A Study on Self-Expression Improvement of Children through Orff Activities (유아의 자기표현능력 증진을 위한 오르프 음악활동의 적용)

  • The objective of this study was to improve the self-expression of children through Orff activities. In this study, three (3) children from D day care center in Seoul who demonstrated withdrawn behaviors were chosen as research subjects, based on a self-expression test score of 50 points. The activities were conducted for 6 weeks, totaling fourteen (14) sessions, with each session being scheduled for forty (40) minutes. Across 14 sessions, the researcher conducted, analyzed and compared the self-expression scale of subjects, measured during the third and the last session. The researcher then qualitatively analyzed verbal and non-verbal self-expression behaviors of subjects by video recording the session. The analysis results shown by the study are as follows. First, the results of a quantitative analysis of the self-expression scale showed significant changes in self expression. Furthermore, the results of a qualitative analysis of verbal self-expression showed positive changes in self-perception and an increase in feelings of independence and activity than that of initial sessions.

The Relationship between Insomnia and Suicidal Idea Through Resilience (회복탄력성을 통한 주관적 불면의 심각도와 자살사고와의 관계)

  • Objectives : Insomnia may be one of the risk factor for suicidal ideation, but little is known about the mechanism by which sleep disturbances confer risk for suicide. The aim of this study was to investigate examine whether insomnia severity would be associated with resilience and suicidal ideation, and whether resilience would mediate the relationship between insomnia and suicidal ideation. Methods : A total of 432 community-dwelling adults(227 male, 205 female,) completed the self-report questionnaire that covered basic socio-demographic data. To assess the psychological variables, the following instruments were applied: Insomnia Severity Index(ISI), Korean Version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(K-CD-RISC), Beck Hopelessness Scale(BHOP) and Scale for Suicidal Ideation(SSI-Beck). People with an ISI score of 8 or higher were defined as insomnia. Results : Greater insomnia symptom severity was significantly associated with higher level of suicidal ideation and lower level of resilience, adjusting for hopelessness, age, sex, presence of family members living together, and household income. Additional analysis revealed that disturbance of sleep initiation and disturbance of sleep maintenance were significantly associated with suicidal ideation. Mediation analyses revealed that resilience significantly accounted for the relationship between insomnia symptom severity and suicidal ideation. Conclusions : These findings suggest that the evaluation and control of insomnia and resilience may be needed to reduce the risk of suicide.

Influence of Children's Gender and Surrounding's Variables on School Readiness : Based on Educational Level of Parents, Educational Participation of Mother, Teaching Method of Teacher and Literacy Conditions of Home and Class (유아의 성과 주변 환경 변인이 학교준비도에 미치는 영향 : 부모의 교육수준, 어머니의 학습관여, 교사의 지도방법 및 가정과 교실의 문해환경을 중심으로)

  • This thesis is to figure out the influences of children's gender, educational level of parents, educational participation of the mother, teaching method of teacher and literacy conditions of home and class on preschool children's school readiness. The objects of this study are 141 preschool children under 5 years old, 141 parents and 42 class teachers. Test for School Readiness, Measure of Mother's Educational Participation, Measure of Teacher's Teaching Method, and Measures of Literacy Condition of Home and Class are used as a studying tool. Collected materials were analyzed by Three-way ANOVA, Correlation analysis of Spearman, product-moment correlation analysis of Pearson, and phased regression analysis. The results are as follows: First, there are meaningful differences between the gender of children and mother's educational level for the school readiness. Second, except for the home's literacy condition, children's gender, educational level of parents, educational participation of mother, teaching method of teacher and literacy conditions of class show the meaningful positive correlation with the children's school readiness. Third, the adaptive zone, which is the subordinated zone, is affected by the gender of children, and the knowledge zone is influenced by the mother's educational level most. These results will be useful for the basic data that can help to promote school readiness for children's parents and teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to prove the positive effect of mind and body healing through the modified meditation method of Southern Buddhism as a systematic practice to concentrate or empty consciousness of the Buddhist temple in Dhammakaya, Thailand. To investigate the effects of the program on the participants, the experimental measurement tools in this study include the Immeasurable scale, spirituality scale, simple mental test scale, and blood pressure scale, pulse meter, thermometer, and recorder. When the measured values were compared with the corresponding t-test, there were some differences before and after the measurements based on the significance probability p <0.05. As a result, there was a significant correlation between spiritual support scale and the Immeasurable scale. In addition, the results of analyzing the data through interviews showed that the body and physiologically effective concentration was well after the meditation experience, and the intention to actively utilize this meditation method was confirmed. In this study, it was confirmed that there was a positive effect of the Samata practice method of Concentration meditation(CM), and thus the theoretical and experimental effects of intensive meditation were presented. I hope that these studies will accumulate and follow-up studies will be conducted through intensive meditation as a healing effect.

