  • In this study, the effect of window installation position in the residential building with the external insulation was numerically investigated in terms of insulation performance and heating/cooling energy consumption. For different window positions, 2-D heat transfer simulation was conducted to deduce the linear thermal transmittance, which was inputted to the dynamic energy simulation in order to analyze heating/cooling energy consumption. Simulation results showed that the linear thermal transmittance ranges from 0.05 W/mK to 0.7 W/mK, and is reduced as the window is installed near the external finish line. Indoor surface temperature and TDR analysis showed that the condensation risk is the lowest when the window is installed at the middle of the insulation and wall structure. It was also found that the window installation near the external finish can reduce the annual heating/cooling energy consumption by 12~16%, compared with the window installation near the interior finish. Although the window installation near the external finish can achieve the lowest heating/cooling energy consumption, it might lead to increased condensation risks unless additional insulation is applied. Thus, it can be concluded that the window should be installed near the insulation-wall structure junction, in consideration of the overall performance including energy consumption, condensation prevention and constructability.

  • Low solar gain glazing should be applied on windows in order to reduce the solar radiation load. In a country where a cooling and a heating load coexist throughout the year, such as in Korea, a high solar gain glazing is need to reduce the heating load, but a low solar gain glazing should be applied to reduce the cooling load. Recently, dynamic windows have been developed for which the solar shading performance switches according to the amount of solar radiation flowing into the indoor space through the glazing, and these have been used in building to solve such problems. The purpose of this research is to analyze the energy performance of the electrochromic glazing for dynamic windows that has been extensively commercialized for office buildings in Incheon and Ulsan through an energy simulation implemented in the eQUEST program.

  • Decomposition models are essential in TMY development and solar energy system design. Up until recently, only a few decomposition model related researches are implemented in Korea due to lack of measured direct normal solar irradiance. In contrast, numerous researches have been conducted in various countries, and some quasi-universal composition models have been recommended by several papers. In this research, three decomposition models - Watanabe model, Reindl-2 model and Engerer1 model - are selected and their site-fitted coefficients are developed using measured direct normal solar irradiance in Seoul. R-squared, RMSE, MBE of the site-fitted models are compared with the case of original coefficients and then each other. The comparison result shows that the Reindl-2 model with site-fitted coefficients is best suitable for Seoul. Further researches will be conducted to find the best model using more various measured data of Korean cities and site-fitting methods.

  • This study aims to suggest an energy consumption improvement plan for university buildings through an analysis of energy consumption. Upon a simulation of subject building to interpret energy consumption, it was found that 154.07kWh/$m^2$ of energy is consumpted annually. Improvement of design elements can cut down the energy consumption to 135.61kWh/$m^2$ according to an energy reduction analysis related to envelope performance improvement. Additional improvement of lights and heat exchanger can curtail annual energy consumption to 108.32kWh/$m^2$. Also, an analysis of energy consumption while increasing indoor temperature gradually showed that the two factors are in proportion. $6^{\circ}C$ higher temperature requires over twice of the current energy. Based on this survey result, performance improvement due to building management and envelope elements which influence to building cooling and heating loads can curtail building energy consumption.

  • More than 76% of the detached houses in Korea are over 20 years old. These old detached houses have poor energy efficiency. According to the 2017 Housing Census (Statistics Korea), more than 50% of low-income families live in detached houses. Therefore, the improvement of energy efficiency in old detached houses is needed from the viewpoint of energy welfare. The general method of building energy modelling for the verification of energy efficiency is based on the construction year data of "Building Design Criteria for Energy Saving" due to the cost and time involved in collecting the thermal performance data of buildings. There is poor accuracy with the deterioration of long-term aging of building materials. Also, the selection of alternatives for energy performance improvement is based on the items to be applied, not a performance improvement goal. It is difficult to calculate energy performance that reflects variations in various parameters with dynamic energy simulations. In this study, the influence of long-term aging is used to accurately predict the energy performance of old detached houses. The building energy modelling method is called ENERGY#, which is a static analysis method based on ISO13790. Energy performance is evaluated by a combination of input variables including building orientation, insulation of walls and roof, thermal performance of windows and window/wall ratio, and infiltration rate. Finally, this study provides a way to determine alternatives that meet energy performance improvement goals.

