Characteristics Analysis of Seasonal Construction Site Fall Accident using Text Mining (텍스트 마이닝을 활용한 계절별 건설현장 추락사고 특징 분석)

  • The death rate of industrial accidents per 10,000 people in Korea is two to three times higher than that of major countries. Falling accidents at the construction site happened to have caused the most deaths. Analysis of existing research and measures by national institutions showed that the industrial accident management concentrated on falling accidents was insufficient and the seasonal safety management measures were not enough. There is thus the need for research that provides detailed and enough information on falling accidents. This study, therefore, aims to overcome the limitations of existing research and safety management accident response using a methodology that provides the necessary information for the prevention of fall accidents by deriving seasonal crash characteristics of the construction site. In order to provide enough information, 387 cases of seasonal construction site falling were collected, which describes the causal relationship of accidents. Text mining using principal component analysis and cluster analysis was carried out. The analysis showed that: In the spring, snowfall and unreasonable operation of equipment including lifts were the major cause. In summer, most accidents were caused by form, insufficient safety inspection, and installation work. In autumn, weather factors such as wind and typhoon were the cause. In winter, material transportation, exterior wall work, and ignore safety precautions were the cause of the crash.

CASH FLOW FORECASTING IN CONSTRUCTION PROJECT (건설공사에서의 현금흐름 예측)

  • This research introduces the development of a project-level cash flow forecasting model in construction stage based on the planned earned value and the cost from a general contractors view on a jobsite. Most previous models have been developed to assist contractors in their pre-tendering or planning stage cash flow forecasts. The critical key to cash flow forecasting at the project level is how to build a cash-out model. The basic concept is to use moving weights of cost categories in a budget over project duration. The cost categories are classified to compile resources with almost the same time lags that are based on contracting payment conditions and credit times given by suppliers or venders. For cash-in, net planned monthly-earned values are simply transferred to the cash-in forecast, to be applied there with billing time and retention money. Validation of the model involves applying data from on-going 4 projects in progress for 12 months. Based on the results of the comparative analyses through the simulation of the proposed model and the existing models, the proposed model is more accurate, flexible and simpler than traditional models to the employee of construction jobsite who is not oriented financial knowledge.

Efficiency Analysis for RFID-based Curtain Wall of unit Type Construction (RFID 기술 적용에 따른 유닛타입 커튼월 공사의 효율성 분석)

  • Due to the following reasons, the management of curtain wall parts and material is very Important. Firstly, curtain wall work is one of the main works in High-rise building construction for it takes about $10{\sim}15%$ of the total construction cost. Secondly, the whole process of curtain wall work including manu acture, delivery, storage, installation and maintenance is very complicated and sometimes more than 30 companies involve in the process. Thus there are many control points for curtain wall units. Thirdly, there are not enough space on site for material storage and this situation is more serious for sites in urban area. The purpose of this research is to validate an information systems using RFID technology that is developed to manage the curtain wall units following the process of curtain wall work. For the validation, the cycle times of curtain wall work before and a ter the system was used. The results show that using the systems shorten the cycle time of the curtain wall work. Thus it is concluded that the system can increase the efficiency of managing curtain wall work.

A Preliminary Study on Energy Consumption Analysis in Storage Space for Exhibition Facility by using Absorption Material (조습재 사용에 따른 전시시설 수장고의 에너지 사용량 분석에 대한 기초연구)

  • As solve the shortage problems of storage space for exhibition facilities, the South Korean government is establishing plans to expand storage space for exhibition facilities. From a medium- to long-term perspective, an energy-efficient storage space for exhibition facility is needed to implement efficient state budget execution and achieve national greenhouse gas reduction goals. In this regard, this study analyzed the energy consumption of storage space for exhibition facilities according to the use of absorption materials. To this end, a case study was conducted on 12 storage spaces for exhibition facilities in South Korea. Compared to the storage space using the absorption material, the storage space without using the absorption material showed an increase in HVAC system operation time by 47.50% during summer periods and 58.85% in non-summer periods. In particular, the analysis found that in the case of storage for 'H' exhibition facility, the energy cost was reduced by 2,721,700 won/year after remodeling work using the absorption material. It is expected that the findings of this study can help the government and the person in charge from construction companies to construct energy-efficient storage space room for exhibition facilities.

