A series of three shear wall specimens were tested under constant axial stress and reversed cyclic lateral loading to evaluate the capacity of seismic retrofit proposed for the shear wall with the opening induced by remodeling. One specimen was tested in the as-built condition and the others were retrofitted prior to testing. The retrofit involved the use of carbon fiber sheets and steel plates (thickness ; 3mm) over the entire face of the wall. Specimens were 1/2-scale representations of a one-story wall in a Korean apartment building that was built in 1980. The test results showed that failure mechanism of specimens governed by shear fracture and the strength of specimens was varied with according to the retrofitting strategies.

In this study, assuming that there is a diagonal uniaxial compression field in combination with triangular homogeneous stress fields in the cracked concrete wall and a tensile stress of a steel plate occurs in the perpendicular to the direction of the diagonal compression field, an ultimate shear strength of a slender composite shear wall is estimated.

This paper describes the experimental study on the structural behavior of the joint plane between a RC(Reinforced Concrete) wall and a SC(Steel Plate Concrete) wall under out-of plane flexural loads and in-plane shear loads. The test specimens were produced with L and I shape to assess efficiently flexural and shear behavior of the structures. In order to consider dynamic loads such as earthquake, cyclic loading tests were carried out. As results of the out-of plane flexural tests, ductile failure mode of vertical bars was shown under a push load and the failure load was more than nominal strength of the specimen. And the latter test was performed to verify the variation which was composition presence of horizontal bars in the SC member. The test results showed that capacity of the specimens was more than their nominal strength regardless of composition presence of horizontal bars.

A Steel plate shear wall can be used as one of the lateral force resistant elements in buildings. It have many advantages from a structural point of view such as ductility, energy absorption capacity and initial stiffness etc. In this study to grasp the behavior of steel plate shear wall considering material and geometrical non-linearity, the FEM analyses were carried out using ANSYS(ver. 5.6) program. The analysis results were fully discussed and compared with test results to verify the validity of analysis method. The object of this study is to find out analytically the elasto-plastic behavior of un-stiffened steel plate shear wall.
In this study, the structure behavior of RC slab and SC shear wall connection was investigated. Also experimental study was performed to evaluate the factor of safety of demand shear connection strength in KEPIC SNG Standard. As a result, shear friction strength of connection was known about 300kN and shear strength of rebar increased according to the displacement increase. With the installment of the lower rebars, 40% shear strength increased compared to the non-rebar specimen.
This study investigated the tension-field action induced strip angle changes and deformed mode shapes of SPSW for high-rise structures subjected to lateral forces. Based on the numerical analysis 3, 9, 14 and 20 story structures, shear and flexural modes were identified by comparing the numerical analysis results to the predicted strength by theory. Shear deformation mode exhibited a constant angle in tension-field; whereas, flexural mode of the numerical results, differed from the tension-field action theory.

This study analytically reviewed the behavior of Steel Plate Concrete(SC) walls subjected to cyclic loads to investigate the effects of shape and arrangement spacing of studs on the behavior of SC walls. To perform it, 9 cases of finite element analyses considering the different shape and spacing of studs in SC wall were carried out. As the results, the skeleton curves were obtained from the load-displacement history curves and the ultimate and yielding forces were increased as the spacing of studs decrease. In addition, the strength of inclined studs are shown to be bigger compared to that of general studs. The damping ratios are increased as the decrease of strength ratio. Finally, as the decrease of stud spacings, the cumulative dissipated energy was increased and the seismic performance was improved.

This study analytically reviewed the behavior of steel plate concrete (SC) walls subjected to forced vibration to investigate the effects of shape and arrangement spacing of studs on the behavior spacing of studs in SC wall were carried out. From the analyses, it was noted that the damping ratio obtained from the time history analyses showed overall high value in Half-power Bandwidth method and the lowest value in Fitted Exponential Curve method. And, in half of the design strength, the damping ratio presented approximately 3.0~4.2% and, in the design strength, it was approximately 4.1~5.2%. When the developed studs were used, the damping ratio was reduced slightly and it did not show consistent results between DS1 and DS2. When the distance between the studs increases more than necessary, it was also confirmed that the natural frequency was reduced and the damping ratio was increased.
Recently, for more demands of the economical benefits and environmental conservation, many engineers prefer to choose remodeling. Artificial openings are often unavoidable to make house wider, which will degrade wall strength and stiffness by losing effective wall section that may cause the weakening of system capacity. In these cases the damaged shear walls need to be retrofitted by additional materials or members. In this research, four specimens were tested to investigate the capacity of the damaged wall and the retrofitted wall. The artificially damaged wall was prestressed by tendons to improve the shear capacity of the wall, and the other walls were retrofitted by adding steel plate at the surface for the same purpose. Consequently, these retrofitted walls had improved capacity and stiffness in both shear and flexure. Especially, the wall with steel plate showed ductile behavior after ultimate load and the prestressed wall had greater stiffness than the unstrengthened prototype wall.

Experiments were performed to study the cyclic behavior of framed steel walls with thin web plates. Five specimens of single-bay and three-story steel plate walls were tested for cyclic lateral load. The parameters for the test specimens included the plate thickness and the column strength. Based on the test results, the strength, deformability, and energy dissipation capacity of the framed steel walls were studied. The test results showed that the behavioral characteristics of the framed steel walls with thin web plates were different in many aspects from those of the conventional braced frame, and the steel wall with a stiffened web plate exhibited cantilever action, high strength, and low ductility. With the framed steel plate walls, local plate buckling and tension-field action developed in the thin web plates, and plastic deformation was uniformly distributed along the wall's height. As a result, the framed steel plate walls exhibited combined flexural and shear deformation, but they also showed high strength and energy dissipation capacity. Moreover, such walls have high deformability, which was equivalent to that of the conventional moment frame. Frame members such as columns and beams, however, must be designed to resist the tension-field action of the thin web plates. If the column does not have sufficient strength, and if its sections are not compact enough, the overall strength of the framed steel wall might be significantly decreased by the development of the soft-story mechanism. The framed steel walls with thin web plates have advantages, such as high deformability and high strength. Therefore, they can be used as ductile elements in earthquake-resistant systems.