  • Consumer acceptance and preference tests for commercial milk were run with laboratory consumer panel. The results were summarized as follows: 1. According to result of the paired comparison preference test between milk K and each of 4 commercial milk tested a significant difference in the consumer preference was not recognized at 5 percent level 2. According to result of hedonic scale test for commercial milk, a significant difference on both treatment and panel member effect was not recognized at 5 percent level. 3. According to result of food action scale test for commercial milk, the frequency of 'I would drink this every opportunity I had' was the highest as 38 percent. 4. According to the rank test for the determination of the preference for milk flavor on the temperature of sample, the frequency of sampling at $20^{\circ}C$ was the highest. 5. A significant difference on the flavor of milk was recognized among 5 samples of commercial milk by both difference test and profile test as reported in the previous paper (Korean J. Food Sci. Technol. 12(3), 150 and 158(1980)), but not by rank test, preference test and hedonic scale test. This fact suggests that rank test, preference test and hedonic scale test are influenced by the difference on the preference of the panel members and on the basis of quality, etc.

The Effects of Adlerian Encouragement Program on the Interpersonal Satisfaction, Self-efficacy and Self-esteem among Elementary School Students (아들러 심리학에 기반한 격려 프로그램이 초등학생의 대인관계 만족도, 자기효능감, 자아존중감에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Adlerian Encouragement Program on the interpersonal satisfaction, self-efficacy and self-esteem among elementary school students. The program was consisted of 8 sessions: 1st session was for introducing programs and making positive nicknames, 2nd~5th sessions were for abandoning inferiority and discouraged thoughts, displaying posters of success experiences, creating merit trees, 6th~7th sessions were for self-encouragement and other people encouragement, 8th session was for closing the program. Subjects were 40 students who were the fifth grader students at I elementary school in G city. The subjects were divided into an experimental group(N=21) and a control group(N=19). All participants were asked to complete the Interpersonal Satisfaction scale(Kim, 2010), Self-efficacy scale(Han, 2003) and Self-esteem scale(Choi & Jeon, 1993). The pretest and post-test were taken in order to verify the effectiveness of the program. The data were analyzed with ANCOVA. The results are as follows: the Adlerian Encouragement Program had a significant impact on interpersonal satisfaction and self-esteem but didn't show a significant impact on self-efficacy. The study confirmed that the Adlerian Encouragement Program had a significant effect on interpersonal satisfaction and self-esteem of elementary school students, suggesting the encouragement, a key technique in Adlerian psychology, is an important educational philosophy and method for healthy development and democratic class management.

Validation of the Korean Version of Free Will and Determinism Scale (FAD-Plus) using Confirmatory Factor Analysis - The Relationship Between Belief in Free Will and Correspondence Bias - (확인적 요인분석을 통한 한국판 자유의지와 결정론 척도(FAD-Plus)의 타당화 - 자유의지에 대한 믿음과 귀인편향의 관계 -)

  • People's belief in free will is important in determining the causes and responsibilities of human behavior. Over the past decades, there has been debate about belief in free will in the fields of neuroscience, philosophy, ethics, and criminal law. The Free Will and Determinism Scale (FAD-Plus; Paulhus & Carey, 2011) is a test tool that measures the components related to the belief in an individual's free will. This study conducted a confirmatory factor analysis of 1,000 ordinary people of various age groups and socio-economic backgrounds based on previous studies that conducted an exploratory factor analysis (Study 1). The author has secured the reliability and validity of a number of measures. Furthermore, it was examined how the sub-item of the FAD-Plus scale, 'belief in free will,' was related to correspondence bias and locus of control (Study 2). As a result of analyzing a total of 83 subjects, high belief in free will had a positive correlation with punishment judgment for negative behavior and internal attribution, but there was no significant relationship in reward judgment for positive behavior. Based on the study results, it was proven that the FAD-Plus is valid for the general public as well, and the relationship between belief in free will, attribution bias, locus of control and behavior judgment was examined. The limitations of this study, policy implications, and research directions are discussed.

