  • To restore reclaimed land, it needs to be supplemented with organic matter; this is especially true for Korea, where organic matter constitutes only one-tenth of conventional agricultural soils. The giant Miscanthus, a perennial grass known for its extensive biomass, shows signs of being an excellent source of organic matter for restoring reclaimed land. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to (i) evaluate the feasibility of using the giant miscanthus as an organic resource within the context of re-using reclaimed land for agricultural purposes (i.e., potato cultivation), and (ii) determine the optimum fertilization rate for the potatoes while the giant miscanthus is being used as an organic resource. Our results show that after 180 days, giant miscanthus lost 23-47% of its original dry weight, with the extent of the loss dependent on soil salinity. Nutrient concentrations (Mg2+, Na+) continued to increase until the end of the study period. In contrast, potassium (K+) and the ratio of carbon to nitrogen (C/N) decreased until the end of the study period. Specifically, after 180 days, low salinity topsoil treatments had the lowest C/N ratio. In the first year, 150 % of standard N rates were required for the potatoes to achieve maximum productivity; however in the 2nd year, standard rates were sufficient to achieve maximum productivity. Overall, this implies that even though the application of giant miscanthus did eventually improve soil quality, increasing crop yields, N fertilization is still necessary for the best outcomes.

  • In the telecommunications service industry, until now, it has been possible for Network Operators (NOs) to secure a competitive advantage to increase subscribers and profits through network investment. However, amid a big change to digital economy, network investment fails to lead to increase profits. These days platform companies without holing network infrastructure have a more competitive advantage and take more profits. This makes NOs gradually lose interest in network investment. The purpose of this paper is to find policy measures to promote network investment in digital economy. Specifically, we identify the factors influencing the network investment and promising policy measures energizing the investment, and then analyze their priorities and derive policy implications through Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP). The results of this paper show that market competition is more preferred to public intervention in promoting network investment. However, in order to guarantee and expand the universal access to network, it is necessary to consider expanding the role of the public, focusing on non-economic areas.

  • Recently, in the face of successive and unexpected global economic risks, ESG(Environmental, Social, and Governance) management has risen as an essential survival strategy for businesses. Particularly, the supply chain disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic have added to the uncertainty of risks, heightening the importance of ESG management in the distribution industry. In this context, the role of blockchain technology in strengthening and managing the connection between the distribution industry and ESG management has become increasingly significant. While there have been extensive proposals for business models that integrate blockchain technology into distribution, few studies have specifically focused on the feasibility and effectiveness of applying blockchain to ESG management in this field. Therefore, this study analyzed the relationship between blockchain and ESG management in the distribution industry by employing association analysis, a text mining technique, on Korean academic research. Through this, the study confirmed the possibility of implementing blockchain in the distribution industry's ESG management and presented keywords to guide future research directions. The findings obtained from this study are expected to be utilized as foundational research for future studies in constructing blockchain-based business models for ESG management in the distribution industry.

  • In recent years, excessive emissions of carbon dioxide(CO2) have become the cause of global climate change. Consequently, there has been significant research activity aimed at both removing and utilizing CO2. This study assesses the potential utilization of railway tie concrete waste, generated from railway infrastructure, as a CO2 absorption material and investigates the physicochemical properties before and after CO2 absorption to understand the CO2 removal mechanisms. Railway tie concrete waste primarily consists of Si(26.60 %) and contains 9.82 % of Ca. Compared to samples of Cement and Normal concrete waste, it demonstrated superior potential for use as a CO2 absorption material, with approximately 98 % of the Ca content participating in CO2 absorption reactions. Through Thermogravimetric Analysis(TGA) and X-ray Diffraction(XRD) analysis, it was confirmed that the carbonate reaction, where the Ca in railway tie concrete waste converts into CaCO3 through reaction with CO2 gas, is the primary mechanism for CO2 removal. Furthermore, Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) analysis revealed the formation of numerous CaCO3 particles with sizes less than 0.1 ㎛ after the CO2 absorption reaction. This transformation of large internal voids in the CO2 absorption material into mesopores resulted in an increase in the specific surface area of the material.

