  • In this paper the overstrength factors, ductility factors, and response modification factors of ordinary concentric braced frames designed in accordance with a current seismic design code are determined by performing pushover analysis. According to the analysis results, the overstrength and the response modification factors turn out to be larger than the values regulated in the codes in most model structures. However if the braces are reinforced by BRB or zipper columns, the overstrength factors and response modification factors turn out to increase significantly.

  • Recently, for UHPC (Ulta High Performance Concrete) which is researched actively, as the tensile strength is absolutely influenced on the content of steel fiber, in this paper, experiments of compressive strength, elasticity modulus and tensile strength were performed according to compressive strength and content of steel fiber as variables. By the test results, compressive strength, elasticity modulus and tensile strength are proportioned and have a good correlation and according to content of steel fiber, compressive and tensile strength are also proportioned and have a good correlation. In case of elasticity modulus, the difference between test and present design code is not large, so it is possible to adapt to present design code. On the other hand, in case of tensile strength, as there is no specification of present design code, new prediction equation is proposed by using nonlinear regression analysis and the proposed equation have a good correlation to test results.

  • Several non-destructive test methods have been developed to estimate compressive strength of concrete in other countries. However, their applications are limited in domestic concrete due to their inaccuracies. The purpose of this study is to propose an aging coefficient of compressive strength of structural concrete in rebound number method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method for domestic concrete. The test variables include type of aggregate, curing condition, and compressive strength. Two approaches are used to estimate aging coefficient. One is evaluated by uniform linear regression equation for all ages and shows uniform strength reduction coefficient regardless of material properties and the other is evaluated by individual regression equation for each ages and shows nonuniform strength reduction and rebound increasing coefficients which decrease with increasing of rebound number and compressive strength. The latter result which can include the effect of rebound number and compressive strength is more resonable than the former.

  • Since strength and diffusion coefficient of concrete, representative concrete properties that in change with age, the time effect must be considered in the analysis of chloride penetration. In this study, an evaluation of correlation between accelerated diffusion coefficient, apparent diffusion coefficient, and compressive strength in high performance concrete with various mineral admixtures such as ground granulated blast furnace slag, fly ash, and silica fume was performed. For this work, thirty mix proportions were prepared. Accelerated diffusion coefficients at the age of 28, 91, 180, and 270 days were evaluated. For apparent diffusion coefficient, submerging test for 6 months was performed. For evaluation of compressive strength with ages, the compressive strength test was carried out at an age of 7, 28, 91, 180 days. The results of accelerated diffusion coefficient, apparent diffusion coefficient, and strength were compared, and the correlation was analyzed considering time dependency. From this study, linear relationship between accelerated diffusion and apparent diffusion coefficient were obtained regardless of concrete age. The linear relations were also observed in strength-accelerated diffusion coefficient and strength-apparent diffusion coefficient regardless of concrete age.

  • For the design of concrete structures in the serviceability limit state, the uniaxial static modulus of elasticity may be a most important parameter. In particular, this may be so just for a deflection control of the structure. Even in new concrete codes, however, the elastic modulus is normally presented on the form of general empirical relationships with the compressive strength and density of concrete. Normally, there is a large uncertainty associated with the general equations obtained by regression. Thus, in a typical plot of static modulus of elasticity vs. compressive strength, a large scatter can be observed at same strength. The aim of this study is to present the method for obtain the maximum modulus of elasticity at same compressive strength. In the present paper report the effects of mix ingredients on the modulus of elasticity of high-strength concrete. The test of 284 cylinder specimens arc conducted for type I with 11 % replacement of fly-ash cement concretes. Different water-hinder ratio, amounts of water and coarse aggregate as variables were investigated. And also analyzed it statistically by using SAS.

  • Concrete strength relationship between various strength properties was presented through experimental data from concretes made from different sources of coarse aggregates and fine aggregates, and different amount of cement contents. In the strength relationship were included compression-flexure, compression-split tension, compression-modulus and flexure-split tension. A total of 61~81 data sets were analyzed while each data set is composed of 3 to 4 experimental test data. Using the proposed strength relations, a procedure to reliably estimate modulus values from the LTPP field test section was suggested. Core specimens were taken from 10 LTPP sections on the expressway as well as 4 sections on the national road. Then compressive strengths and modulus were determined in the lab. Finally concrete modulus was averaged with the estimated values by using the derived relationship and experimental values.

  • Isotropic rock and anisotropic rock have different tensile strength which has the greatest influence on rock failure. In this study, elastic modulus of anisotropic rock is obtained through uniaxial compression test, and tensile strength and tension failure behavior are analyzed through indirect tensile strength test. Stress concentration factor of a specimen at the center is obtained from anisotropic elastic modulus and strain by indirect tensile strength test. Theoretical solutions for tensile strength of isotropic and anisotropic rock are compared. Stress concentration factor of anisotropic rock is either higher or lower than isotropic rock depending on the inclination angle of bedding plane. The use of stress concentration factor of isotropic rock resulted in overestimation or underestimation of tensile strength.

  • The prediction of stress intensity factor(SIF) is one of the most important factors to analyse the propagation behavior of cracks in hull structural members. Up to now, however, simplified prediction method of SIF has not yet been established for the cracks experienced in large complex structures. As a first step to predict crack propagation behavior in a ship structure with very large structural redundancies, simplified SIF prediction formulas for various crack shapes were derived based on the results of the stress analysis under a non-crack condition in this study. The adequacy of the proposed method was then verified in comparison with other experimental and analysis results.

  • In this study, we analyze the problem of wedge cracks, which are geometrically unsymmetrical in transversely piezoelectric materials. A single concentrated antiplane mechanical load and inplane electrical load are applied at the point of the wedge surface, while one concentrated antiplane load is applied at the crack surface. The crack surfaces are considered as permeable thin slits, where both the normal component of electric displacement and the electric potential are assumed to be continuous across these slits. Using Mellin transform method, the problem is formulated and the Wiener-Hopf equation is derived. By solving the equation, the solution is obtained in a closed form. The intensity factors of the stress and the electric displacement are obtained for any crack length as well as inclined and wedge angles. Based on the results, the intensity factors are independent of the applied electric loads. The electric displacement intensity factor is always dependent on that of stress intensity factor, while the electric field intensity factor is zero. In addition, the energy release rate is computed. These solutions can be used as fundamental solutions which can be superposed to arbitrary electromechanical loadings.