Validity of the Happiness-Enhancing Activities and Positive Practices Inventory(HAPPI) Scale in Physical Activities Participation in Korean Old Adults (신체활동참여 한국 노인을 위한 행복증진활동(HAPPI)척도의 구인타당도)

  • The purpose of this study is to assess construct validity and verify the concept of the Happiness-enhancing Activities and Positive Practices Inventory(HAPPI) developed by Henricksen & Stephens(2013), for Korean old adults who participating physical activities with measuring happiness-related propensity. In this study, the research model was confirmed by evidenced based on the content validity, EFA, construct validity of the latent structure analysis with CFA, reliability as internal consistency. Using self-reported questionnaire conducted among 370 participants who physical activities. Total of 344 data were selected. As a result, internal consistency α was acceptable. Evidence-based on convergent and discriminant of the CFA as GFI=.925, CFI .962, TLI .953, and RMSEA .062 appeared significantly. Model goodness-of-fit, C.R. ratio(Critical ratio: estimates/SE) and Squared Multiple Correlations(SMC), and average variance extracted(AVE) was verified with the hypothesis of the model. Therefore, HAPPI validity evidence for the model fit was confirmed. In conclusion, the HAPPI 4 factors and 16 items(Other-focused, Personal recreation and interests, Achievement, Self-Concordant Work, Spiritual and thought-related) has reliable evidence to apply for Korean old adults and applicable assessment of happiness.

The Effect of Guided Autobiography on Ego-Integrity, Depression and Life Satisfaction and the Heuristic Meaning in the Elderly (집단 자서전쓰기가 노년기 자아통합, 우울 및 생활만족도에 미치는 효과와 체험적 의의)

  • This research aims to address the effect of Guided Autobiography(GAB) on ego-integrity, depression and life-satisfaction in the elderly and to investigate psychological changes and experiences on the senior subject. 20 subjects participated weekly autobiography writing sessions in a senior academy in the S city for 13 weeks. In this research, we carried out examination on ego-integrity, depression test, and life-satisfaction survey were performed before and after the writing sessions for a quantitative analysis, which was later investigated through a 'corresponding sample T-test'. Based on the results of the above mentioned tests, the qualitative analysis was conducted through an individual sessions with 5 selected participants. The results of this research are summarized as following. First, ego-integrity showed satisfactorily meaningful difference between pre- and post-GAB writing. The participants recollected the past repent and revisited unresolved issues in their lives. The subjects were able to accept these past misdemeanors and appreciate their lives. GAB indeed helped improving ego-integrity. Second, the hypothesis that GAB writing will help decrease depression was accepted. 2-page weekly writing assignments enabled the participants think of joyful moments in their past, and showed decrease the symptoms of depression. Third, this study revealed that GAB writing improved life- satisfaction. The participants learned to express gratitude and peace in their mind. The happy feeling and optimistic thoughts enhanced their satisfaction of life in turn. In addition, it turned out that the effects of GAB were more drastic in group sessions than in individual writings. Interpersonal interactions in group sessions encouraged the exchange of positive feedback, thereby helping them reflect themselves positively.

Preliminary Study on the Standardization of Korean Version of Type D Personality Scale 14 : Internal Consistency and Construct Validity (D형 인격 척도의 표준화 예비연구 : 내적일치도 및 구성타당도)

  • Objectives : The distressed personality (type-D) pattern, consisting of negative affectivity and social inhibition, has been shown by Denollet et al. For measuring the Type D characteristics, Denollet has devised the 14 item Type D scale (DS14). In the present study, this instrument was translated into Korean. The reliability and validity of the Korean DS14 was pilot tested. Methods : Preliminary version of the total 17-item DS14 scale was translated into Korean. 372 controls that did not have any coronary heart diseases (CHD) were randomly sampled in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Preliminary Korean version was applied to controls and 14 items were finally selected to maximize reliability of the scale. We compared the distribution of type-D personality among the normal controls, hypertensive patients, and the CHD patients. Results : 7 of 10 items in social inhibition were selected and final 14-item version was made. The internal consistency of negative affectivity (0.817) and social inhibition (0.797) were high. In addition, the prevalence of type-D personality in the CHD patients group was significantly higher than normal controls. Conclusion : These findings suggest that Korean version of DS14 is a valid tool for measuring the type D characteristics. Type-D characteristics can be suggested to predict adverse prognosis in patients with CHD.
