A Study on Hanok Village and Modern Hanok Model Developement(focused on the Case study of Jeonnam) (한옥마을과 개량한옥 모델개발에 관한 연구(전라남도 사례를 중심으로))

  • Jeonam aims to cultivate Hanok Village as a lodging resource for tourism industry in rural areas. For the purpose, it invited eight models of the Hanok Village publicly and selected our model as the best. This study is to introduce the concepts and characteristics of the village, centering on the model developed by our research team and awarded by the local government. We develop and suggest eleven types of improved-type Hanok model that is to be distributed to each city and county. We compose the space which reflects needs of residents for modern living. And we focus on preservation of decorative beauty to make it a resource of tourism by creating beautiful view of Hanok and reduction of financial burden to activate its distribution. The Hanok developed in this study has a significant meaning as improved Hanok that can be suggested as a new model of rural area housing project.

  • The Study aims at carrying out basic research on the future housing culture plan by the aging and low fertility phenomenon which is the most serious problem that Korean society faces today. In the future, the housing culture will be transformed into a 'convergence housing complex's residential culture' that can be coexisted with households with various members, rather than a housing type represented by apartments today, due to the phenomenon of nuclear family and the increase of one resident. In this regard, this study is a basic study on the housing complex culture of Korea. It is not that the hosing complex culture has been imported from the western society today, but the Korean traditional housing complex's culture proposed by Korean first developer Segwon Jeong has already existed in Korea urban and architectural perspective. In the early 20th century, Segwon's improved Hanok planned to complement the disadvantages of the existing hanok and the modernization of hanok such as the standardization of hanok, moreover the most important point is the beginning of the Korean style housing complex by modernization of the inner space of hanok. It is expected that this study for Segwon's housing complex of improved hanok will provide important basic data for the Korean-style convergence residential culture plan needed for our society in the future.

Dialectical Interpretation of Hanok Village in Ikseon-dong, Seoul and Its Implications for Gentrification (익선동 한옥거리의 변증법적 공간 해석과 젠트리피케이션의 시사점 모색)

  • This research primarily aims to analyze several implications of a deep-seated cultural yearning for traditional heritage and gentrification through exploring the recently increasing interest in Hanok, the traditional housing in urban areas of Korea. We tend to consider gentrification as the impetuous and massive change of urban space drawn from high developmental pressure. However, this kind of understanding of gentrification makes us ignore the dialectical process and complexities of mutual interactions of various subjects in urban space. By exploring the renovation of Hanok housings and the Hanok preservation area designated by the Seoul metropolitan government, this study investigates how the varying degrees of urban subjects' perspectives and practices impact gentrification in the way of plural and dialectical process. Also, it discusses what implications urban change could have by preserving traditional architectures for cultural place-making in urban space.

A study on the Compressive Strength of the Improved Skin-timber (개량 스킨팀버의 압축 강도에 관한 연구)

  • As compared with existing center-boring timber, skin timber which be hollowed out of its considerable inner parts has some merits as like short drying time, less developed checks during drying, a advantage of lower MC (8~%), more easy injection of chemicals, a possibility of using as a lighter structural heavy timber including Hanok and heavy timber construction, a possibility for the various living necessaries and furniture materials. However, development of hybrid skin timber is required for using as a value-added materials and giving a confidence for the structural safety of skin timber to general user. Thus, improved pine skin timber (IPST) and improved larch skin timber (ILST) were manufactured using the lighter steel plate possible. And compressive capacity of improved skin timber was analyzed. From the results of this study, the following conclusions have been made: 1. Both of IPST and ILST can give a uniformity of material capacity compared with non-treated skin timber. 2. Both IPST and ILST, there was not statistical significancy among the thickness of steel plate. Therefore, it concluded that it was not necessary to use thicker steel plate. 3. There was also not statistical significancy between IPSR and ILST, so it need not to be selective about the species of improved skin timber. 4. IPST showed various failure types, but most failure types of ILST is a splitting type.

  • This Study is, under the Situation that the Germ of the Autogenetic Capitalism were Broken by the Imported Force, and were Transplanted the Western Capitalism by force, and go through Imperialized Procedure, the Resaerch how the Modernizing of our Capitalistic Constructions were settled down, how Developed the Tradition of Native Architectural Technologies by those technocrafts, and What Came out the Architectural Productive Character in those Housings. The Conclusions of this Study are as Follows. First, Improvemental Tradition Housing Constructions by the Native Capital were Hard Tasks, under the Situation that Japanese Imperial Constructions have Monopolized the Whole Korean Constructions and it has been Prosperous. Second, Improvemental Tradition Housing Constructions by the Native Capital Imported Modernized Capital Management System, It, after that, Influenced our Constructions Seriously. Third, It is a Desiable Fact that Acceded Traditional Style, Provided the Small-middle Class Housing for the Common People on those Demand. Fourth, It is a Point that Contribute the Mooing Problem of Korea. Fifth, It is that Supply the Low-class Housing.

Effect of Traditional and Improved Kochujang Koji on the Quality Improvement of Traditional Kochujang (전통(傳統)고추장의 품질개량(品質改良)에 있어서 재래식(在來式) 및 개량식(改良式) 고추장 메주의 효과(效果))

  • In order to reproduce and improve the Korean traditional Kochujang(fermented hot pepper-soybean paste), traditional and improved Kochujang Koji were prepared according to the standard method investigated in Chunrabookdo area and combined the raw materials of Kochujang by the traditional habit. Amino nitrogen contents were higher in improved Kochujang than in traditional one, those were in the range from 83 to 106 mg% immediately after brewing and 191 to 313 mg% at the end stage of brewing. Water soluble and ammonia nitrogen contents were most high in the improved Kochujang which was mixed with sodium chloride and brewed soysauce as seasoning. The content of reducing sugar of traditional Kochujang was higher than that of improved one during the brewing. Ethyl alcohol contents of all Kochujang samples were 0.04% at the early stage of brewing and that reached above 2.5% after $40{\sim}50$ days brewing.

  • The saponins isolated form the herb of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer were investigated as compared with ginseng root saponins. By adopting DEAE cellulose ion exchange chromatography the pure saponins were isolated from Korean ginseng roots and leaves. The ginseng root and leaf saponins showed some differences in the pattern of the two-dimensional thin layer chromatogram. The ratio of panaxadiol to panaxatriol in the saponins was 1.7 in the roots and 3.5 in the leaves. Infra-red spectrum of ginseng leaf saponins isolated by liquid chromatography was identical with that of root saponins.

Difference in Volatile Flavor Components among Milling Fractions of Wheat (밀 제분부위별 휘발성 성분의 차이)

  • This study was conducted to obtain basic information on the utilization of wheat flour for good organoleptic evaluation score. Wheat seed was milled by Buhler test mill. Volatile flavor compounds of five milling fractions such as Break $I{\cdot}II (B_1+B_2)$, Reduction I ($R_1$), Reduction II ($R_2$), Bran and Short were determined and their differences were discussed. There was significant difference in quantity of flavor compounds but no difference in qualitative composition among milling fractions. The outer layer of wheat endosperm ($R_2$ layer) showed higher amount of m-xylene and n-butanol in volatile flavor com­pounds compared with inner endosperm layer ($B_1,\;B_2,\;R_1$). The $R_2$ layer showed quantitatively higher composition of major flavor compounds than inner endosperm layer ($B_1,\;B_2,\;R_1$). This result points out that the $R_2$ layer exhibited stronger flavor than $B_1,\;B_2$, and Rl layers.
