The participants in this study were 167 senior nursing students who understood purpose of this study and accepted to participate in. The Pediatric Nurses' Knowledge and Attitude Survey regarding Pain (PNKAS) was used to measure knowledge toward children's pain management. Data were collected from December 15 to December 30, 2012. Results: The overall percentage of correct answer was 56%. The pain assessment scale and non-pharmacological pain intervention which senior nursing students used in most were face pain rating scale (94.6%, n=158/167) and emotional support (93.4%, n=156/167). Significant differences were found in self-efficacy scores between above-average group of knowledge score. Conclusion: This study showed that undergraduate nursing students had a lack of knowledge for children's pain management. There is a need for more detailed educational program in the area of children's pain management.

  • This research, which was conducted for dental hygienists, intended to check out what factors have an influence on their behaviors by measuring the level of self-efficacy and consciousness on the use of radiation, knowledge and attitude on radiation safety management(RSM). The subjects were 235 of the dental hygienists and this study performed a survey 8 May to 17 June, 2011. The survey results were as follows. 1. As a result of comparing the average of the self-efficacy according to the general characteristics, a statistically meaningful difference(p<0.05) was found according to health condition, protection facilities condition. 2. As a result of comparing the average of consciousness about radiation use according to the general characteristics, a statistically meaningful difference(p<0.05) was found according to medical institute type, protection facilities conditions. 3. As a result of comparing the average of the behaviors for RSM according to the general characteristics, a statistically meaningful difference(p<0.05) was found according to monthly income, medical institute type, whether or not education on radiation was conducted, the number of education, education type, and protection facilities condition. 4. As a result of analyzing what factors have an influence on the behaviors for RSM by employing the points of those behaviors as a dependent variable and self-efficacy, consciousness, knowledge and attitude as an independent variable in order to investigate those factors, it turned out that the factors which had a relatively larger influence on the point of behaviors were attitude and self-efficacy by that order(p<0.05). In conclusion, we believe that a variety of programs should be offered to provide knowledge on RSM as a prerequisite for improving the level of RSM behaviors by dental hygienists.

By analyzing the factors which have an impact upon the life quality of the elderly with depression, this study aims to provide important information which help understand them, and to find out what kind of care is necessary for their happy and satisfactory life. The study took purposive sampling and survey of 215 people among the elderly with depression who were under care of the outpatient clinics, day hospitals, and mental health clinics located in Seoul and Kyunggi Province, Korea. This study was conducted from November 10th to 20th, 2008 and the data were collected using the questionnaires of self-efficacy, social support, and quality of life scales. Using a SPSS/WIN 15.0 program, the analysis of the data showed the following results. First, among the demographic characteristics, the elderly with depression who were male, had spouse, higher education, no public assistance, shorter period of depression, and were healthy turned out to have higher self-efficacy. In terms of social support, the participants who had higher education, no public assistance, and were healthy turned out to have more social support. Further, in terms of quality of life, the variables of spouse, public assistance, period of depression, and health condition were statistically significant. Second, as a result of hierarchical regression, it appeared that the elderly with depression, who had higher self-efficacy, more social support, spouse, good health, no public assistance, and shorter period of depression, turned out to have higher quality of life. Based on the study findings, the implications of social work practice, policy, and future research were discussed.

  • Objectives : Psychiatric staffs may experience excessive work stress, burnout, and reduced job satisfaction in clinical settings. This can increase chances of diminishing their overall working efficiency or having difficulty managing their own mental health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of group mindfulness-based cognitive therapy(MBCT) on job stress, burnout, self-efficacy, resilience, and job satisfaction. Methods : Twenty eight psychiatric staffs who agreed to participate in the study were included. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure job stress, burnout, resilience, self-efficacy, and job satisfaction. To examine the effects of group MBCT, the scores were compared before and after MBCT. Results : Work stress and burnout scale scores were significantly decreased after group MBCT. Resilience, job satisfaction, and self-efficacy scale scores were significantly increased after group MBCT. Conclusions : In the current study, group MBCT for psychiatric staffs helped to reduce their work stress and burnout, and, as well, helped to improve resilience, self-efficacy, and job satisfaction. This suggests that, in mental health treatment settings, psychiatric staffs can improve their mental health through group MBCT. Improving mental health of psychiatric staff may also have a positive impact on their patients.

Three control groups were taught through the traditional lecture-based teaching-learning plans while four experimental groups were taught through the practical problem based teaching-learning lesson plans. The effects of lessons on self efficacy, ego resilience and happiness were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance. Significant positive effects on self efficacy, ego resilience and happiness were found in the experimental group of students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the differences and relationships among knowledge, attitudes, skill, self-efficacy (SE), and Job satisfaction (JS) of healthcare managers (HMs) participated in the 4 kinds of continuing education. Methods: The subjects were 152 HMs. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and partial correlation. Results: There were significant differences in knowledge according to the amount of healthcare management experience (HME) and the training program level (TPL); in the attitudes according to gender, age, and the TPL; in the skill according to the amount of HME and the TPL; and in SE according to gender and the TPL. There was no significant difference in JS according to general characteristics. There were significant positive correlations among knowledge, attitudes, skill, SE, and JS. Conclusion: The TPL was identified as a significant common variable that affects all variables apart from JS. According to these results, knowledge, attitudes, skill, and SE are considered as intrapersonal constructs, whereas JS is considered as an organizational construct. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of healthcare management, organizational strategy to enhance job satisfaction of HMs are recommended.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the difference of health behavior modification between male and female patients with cardiovascular disease; and to compare the predictors of health behavior between the male and female subjects. Methods: A comparative study design was used in the study. A total of 228 patients(male 114, female 114) with cardiovascular disease were recruited from outpatients clinics in 2 university hospitals in Korea. Data were analyzed using t-test, $X^2$, ANOVA, ANCOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression with SPSS 20.0. Results: There was significant difference of health behavior between male and female patients with cardiovascular disease (F=9.45, p=0.002). The significant predictors of health behavior among male subjects were self-efficacy, perceived barriers, perceived susceptibility, medical support and autonomous motivation, accounting for 45%; the significant predictors of health behavior among female subjects were self-efficacy, medical support and autonomous motivation, accounting for 51%. Conclusions: It is suggested to take different health promotions strategies to maintain the performance of health behaviors among male and female patients with cardiovascular diseases.

  • A descriptive correlation study was conducted to identify the factors of health promotion behaviors among adolescents. Participants were 643 students in a high school. Data were collected using a self administered questionnaire. Participants' health promotion behaviors were relatively high. Among sub-domains of health promotion behaviors, infectious diseases prevention was the highest domain and accident prevention was the lowest domain. Participants' smoking, self-efficacy, and social support were statistically significant factors to explain their health promotion behaviors and these variables accounted for 38.0% variance of health promotion behaviors among high school students. Among the variables that were statistically significant, social support was the most explanatory. Conclusions: Accident prevention education should be strengthened in health promotion program for adolescents. More attention is needed for health promotion behaviors among smoking group adolescents. Moreover, we confirmed the importance of social support from school, family and community to improve health promotion behaviors among adolescents.