  • In terms of construction work, the construction cost is lower than the importance of the construction, and since it is demolished after the completion of the construction, it is treated as a relatively small proportion compared to other construction types. Construction engineers who actually worked on the site talk about the safety of the construction work as the most important work of the various processes to ensure the quality and safety of the construction work. However, it is also true that safety management is difficult for temporary construction because various types of temporary materials are installed at various sites at the same time as construction progresses, and the main construction is carried out using them. Safety accidents in construction work are not much different even if they are carried out in temporary construction. The importance and safety of construction work cannot be neglected in view of the recent trend of large-scale construction, multi-purpose, excavation of large-scale underground spaces, and construction trends that are changing to skyscrapers. The purpose of this research is to secure the safety of Dongbar among the temporary materials used in construction work by using IT convergence technology, and to propose safety management to prevent safety accidents in the construction work.

  • After Kyoto Protocol was adopted for green gas reduction, each nations are stepping up efforts to reduce $CO_2$ of a typical green gas. Construction industry also is trying $CO_2$ reduction with the techniques of two types which are software and hardware techniques. The software technique are Passive Design considered green gas emission and the environment impact assessment by LCA. The hardware techniques are adjustment of equipment system and development of eco- friendly material. But, it is nonexistent that a study related to $CO_2$ emission considered detail process in construction industry. This study analyzed the correlation of equipment combination, $CO_2$ emission and duration by calculate $CO_2$ emission follow to equipment combination on earth-work which is the process emitted most $CO_2$ among railway bedding construction.

  • As customers are becoming increasingly important in corporate management, there is a growing demand for migration to customer-focused organizational structures. Unlike the manufacturing industry, the construction industry is non-iterative and non-standardized. As a result, a wide variety of materials, human resources, technologies and equipment must be mobilized in complex work activities to complete a structure. Consequently, surprises are bound to occur as such work activities progress. This paper intends to study a strategy that is designed to improve customer services for apartment building units. It aims primarily to focus on cost control and brand management. Housing tenants and industry experts are surveyed to collect input for issue analysis. In addition, the external circumstances and internal capabilities of major builders in Korea are analyzed, and a SWOT analysis is performed regarding market conditions related to customer service. These analysis results are utilized to develop a strategy implementation plan over different time frames, and the operational resources available for such strategy implementation are analyzed in order to forecast its performance. This research will facilitate communication between construction companies in Korea and their customers by proposing a customer service improvement strategy for apartment building units, and is expected to provide resource material for a strategic analysis of efforts to fully incorporate customer requirements

Hydration-Setting Property of Slaked Lime and Artificial Zeolite Synthesized with Top Water Sludge (정수슬러지로 합성한 인공제올라이트와 소석회의 수화응결특성)

  • On the international provision on prohibition of ocean dumping of waste, tap water sludge has been buried or recycled on th low value added product as landfill. Due to the tap water sludge having high inorganic content, differing from the sewage sludge, it is possible to use as a usable resource by suitable process. We have studied on hydro thermal processing of tap water sludge with phosphoric acid and finally synthesize a artificial zeolite having a deodorization property. To use it as a building material, it has to be solidification. This study is on the properties of artificial zeolite synthsized and solidification properties by various types of solidifier. It is showed that the slaked lime is the best on setting property and its optimum content is 30-60 weight proportion. Solid by solidified by slaked lime has low strength and excellent deodorization performance, so it is possible to use as a functional pannel as gypsum board.

  • Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) technology, which replace BAR CODE technology that has been widely utilizing in the field of the manufacturing industry for a long time, has been proven in the whole industries including national defense, transportation, and construction as well as manufacturing industry. Recently, with this trend, researches for adapting the RFID technology have been attempting continually centering on the architectural project in the construction industry. However, those researches are mainly focusing on the experimental utilization such as simple activity and material management. To solve these issues, this study demonstrated methodologies for adapting the RFID technology by the construction steps aiming to analyze cycle time of five types of construction process to the NATM method of tunneling work. Besides, the application of RFID technology in civil engineering work was verified by demonstrating the suggested methodology to actual sites. Therefore, it is expected that the suggested methodology will be utilized for predicting the progress rate and establishing of follow-up work plans, and the site applicability of the RFID technology will be expanded to the civil engineering projects.

  • Recently, an urgent issue of the global environment in the 21st century is the well-established paradigm of a sustainable and circulatory system. In the field of construction, it is important to approach sustainablity issues from a structural engineering point of view. The reusable steel structural system, which can adapt to changes in socio-economic conditions and varied demands, realized that the consumption of natural resources was minimized, the environmental load was reduced as much as possible. In order to reuse and recombinant the structural members, removable PC slab connection was introduced. This paper investigates the structural performance and serviceability by the dynamic characteristics of the steel beam to concrete slab connection.
