The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an imagery-focused music listening program for improving emotion regulation among infertile women. For the program development in this study, the literature on emotional issues and coping strategy of infertile women was analyzed to establish theoretical foundation; and the literature on Supportive Music and Imagery (SMI) was analyzed to identify intervention components. Based on the established theoretical framework, the program was developed and finalized after evaluation of validity by four SMI professionals. The developed program was found to systematically target changes in emotions in the step-wise process of discovery, reinforcement, and affirmation of positive emotional resources. The list of music for future use was also identified and presented after systematic analysis of musical features in relation to valence and arousal of emotions. The imagery-focused music listening program was an initial approach to infertile women with SMI, which indicates the possibility of extended application for broadened clinical population.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of vocal and instrumental background music on a verbal memorizing task. Participants were 30 undergraduate and graduate students and were randomly divided into two groups. All participants in both groups took a pretest and a posttest to examine the improvement of the memorization. Background music was inserted during the memorization task. Subjects in Group A listened to a vocal recording whereas Group B listened to the same music except with a cello playing the melody of the vocal part. All participants were asked to take the posttest to examine the improvement of their knowledge after the memorization. The t-test was used to compare the two groups. Results indicated that Group A(8.93) exhibited higher mean scores than Group B(7.46) but there were no significant differences t(28) = 1.38, p < .05. This study implies that lyrics does not distract word memorization and background music does not influence cognition directly.
The purpose of this research is to find out the effects of music therapy activities using preferred music on job stress, work engagement and flourishing of reporters in broadcasting company. The study targets 51 reporters in S city, with the experimental group consisting of 20 reporters from A broadcasting company and the control group composed of 31 reporters from A newspaper company. The experimental group voluntarily listened to preferred music at least three times a day for two weeks, while the control group did not perform any activities. For data analysis, the job stress scale, work engagement scale, and flourishing scale scores of each group were collected right before and after the experiment, and the results of the analysis were as follows. First, the experimental group's job stress decreased, and significant score differences were also shown in comparison with the control group. Second, work engagement also increased by a noticeable difference. Third, in the case of flourishing, the after experiment's average value rose slightly, but the difference was not statistically significant. In conclusion, this research offered implications for the need for a music therapy activity program to recover from reporters' job stress circumstances and discussed the need for further research.
Students with learning disability have difficulty with attention and academic achievement Music can be an effective tool to enhance level of participation. The purpose of this study is to examine how much can be structured to enhance the attention span and related academic skills needed to achieve educational goals. The study has implemented structured music therapy sessions for three middle school students with learning disability. They participated in 20 sessions which were 30 minutes in length for ten weeks. The implemented music therapy sessions were designed using songs, playing, and listening to music. In order to test their level of attention, Frankfurter Aufmerksamkeits-Inventar(FAIR) Attention Test is implemented and Conners' Comprehensive Teacher's Rating Scale(CTRS-10) are used on the week before and after music activities. Also videotaping is used so as to analyze how correctly they do their task and how the correctness is changed period by period and to evaluate how often for ten minutes they make an eye contact with their teacher. The conclusions of this study are as follows: Firstly, the organized music activities have a positive affection on improving the attention of three middle school students who have learning disabilities. Fair Attention Test shows that they can do their task with more accuracy than in the previous period. Secondly, three students of this study improved their attention and made an eye contact more often than before this study, which is revealed through the analysis of the pre and post test results evaluated by CTRS-10. The results of the study indicate that structured use of music in various level of activities can help students to enhance attention span and the related academic skills.
This case used MI techniques that give an imagery experience to depressed client's mental resource, and that makes in to verbalism. Also those images are supportive level therapy examples that apply to positive variation. MI is simple word of 'Music and Imagery' with one of psychology cure called GIM(Guided Imagery and Music). It makes client can through to the inner world and search, confront, discern and solve with suitable music. Supportive Level MI is only used from safety level music. Introduction of private session can associate specification feeling, subject, word or image. And those images are guide to positive experience. The First session step of MI program is a prelude that makes concrete goal like first interview. The Second step is a transition that can concretely express about client's story. The third step is induction and music listening. And it helps to associate imagery more easily by used tension relaxation. Also it can search and associate about various imagery from the music. The last step is process that process drawing imagery, talking about personal imagery experience in common with therapist that bring the power by expansion the positive experience. Client A case targets rapport forming(empathy, understanding and support), searching positive recourse(child hood, family), client's emotion and positive support. Music must be used simple tone, repetition melody, steady rhythm and organized by harmony music of what therapist and client's preference. The client used defense mechanism and couldn't control emotion by depression in 1 & 2 sessions. But the result was client A could experience about support and understanding after 3 sessions. After session 4 the client had stable, changed to positive emotion from the negative emotion and found her spontaneous. Therefore, at the session 6, the client recognized that she will have step of positive time at the future. About client B, she established rapport forming(empathy, understanding and support) and searching issues and positive recognition(child hood, family), expression and insight(present, future). The music was comfortable, organizational at the session 1 & 2, but after session 3, its development was getting bigger and the main melody changed variation with high and low of tune. Also it used the classic and romantic music. The client avoids bad personal relations to religious relationship. But at the session 1 & 2, client had supportive experience and empathy because of her favorite, supportive music. After session 3, client B recognized and face to face the present issue. But she had avoidance and face to face of ambivalence. The client B had a experience about emotion change according depression and face to face client's issues After session 4. At the session 5 & 6, client tried to have will power of healthy life and fairly attitude, train mental power and solution attitude in the future. On this wise, MI program had actuality and clients' issues solution more than GIM program. MI can solute the issue by client's based issue without approach to unconsciousness like GIM. Especially it can use variety music and listening time is shorter than GIM and structuralize. Also can express client's emotion very well. So it can use corrective and complement MI program to children, adolescent and adult.
