Cowpea mild mottle virus (CPMMV) has a wide range of hosts, such as the pea family and tomato. CPMMV is a non-reported virus in Korea, and is domestically designated as a controlled virus associated with plant quarantine. In this study, a rapid diagnostic method for the detection of CPMMV at quarantine sites was developed. For the development of a user-based system, the PCR compositions and conditions use existing methods of quarantine for the viruses. Two sets of RT-PCR and nested PCR were developed in this study that could be amplified from 579 → 298 dp and 638 → 252 bp, respectively. Furthermore, a sequence inserted positive control plasmid was developed, which is able to identify false-positives resulting from laboratory contamination. The findings of this study are important for the diagnosis of CPMMV in imported crops held in plant quarantine.

In October 2009, hunting billbug, Sphenophorus venatus vestitus Chittenden, was first found on zoysiagrass at Yongweon country club in Jinhae. The adult was 6~11mm long and dark brown to black color. The pronotum is coarsely punctate except for a "Y"-shaped area in the center and a parenthesis-like marking on each side. This pattern is characteristic of the species. This billbug feeds on warm-season grasses like zoysiagrass and Burmudagrass. As the hunting billbug is one of the plant quarantine pests in Korea, the National Plant Quarantine Service surveyed additional occurrence for neighboring golf courses and some turfgrass farms, but not found yet.

지난 11일 국내 최초로 도입 시행된 동물복지 축산 농장(산란계) 인증에 대해 12개 농장이 동물복지 축산농장으로 인증을 받았다. 동물복지 축산농장 인증제는 인증농장에서 생산되는 축산물에'동물복지 축산농장 인증마크'를 표시하게 되는 제도이다. 본 인증제도는 농가 자율적으로 신청하고 농림수산검역검사본부에서 소정의 심의를 거쳐 시행하는 것으로 동물복지에 관심이 있는 농가들이 참여할 것으로 보인다. 이번 인증심사에는 영춘면에 속한 농가가 4곳이나 선정되었다. 이들 농가중 태화산과 이화산으로 둘러싸인 영춘양계장 이운국 사장을 만나 농장 사양관리방법과 산란계산업에 대한 생각을 들어보았다.

지난 11월 5일 제 6대 가축위생방역지원본부장(이하 방역지원본부장)에 정석찬 본부장이 취임했다. 정석찬 본부장은 농촌진흥청 가축위생연구소 연구사를 시작으로 농림축산검역본부 조류질병 과장을 거쳐 최근에는 동물질병관리부장까지 역임하면서 1981년부터 31년 8개월 동안 공직자로 지내왔다. 지난 본지 편집위원(20대)으로도 활동한 경험이 있는 정석찬 본부장을 만나 앞으로 활동 계획에 대해 들어보았다.

Many industries are being severely damaged by COVID-19, a respiratory infection that has recently been prevalent around the world. In particular, for workers in the construction industry, it is impossible to work from home, and if an outbreak on a construction site is confirmed, it can lead to great damage. Accordingly, the government has drafted 「Guidelines for Response to Construction Sites for Prevention and Spread of COVID-19」. In addition, domestic and foreign research about COVID-19 in the field of construction sites is being actively conducted. However, Korea has lacked studies on the effectiveness of the countermeasures in place at construction sites, or that reflect the opinions of construction site workers. Therefore, this study conducted a survey of construction site workers by dividing the construction of the COVID-19 quarantine management system and response plan into on-site management and social management. Through the AHP/IPA analysis, it was found that among social management, 'infectious disease management system and cooperation system with related institutions' and 'reduction of working hours' are areas with high importance but low satisfaction. After that, the causes of the two items were analyzed and related countermeasures were suggested. The results of this study will be able to contribute to the improvement of the quarantine management system and response plan at construction sites, and to minimize the damage to the construction industry related to COVID-19.

충남 논산에 위치한 (주)우성양행은 동물용의약품 분야에서 탑티어에 속하는 기업이다. 모기업인 우성사료와는 축산업분야에서 동반자적 관계를 유지하면서 높은 성장도 이뤄냈다. 우성양행에서 생산관리를 총괄하는 나기선 상무이사는 "동물의약품 분야에서 매출액 기준 10위권인 우성양행은 첨가제, 의약품 쪽으로는 3위권이고, 팜세이프, 농장 소독 등 농장 청결제 분야에서는 선도를 달리고 있다"고 밝혔다. 단순히 시장점유율만 높은 것이 아니다. 철저한 제조과정 속에 6년 동안 단 한차례의 사고도 발생하지 않았고 농림축산검역본부의 GMP(동물용의약품 등 제조 검사시설 및 품질관리기준)를 준수하며 적합한 제품을 생산해 오고 있다. 동물의약품 제조분에서 시장점유율, 안전분야 모두 선두에 서 있는 우성양행이 어떠한 안전관리와 경영활동을 펼치고 있는 이야기를 들어봤다.
