The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among the physical competence, subjective health status, and health promoting behavior of elderly participating in health activity program. For these purposes, we conducted a survey with 207 elderly. The findings were as follows. First, high physical strength group compared to the other groups had high subjective health status and health promoting behavior. Second, physical competence influenced positively on subjective health status. Third, physical competence influenced not significantly on health promoting behavior. Fourth, subjective health status influenced positively on health promoting behavior. These results were discussed based on previous literature and theory.

사회 환경과 생활 습관의 변화로 현대인들에게 건강챙기기는 무엇보다 우선시 되는 과제로 부각되고 있다. 장수의 개념도 바뀌고 있다. 무조건 오래 살기보다는 '건강하게 오래 살기'를 추구하는 것이다. 그러기 위해선 건강에 대한 지속적인 관심과 함께 정기적인 건강검진으로 아프기 전에 미리 건강을 체크하는 것이 중요하다. 사소한 증상이 때론 돌이킬 수 없는 질병의 신호가 될지도 모르기 때문이다. 어딘가 몸 한 구석이 아파서 병원을 찾는 경우는 물론, 정상인이라도 현재의 건강상태를 체크해 보고 싶은 마음은 누구나 한 번 이상 가져봤을 것이다. 그럴때 가장 궁금한 것은 어떤 검사를 어떻게 받는야 하는 것이다. 또 검사를 받긴 받았는데 검사결과가 낮선 의학 용어에다 수치에 있어서도 우리가 일상 생활에서 흔히 사용하는 단위로 설명되 있지 않아 난감한 경우가 많다. 이번 8월호 특집 '건강검진'에서 건강하게 오래 살기 위한 생활수칙으로서의 건강검진에 대해 자세히 알아보자.

건강도시는 1986년 초기부터 그 개념이 국내 학계에 소개되어 왔으나 1996년이 되어서 시범사업이 국내 최초로 시도 되었고, 현재는 여러 자치단체서 건강도시 프로젝트를 진행하고 있거나 준비하고 있다. 그러나 건강도시를 수행하고 있는 국내 지자체가 급증하고 추이인 반면, 건강도시의 공통적인 기준이나 지자체의 역할이 모호하여, 사업 추진시 어려움이 드러나고 있다. 중앙정부나 광역시 차원에서도 지자체를 지원하기 위안 방안 마련을 위해 현재 대한민국 건강도시의 현황과 이에 대한 적합한 지원방안이 절실한 상태이나 현재 건강도시에 대한 현황이 종합적으로 검토되고 있지 않은 상황이었다. 본 연구에서는 대한민국 건강도시를 재원과 사업을 유형별로 분석하여 정립하고, 유럽의 건강도시와 비교하여 현재 수행하고 있는 사업 분석을 통하여 건강도시 사업 추진을 지원하고 지속가능한 건강도시 발전 방안을 모색하고자 한다.

This study investigated the health outcomes of the aged male workers who retired before 2003, using the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study data. Empirical study shows that the subjective and objective health conditions of the retiree are worse than the non-retired. And the random-effect panel probit analyses got the results that the effects of retirement on health are different by the retirement reason and the subjective health conditions.

Canada has a rich history in the theory and development of the field of health promotion. Over 25 years ago, in 1974, the Canadian government produced the first government policy document that identified health promotion as a national strategy. The document, which came from the national Health Minister, was entitled A New Perspective on the Health of Canadians (Lalonde, 1974).