Animation films form a substantial part of pop culture and depict the sociocultural changes and values of the time in which they are made through visual expression of story and characters. In the process of appreciating animation films and accepting the characters, the audience learns the gender role behaviors that appear in the works as socially acceptable representations of men and women. This study illustrates whether the expression of gender role and behaviors of characters from animation films have changed over time or not by analyzing the costume and gestures of the female protagonists in 'Mulan', 'Tangled', 'Moana', and 'Frozen 2'. These films are considered to reflect the modern female identity on their story and characters. The study confirms that the stereotypical gestures and behaviors of women are still used today to portray the female protagonists in the animation films contrary to the story composition and various aspects of characters which escaped the formal stereotype. It is important for children and adolescents, the main consumers of animation, to learn and know how to consume media properly. Thus, this study seeks to illuminate the importance of research on animation literacy eduction for children and adolescents by examining the visual expressions and their implications in various animation films.
This review was conducted to identify the research trends in music intervention studies with elderly patients with dementia. Korean- and English-written studies on music intervention for this population were searched and analyzed. Seventeen studies were included in the final analysis. The results showed that behavioral and psychological symptoms were the main dependent variables. In terms of the type of music intervention employed, interventions requiring the patient's active participation in producing music were more common than interventions that required the patient to only listen to music. The majority of studies provided live music, selected music that was familiar to and preferred by the patient, and utilized rhythm-based performance activities. In the studies using active music production as the intervention, the participants were asked to express the emotions evoked by group instrument playing or singing along with music, which doesn't reflect the functional limitations (e.g., cognitive impairment) of elderly patients with moderate to severe dementia. The results of this review point to the need in the field to develop music intervention programs for the elderly with moderate to severe dementia that meaningfully engage these patients in music-related behaviors that target their specific symptomology.

The growth of mobile devices and network infrastructure has brought significant changes to the music industry. Online streaming services has allowed music consumption without constraints of time and space, leading to increased consumer engagement in music creation and sharing activities, resulting in a vast accumulation of music data. In this study, we define metadata as "song sentences" by using a user's playlist. To calculate similarity, we embedded them into a high-dimensional vector space using skip-gram with negative sampling algorithm. Performance eva luation results indicated that the recommended music algorithm, utilizing singers, genres, composers, lyricists, arrangers, eras, seasons, emotions, and tag lists, exhibited the highest performance. Unlike conventional recommendation methods based on users' behavioral data, our approach relies on the inherent information of the tracks themselves, potentially addressing the cold start problem and minimizing filter bubble phenomena, thus providing a more convenient music listening experience.
The purpose of this study was to examine the use of music by international college students in Korea. A questionnaire was administered to foreign college students. The questionnaire was composed of 25 items regarding use of music, the purpose of music use, and demographic information. A total of 150 questionnaires were distributed, and 81 questionnaires were returned. Incomplete questionnaires were excluded, and the remaining 69 questionnaires were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows. First, international students in Korea preferred listening to music over playing instruments or singing and mostly listened to popular music in their dormitory alone. They mostly listened to popular songs with love related themes and preferred music from their own country over Korean music. Second, in terms of the purpose behind music use, comfort was the reason reported most frequently, followed by mood change, enjoyment, sense of belonging, and sense of achievement. Third, there were no significant differences in use of music depending on individual factors (e.g., gender, length of residence in Korea, length of previous music education), but significant differences were found for using music for the purpose of mood change and sense of belonging based on respondents' length of residence in Korea. The results of this study may contribute to the development of musical programs for cultural adaptation and psycho-emotional support for international students in Korea.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the musical activities and musical preference according to coping strategy of university students. The survey was conducted to 200 students and the data of 168 was analysed. The results of the research are as follows. First, the number of problem-solving coping was the highest, and the number of emotional-alleviate coping was the lowest. And coping strategy between male and female student showed a significant difference. Second, music listening was the most preferred activity. There was a significant difference in the most preferred activity between male and female students, also between active and inactive coping strategy. However, the most doing activity between music major students and non-music major students showed a significant difference. In addition, there was a significant differences in the purpose of playing instruments between male and female students and among academic year. Third, Korean-pop was the most preferred genre. Result showed a significant difference in preferred musical elements between male and female students. There were genre, melody, loudness, and theme of lyric. Meanwhile, preferred musical elements between active and inactive coping strategy showed a statistical differences. There were rhythm, timbre, and medium of listening. Finally, there were statistical differences in the preferred harmony and familiarity between music major students and non-music major students.
