An Empirical Study on the Characteristics of Policyholder and Contract Affecting a Lapse of Voluntarily Insured Person in National Pension (국민연금 임의가입 해약행동에 영향을 미치는 계약자 및 계약특성에 관한 실증 연구)

  • This paper analyses the impacts of the characteristics of policyholder and contract on the lapse of Voluntarily Insured Person in National Pension, using the recent lapse data from National Pension Service. The logistic regression model is used in examining lapse odds with several independent variables. The result demonstrates several hypotheses of the lapse behaviors. First, the lapse odds of men is lower than that of women. Second, the effect of age on lapse odds shows concave shave with the peak at 37. Third, insured period has a negative effect on lapse odds in entrants sample. Fourth, standard monthly income has little effect on lapse in either sample. Fifth, the lapse odds decreases as the expected benefit ratio increases. Sixth, 2013 pension bill resulted in the sharp increase of lapse odds and the effect was greater for entrants. Last but not least, spatial environment such as residence also affects the lapse behavior.

Regional Differentials in Elderly Suicide Rate: The Focusing on Effects of Family Instability, 1995-2005 (노인자살률의 지역별 편차: 가족불안정의 영향을 중심으로, 1995-2005)

  • The main purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the family instability on the elderly suicide and to examine the change over time. An analytical model of causal structure was set up with residence, family instability and socioeconomic level as explanation variables for this study. The cause of death statistics and micro-data from the vital statistics for 1995, 2000 and 2005 were used. Family instability was measured through divorce, and the rate of elderly(male and female) suicide as well as the suicide rate of the elderly and those in their 20-50's was used for this analysis to examine the effect of divorce. This study hypothesized about family instability and elderly suicide through a literature review. This paper presents maps of the suicide rate by using GIS, and then ANOVA and regression analysis are carried out to verify a difference in the elderly suicide rate affected by residence and divorce. Divorce rate appears in most areas with a high level centering around metropolises except the central inland area. The rate of elderly suicide which stayed in only specific regions with a high level has increased as time went by, and the graph leveled high in most regions except the southwestern coast. In addition, the elderly suicide rate was increased rapidly in rural areas for the most recent 10 years. This shows the seriousness of problems of the aged in rural areas. Through the periods of economic crisis, a sudden increase in divorce causes family instability, which increase the suicide rate increasing. Divorce affects the elderly suicide rate and the 20-50s' suicide rate in the same way, and the stronger effect goes to the elderly rather than those in their 20-50s'. Regarding elderly suicide, the divorce has a different effect by gender, affecting males more than females. With these facts, we can draw the conclusion that family instability has the most significant effect on elderly males' suicide.

Suggestions on the Types of the Distribution of Gardens for the Overseas Establishment of Traditional Korean Gardens - Oriented the Garden which is Applicable to the Open Space - (한국전통정원 해외조성을 위한 정원보급 유형 제안 - 공공 공간에 적용될 정원을 대상으로 -)

  • This study aims to establish the identity of traditional Korean gardens and develop a universal way for overseas Koreans and foreigners to have an appropriate understanding of traditional Korean gardens, as part of efforts to distribute and promote the overseas establishment of traditional Korean gardens. The focus of this study is on developing planning and design guidelines to ensure that traditional Korean gardens have individuality when they are established overseas and on establishing directional rules for planners. Although traditional Korean gardens may vary in form according to their purposes and spatial scales, the most important thing is that they should incorporate emotions that are well-matched with Korean landscapes and that their design language should be easily recognizable and understandable to everyone. The basic spatial types of traditional Korean gardens for overseas establishment, which are presented in this study, include the exhibition(fair) type, the garden type and the park type. These basic types serve as prototypes that correspond to the purposes of the gardens. In consideration of the spatial scale, the exhibition(fair) type is set as the minimum unit for composition, and suggested basic facilities include trees, a well, a pond and an island in the pond, flower beds and fences. The results of this study have significance as basic information for planning and designing traditional Korean gardens for overseas establishment.

A Study on Determinants for Apartment Remodeling in Seoul Metropolitan Area (아파트 리모델링을 위한 의사결정 요인에 관한 연구 - 서울 및 경기 수도권을 중심으로 -)

  • If aging apartments are left unimproved through remodeling, the city will be eventually slum. As the government recognizes remodeling as an alternative to reconstruction, the law has been revised mainly to increase the housing area, increase the number of house and allow the vertical extension for making remodeling costs. However, the remodeling is still not activated yet in the market. Therefore, this study analyzes the decision factors of apartment remodeling in Seoul metropolitan area based on Heckman two-stage analysis considering sampling error. Research findings indicate that the decision for remodeling is determined by the characteristics of the household, housing, and time-lapse variables. And also the number of household members, net assets, housing satisfaction, the 11-20, 21-30, and more than 30 years of building are identified as the significant variables as a result of remodeling choice probability analysis. It is noteworthy that the significant variables from then remodeling cost analysis are net assets, area, more than 30 years of building, and unit housing price. It is also notable that the policy, which extend the housing area to cover remodeling cost, are not actually effective to activate the remodeling, and the age in the case of elderly people in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do who are expected to have high net assets and income is not significant variables. This study is expected to provide more objective and reliable implication to the policy makers, the home owner and the investors on the decision making process related to the remodeling project.

Vitalization of Ecological, Scenic, Participative aspects of Urban Agriculture - Focusing on Population Characteristics and Individual Recognitions - (생태, 경관, 참여 측면의 도시농업 활성화 방안 모색 - 인구집단 특성과 개인의 주관적 인식 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the experiences and subjective opinions of urban agriculture in order to explore ways to vitalize urban agriculture. More specifically, we divides environmental value into three categories of ecology, landscape, and participation, and defines a function of urban agriculture to improve environmental values related to the three categories mentioned above. The main results of the empirical analysis using the survey data are summarized as follows. First, the probability of gathering information about urban agriculture is higher in metropolitan cities than small cities, and the larger the residence size, the higher the probability of actual urban agriculture participation. Second, the positive response rate was high for the three categories of urban agriculture, while the negative response rate was high for the surrounding environment. The implications derived from the analysis are as follows. First, the opposite results of experiences of urban agriculture suggests that local governments should further promote urban agriculture-based investment policies. In addition, these policies need to be preceded by analysis of the characteristics of population groups in the region Also, it is necessary to improve the environment through urban agriculture.
