  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of adolescents' emotional control strategies on emotional instability and stress. Study subjects included 124 adolescents from Ulsan city. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were performed using the SPSS 22.0 program, and multiple regression analysis was performed on the causal relationships between variables. First, as a result of examining the effect of adolescents' emotion control strategies on job burnout, it was found that emotion-centered strategy, a sub-factor of emotion control strategy, had a significant effect on emotional instability. On the other hand, it was found that cognitive-oriented strategy factors did not significantly affect emotional instability. Second, as a result of examining the effect of emotion control strategies on stress, it was found that emotion-centered strategies, a sub-factor of emotion control strategy, had a significant negative (-) effect on stress. On the other hand, it was found that cognitive-oriented strategy factors did not significantly affect stress. These results imply that higher emotion-centered strategies lead to lower emotional instability and stress. This study provides basic data for preparing plans to reduce the emotional instability and stress of adolescents.

  • The goal of the study was to examine pre-service teachers' emotional experiences, especially during student teaching. The following questions guided this study. First, during student teaching, what are the characteristics of emotional experiences of pre-service science teachers? Second, what are used as the emotional rules and strategies by student teacher? In this study, we tracked nine pre-service science teachers over a four-week period of the student teaching. The data sources were lesson observations, interviews, emotional journals, and video-recorded classroom lessons. Results showed that student teachers experienced various 25 different types of emotions which were reported as the primary emotions of Koreans. The main subjects for interaction for positive emotions were students. For negative emotions, students, teachers and student teachers themselves all resulted in such negative emotional experiences. When the student teachers experienced negative emotions, they followed the emotional rule that their emotions should not be expressed in front of the students. Because of this, they tried various strategies for controlling emotions, such as 'understanding students', 'finding the positive side', 'seeing good students', 'ignoring', 'holding back', 'evading', and 'giving up'. Finally, suggestions for teacher education were discussed.

  • Previous researches related to emotional labor have been cross-sectional studies focusing on static differences in emotional exhaustion. Previous studies on these relationships have not highlighted the dynamic properties of these relationships. This purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of emotional labor strategy on perceived emotional exhaustion and depression. This study was conducted by paying attention to the fact that service industry workers who have to respond kindly to customers often have to show emotions which is necessary for their business to the outside world rather than showing their true emotions. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, it was confirmed that surface acting had a positive influence on emotional exhaustion, but deep acting had a negative influence to emotional exhaustion. Second, it was found that surface acting had a positive influence on depression, but deep acting had a negative influence on depression. Third, it was confirmed that the effect of deep acting on emotional exhaustion decreased when emotional labor was performed through deep acting on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, while emotional exhaustion was not significant on Thursdays and Fridays. Fourth, it was confirmed that the difference in the effect of emotional labor strategy on depression was greater in the case of performing emotional labor through surface acting than in the case of performing emotional labor through deep acting.

  • This descriptive survey was conducted to explore the effects of work engagement and its associated factors among general hospital nurses. Nurses working in general hospitals were recruited in D city and K region. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and stepwise multiple regression using IBM SPSS 25. The mean score of work engagement of the subjects was 3.08. The mean scores of emotional modulation effects in profession, patient focused emotional suppression, and emotional pretense by norms which are subgroups of emotional labor by norms were 3.82, 3.28, and 3.22, respectively, while that of the nursing work environment was 2.59. Work engagement was significantly positively correlated with emotional modulation effects in profession (r=0.30, p=0.001), patient-focused emotional suppression (r=0.20, p=0.030), and nursing work environment (r=0.21, p=0.024). The results showed that the factors that affect the work engagement were age, current position, and emotional modulation effects in profession, which explained 20% of the variance in work engagement (F=10.37, p<0.001). Therefore, to establish strategies for improving the level of work engagement, it is necessary to consider age and current positions of nurses and to develop a nursing intervention program to strengthen emotional modulation effects among general hospital nurses.

  • This study aims to discover an effect of conflicts between work-family family-work of hotel employees on their emotional exhaustion through an empirical analysis, and to propose relevant implications. Also, the study tried to identify which role a responsive strategy may play as a moderating variable from among such influential factors. In consideration of the sales and the number of rooms at hotels as of 2010, the study conducted survey research about seven hotels located in Seoul, and carried out research with 298 copies of effective samples. In order to confirm the effect of work-family family-work on emotional exhaustion, the study undertook a multiple regression analysis and performed a moderated regression analysis for confirming the moderation effect of a responsive strategy. As a result, only the conflicts between one's work and a family had a significant effect on emotional exhaustion, and a problem-oriented responsive strategy demonstrated a moderation effect of the conflicts between work-family family-work and emotional exhaustion. In this regard, hotels should be prepared with a system which enables hotel chefs to be more faithful to both their families and household affairs through the reasonable operation of workload or an instructive system at work, and it would be possible to deal with the symptom of emotional exhaustion by conflict management through a rational analysis of the cause of conflict, if any, as well as through an alternative to such a conflict.
