  • The Talbot effect of an elongated circular (EC) grating composed of a line grating and two semicircular gratings with well matched pitches is experimentally presented. As the relative positions between the fixed EC grating and the moving Talbot image of another EC grating or a self Talbot image are one-dimensionally deformed, we can visually observe moire fringes generated by their superposition. Two examples of their applications, that is, the measurement of the wedged angle of a wedged prism and of the fine rotational angle of a mirror are described.cribed.

  • Quantum ghost imaging uses quantum mechanically entangled photons to form an image of an object. The quantum ghost image is also obtained by means of classical coincidence measurements with a classically correlated light source[1,2]. In this work we performed classical coincidence imaging experiments with classically correlated beams in their direction of propagation. We observed the ghost interference patterns which were usually made by quantum mechanically entangled states and we also analyze in detail the mechanism of the ghost imaging with classically correlated lights. We made? the classically correlated source with an Ar laser and controlled the direction of the light by a mirror? mounted on a small speaker.

  • This study investigated whether contexts could influence the speed of mental rotation. Experiment 1 investigated whether the angle of neighboring letters influenced the recognition of the target letter. Reaction time of target recognition increased linearly, as angular differences between the angle of the target letter and that of neighboring letters increased. Moreover, this trend was more pronounced when the target and neighboring letters made a word as compared to when they did not. Experiment 2 examined the effects of practice difficulty on mental rotation. Reaction time again increased linearly with the degree of angular rotation. However, there were no significant differences between the easy and the difficult conditions. These results suggest that contextual information is important in mental rotation.

  • For detailed characterization of scattering losses occurring in VCSEL's distributed Bragg reflectors, we performed scattering experiment and obtained the information about surface roughness through the analysis of a modified transmission matrix method. The various wafers grown for VCSELs were used for the scattering experiment. The fractal surface assumption and extrapolation is used to estimate the scattered intensity near specular angle. The modified transmission matrix method employed in the analysis considers the scattering loss at each interface and calculates the reflectivity efficiently and easily. As a result, the surface roughness ranges from $4{\AA}$ to $10{\AA}$ The reduction of reflectivity due to the scattering amounts to 0.26% in case of $10{\AA}$ roughness.

  • The magnetic thin films can be prepared without vacuum process and under the low temperature ( < $100^{\circ}C$) by ferrite plating. We have performed ferrite plating of $Fe_{3-x}Mn_{x}O_4(x=0.0~0.023)$ films on glass plate at $80^{\circ}C$. We got the film $9000\AA$ in thickness, having a mirror-like luster. The composition parameter, x, in the $Fe_{3-x}Mn_{x}O_4$ films is much smaller then the corresponding on, x', in the reaction solution(x/x'=O.04). The saturation magnetization($M_{s}$) of $Fe_{3}O_{4}$ ferrite film as measured by a VSM was $M_{s}$=480 emu/cc which agrees with $Fe_{3}O_{4}$ bulk samples.

  • We propose a method for simultaneously measuring the front and back surface profiles of transparent optical components. The proposed method combines dual-wavelength transmission deflectometry with liquids to record distorted phases at different wavelengths, and then numerically reconstructs the three-dimensional phase information to image the front and back surfaces of the lens. We propose a theoretical model to determine the surface information, and a bifocal lens is experimentally investigated. Unlike conventional transmission deflectometry, our proposed method supports direct observation of the front and back surface profiles of the optical elements.

  • In this study, the experiments for surface enhancement of silver mirror substrates were done, where we checked the characteristics of silver surface made by Tollen's and ${\gamma}$- irradiation method. The surface enhancement of Indigo carmine was analyzed by silver mirror and silver sol surfaces. The assignments of the vibrational bands shown in SERS spectra are given based on both literature and the semi-empirical calculations at the PM3 methods. We deduced that the adsorption orientation of Indigo carmine was little tilted perpendicular to the silver surfaces by using of the surface selection rules.

  • We propose a novel scheme to suppress the multiple-access interference(MAI) in coherent optical CDMA systems. This is based on a differential detection using the dual-control NOLM. For an experimental demonstration, two encoded channels we constructed and decoded. These decoded signals are sent to the dual-control NOLM and a high autocorrelation peak with suppressed MAI at the output of the NOLM is observed. Signal-to-interference ratio is improved by 7 ㏈.

  • This paper presents the concept of "interactive teleprompter", which provides the user with interaction with oneself or other users for live television broadcasts or smart mirrors. In such interactive applications, eye contacts between the user and the regenerated image or between the user and other persons are important in handling psychological processes or non-verbal communications. Unfortunately, it is not straightforward to address the eye contact issues with conventional combination of normal display and video camera. To address this problem, we propose an "interactive" teleprompter enhanced from conventional teleprompter devices. Our interactive teleprompter can recognize the user's gestures by applying infra-red (IR) depth sensor. This paper also presents test results for a beam splitter which plays a critical role for teleprompter and is designed to handle both visual light for RGB camera and IR for Depth sensor effectively.
