyses for density compensation were performed to achieve the effective density correction of gamma-gamma log obtained from PVC cased boreholes. A follow-up survey was made for clarifying the variation property of detector responses depending on casing types, the presence of borehole fluid, and the degree of separation between probe and borehole wall. A special emphasis was placed on the comparison of gamma responses obtained from above and below ground water tables. Finally, we could quantify the detector responses as a function of separation between the probe and borehole wall, construct standoff compensation charts, and the limitations of the compensation have been discussed for the environments of both above and below ground water tables.

  • 한국원자력연구원의 파이로 실험 시설인 ACPF (ACP Facility)에는 공학규모 전해환원 반응기가 설치되어 공정 대용량화를 위한 연구가 수행되고 있다 본 연구에서는 전해환원 공정의 Scale-up을 위해 기존 반응기를 개선하여 전해환원 실험을 수행한 결과를 담고 있다. 장치의 대형화 빛 원격운전성 향상을 위해 기존의 전해환원 반응기의 상부 플랜지는 보다 간단하게 정리되었으며 염 이송에 의한 고온 조건 노출 시간을 줄임과 동시에 염 재사용을 목적으로 상부 플랜지는 이중으로 설계되었다. 따라서, 반응 종료후 전극이 설치된 상부 플랜지를 들어 올림으로서 반응기를 불활성 분위기로 유지하는 동시에 전해환원 금속전환체를 회수 할 수 있도록 반응기가 제작되었다. 또한, 새로운 반응기는 용융염 내의 강제 유동을 위해 아르곤 버블링이 가능하도록 설계 제작되었다. 새로 제작 설치된 전해환원 반응기를 사용하여 산화물 분말을 혼합하여 준비한 모의 사용후핵연료를 사용하여 전해환원 실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과, 산화물이 충진된 음극의 전영역에서 고루 96% 이상의 높은 금속전환율을 얻었으며 시간에 따라 선택된 FP들의 용융염 내 거동을 측정하였다. 실리더 형태의 음극에서 Cs, Sr 등의 원소들이 용융염으로 시간에 따라 용출되는 것을 확인하였으며 동시에 반응기 재질인 Fe 등도 일부 용융염에서 검출되었다. 아르곤 버블링에 의한 강제 유동은 전압 및 전류 거동에는 큰 영향을 미치지 못하였으나 염의 휘발량을 증가시켜 영조성올 변화시키는 것으로 측정되었다. ACPF의 전해환원 실험결과를 바탕으로 반응기를 상부 기체상과 하부 액체상으로 나누어 전산모사를 수행하였다 상부 기체상은 유입되는 아르곤 기체와 발생되는 산소기체의 흐름을 모사하는 결과를 얻었으며 온도 및 산소의 분압을 계산하였다. 하부 액체상에서는 전기장을 모사하여 전류 밀도 등을 3차원으로 모사하였다.

  • 현대 산업이 점차 세분화되고 산업용 반응조, 수조, 송수관 등 시설물이 증가하고 시설물의 관리가 증가함에 따라 본 논문에서는 감마선을 이용한 결합 검출기를 개발하였다. 물질의 투과성이 좋은 감마선의 특성을 이용하여 물체의 결합을 측정을 한다. 감마선이 물체를 투과하여 수집된 데이터를 영상 신호처리를 하여 이미지로 나타냄으로서 측정을 하는 사용자가 물체의 결합의 위치를 쉽게 알 수 있도록 하였으며 측정기기를 소형화하여 이동을 편리하게 하는데 본 논문은 목적을 두고 하드웨어를 제작하였으며, 물체내부의 결함은 영상 신호처리의 시뮬레이션을 통해서 확인하였다.

Design of DOI Detector Module for PET through the Light Spread Distribution (빛 분포를 통한 양전자방출단층촬영기기의 반응 깊이 측정 검출기 모듈 개발)

  • A depth of interaction(DOI) detector module using a block scintillator and a pixellated scintillator was designed, and layer discrimination ability was calculated using DETECT2000. The block scintillator was used to improve the sensitivity and the spatial resolution was improved by measuring the DOI. The DOI was measured by analyzing the signal characteristics of each channel of the changed distribution of light. The detector module was composed to the block scintillator in the top layer and the pixellated scintillator in the bottom layer, which changes the distribution of light generated from a scintillator interacting with a gamma ray. In the flood image, the top layer was able to acquire the image at the position similar to the position of the bottom layer because the bottom layer consist of the pixellated scintillator. By using the Anger algorithm, the 16 channel signal was reduced to 4 channels to facilitate the analysis of the signal characteristics. The layer discrimination was measured using a simple algorithm and the accuracy was about 84% for each layer. When this detector module is used in preclinical PET, the spatial resolution at the outside of the field of view can be improved by measuring the DOI.

Design of a High Efficiency Neutron Detector Using a GEM (GEM을 이용한 고효율 중성자 검출기 설계)

  • The radiation detector research group at KAERI has developed a high efficiency neutron detector using a Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM). The double GEM was fabricated and operated in an Ar/Isobutane mixture. For an application to a high efficiency neutron detector, $^6Li\;or\;^{10}B$ neutron converters coated on each surface of the multi GEM foils were considered. The optimized thickness of the thin film for a neutron detection was calculated with the MCNP and SRIM. The neutron efficiency was calculated by changing the chemical components of the thin film, and the thickness of the thin film. The thermalized neutrons were measured by a GEM detector with a thin neutron converter on the drift plate.

A study on working out arc detector related regulations (아크 검출기 관련 규정 마련에 관한 연구)

  • More than 70% of the electric fire cases happen in this country are caused by arc. This paper aims to prepare measures of preventing electric fires resulted from arc by analyzing the technical standards and related regulations on the existing circuit breaker. Based on the study, we concluded that the technical and legal standards of the arc detector should be separately regulated from those of existing circuit breaker, considering the characteristics of arc detectors. Accordingly, we suggested in this paper that the arc detector related regulations should either be added to the existing circuit breaker related regulations, or to be handled separately. For effective prevention of electric fires caused by arc, it is urgently required to install arc detector and it is, therefore, appropriate to make it mandatory to install an arc detector. Under the given circumstance, it is suggested that the arc detector related regulations should be added to the existing regulations for the circuit breaker. The technical standards of arc detectors should reflect the arc judgement specification, breaking threshold of arc and the range of unnecessary signal that breaker should not react to respond.