  • This study aimed to explore the potential use of artificial intelligence in science education for gifted students by analyzing the structure of abstracts written by students at a gifted science academy and comparing the performance of various elements extracted using AI. The study involved an analysis of 263 graduation theses from S Science High School over five years (2017-2021), focusing on the frequency and types of background, objectives, methods, results, and discussions included in their abstracts. This was followed by an evaluation of their accuracy using AI classification methods with fine-tuning and prompts. The results revealed that the frequency of elements in the abstracts written by gifted students followed the order of objectives, methods, results, background, and discussions. However, only 57.4% of the abstracts contained all the essential elements, such as objectives, methods, and results. Among these elements, fine-tuned AI classification showed the highest accuracy, with background, objectives, and results demonstrating relatively high performance, while methods and discussions were often inaccurately classified. These findings suggest the need for a more effective use of AI, through providing a better distribution of elements or appropriate datasets for training. Educational implications of these findings were also discussed.

  • Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is main subtype of primary thyroid lymphoma and can be histologically transformed from a low-grade B-cell lymphoma. The characteristics and treatment guidelines of these particular DLBCL have not been fully established. The mainstay of treatment of primary thyroid DLBCL is multimodality treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Meanwhile, surgery can be considered only for diagnosis or alleviation of airway compressive symptoms. A 57-year-old female visited our outpatient clinic for recently enlarged long-held anterior neck mass. A thyroid mass compressing the airway and esophagus was identified on imaging, which was diagnosed as MALT lymphoma by excisional biopsy. After staging, the patient underwent total thyroidectomy with regional lymph node dissection for treatment of stage IIE MALT lymphoma and relieving airway compromise symptoms. The final diagnosis was DLBCL transformed from MALT Lymphoma, and chemotherapy was additionally performed. We report this rare experience with a review of literature.

  • With the rapid development in network, graphic technology, and digital technology, content industry is emerging as an important industry for new cultural development and economic development. The development in digital content technology has remarkably expanded the generation and distribution of contents, thereby creating new value and extending into a large distribution market. However, the ease of distribution and duplication, which characterizes digital technology, has increased the circulation of illegal contents due to illegal copying, theft, and alteration. The damage caused by this illegal content is severe. Currently, a copyright protection system targeting online sites is available. By contrast, no system has been established for offline companies that sell offline genuine content, which compete with online companies. The demand for content of overseas tourists is increasing due to the Korean wave craze. Nevertheless, many offline content providers have lost competitiveness due to illegal content distribution with online companies. In this study, we analyzed the case and status of similar copyright certification systems in Korea and overseas through previous research and studied a system to certify the offline genuine contents business. In addition to the case analysis, we focused on interviews obtained through in-depth interviews with the copyright stakeholders. We also developed a certification framework by establishing the certification domain, certification direction, and incentive of the certification system for offline businesses with genuine content. Selected certification direction is ethical, open, inward, store, and rigid (post evaluation). This study aimed to increase awareness among consumers about the use of genuine content and establish a transparent trading order in a healthy content market.

  • Recently, major advanced countries are fostering megacities through policy for reasons such as solving population problems, political and economic issues, and strengthening national competitiveness. The trend of change is accelerating. In Korea, following Seoul and Gyeonggi, mega city policies are being promoted in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Gwangju and Jeonnam, and Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong and North Chungcheong areas. Due to this urbanization phenomenon, military experts predict that the future battlefield environment will be space or a large city (mega city). From this perspective, Korea will not be able to effectively respond to the threats facing megacities if it does not prepare in advance. Therefore, underground facility operation capabilities optimized for the huge scale of the mega city and the characteristics of the underground operational environment are required. Against this background, the characteristics of the underground operational environment of mega cities and cases of preparation for underground facility operations in advanced military countries such as the United States and Israel were analyzed. Based on this, the capabilities required for underground facility operations suitable for the underground operational environment within Korean megacities are developed from an idea perspective to military organization and combat system, securing special equipment and materials to ensure combatant survival, developing small unit combat techniques, and establishing a training system. It was presented with priority given to.

  • Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a malignant tumor of mesenchymal origin that rarely occurs in the urinary tract, particularly in the urinary bladder. Unlike urothelial carcinoma, which accounts for most bladder cancers, it occurs in the submucosal portion of the bladder wall and consists of the lamina propria, muscularis propria, and adventitia. It is presumed to originate from poorly differentiated pluripotent mesenchymal cells in which fibroblasts and histiocytes are partially differentiated. Radiologically, it is known as the "non-papillary tumor" and is commonly diagnosed as a large mass without necrosis, which shows invasion beyond the muscularis propia. Although the prognosis of this rare malignancy depends on pathological parameters, it generally has a poor prognosis with high local tumor recurrence. Here, we present a case of primary MFH in the urinary bladder with clinical symptoms of lower abdominal pain without gross hematuria that recurred rapidly and showed an aggressive disease course.