  • This study aims to prevent freezing of existing domestic buildings by developing an energy storage mortar with increased energy efficiency that can reduce the increase in carbon emissions and maintenance costs due to external energy use due to heat wires in civil engineering and buildings with embedded heat wires. I suggest. Research has focused on incorporating phase change materials (PCMs) into common cement composites to provide latent heat performance. However, concrete mixed with phase change materials shows problems such as leakage of phase change materials, decreased strength, and insufficient thermal performance. To overcome this problem, we encapsulate phase change materials using microcapsules and mix them into cement composites to minimize strength loss and leakage, and use multi-walled carbon nanotubes and silica fume to minimize the strength reduction of concrete. A heat storage cement composite was developed. When high-efficiency heat storage cement was used as a replacement for ordinary cement composite in an environment where heat wires were buried, the effect was shown to reduce energy by about 42 %, and compared to a cement composite containing only PCM, the compressive strength and bending strength were 18 % and 23 %, respectively. was improved and its effectiveness was proven.

  • As a building energy saving standard strengthened, The number of building installed external thermal insulation composite system(ETICS) using EPS insulation increased. But frequent fire accident in the buildings installed EIFS using EPS led to strengthening of building fire safety regulation. This study is for fire property of EPS ETICS reinforced with noncombustible calcium silicate-based mineral insulation as a fire spread prevention structure(FSPS). Fire test for large scale wall by ISO 13785-2 was applied and results showed EPS EIFS with FSPS got 3~8 times superior fire safety than normal EIFS by visual investigation. Temperature and heat flux measurement results, which data of upside of specimen were lower than downside, also supported fire safety of EIFS with FSPS.

  • The part of a building with the biggest energy loss is the exterior and many studies are actively conducted to reduce the energy loss on that part. However, most studies consider the window frames and insulation materials, but many studies do not discuss the concrete that takes more than 70% of the exterior. In order to minimize the energy loss of buildings, it is necessary to enhance the concrete's insulation performance and studies need to be conducted on this. Therefore, this study used a micro foam cell admixture, calcined diatomite powder, and lightweight aggregates as a part of a study to develop a type of concrete with improved insulation performance that has twice higher thermal conductivity compared to concrete. It particularly secured the porosity inside concrete to lower thermal conductivity. As a result of the experiment, the slump and air capacity showed fair results, but all mixtures containing micro foaming agent showed 14.3~35.1% lower mass per unit of volume compared to regular concrete. Compressive strength decreased slightly due to the materials used to improve the insulating performance, but it all satisfied this study's target strength(24MPa). Thermal conductivity was up to twice higher than that of regular concrete.

  • The stable fueling and water supply should be prerequisites to guarantee the operational sustainment of military command post. Meanwhile, in terms of the operational sustainment, it is verified that the current wave-guided below cutoff (WBC) system cannot satisfy the requirement of control associated with water supply and fueling within the command post. In this study, as the dielectric substance can block electromagnetic pulse (EMP), it was tried to identify the shielding effectiveness of the multi WBCs filled with water and diesel for attenuating the EMP effect using experiment based on the MIL STD 188-125-1. According to the experimental results, used water in the experiment show the shielding effectiveness from around 640 MHz frequency because of minerals contained in the water. Furthermore, it was noted that EMP attenuating strength of the WBC filled with diesel was enlarged from around 1,680 MHz frequency. Resultingly, it could be concluded that it is enough to supply stable water and diesel through the multi WBC to block EMP within the military command post for guaranteeing the military operations sustainment.
