Neurolytic splanchnic nerve block is effective for treatment of intractable upper abdominal cancer in. The possibility of neurologic complication cannot be completely precluded. A 53 year-old female patient with hepatoma and lung metastasis was submitted for splanchnic nerve block with alcohol. Splanchnic nerve block was performed under radiologic control by image intensifier without any difficulty during procedure. One day after the block, she complained of numbness with sensory deficit in bilateral inguinal area. Neurologic examination revealed that asymmetrical anesthesia, hypoesthesia at $T_{12}-L_2$. She was discharged 70 days after the block with partial improvement. The possibility of alcohol spreading to the low theracic and upper lumbar somatic nerves cannot be excluded.

The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is a widely used model organism in biological research. Thanks to the availability of well-established knowledge about its neural connectivity, a wide range of studies have been attempted to uncover the relationship between behaviors and the responsible neurons. In our research, the adaptive behavior of C. elegans in solid environments with different surface rigidities is investigated, where the worm adapts to different mechanical stiffnesses by modulating its crawling waveform. The amplitude and wavelength of the crawling waveform decrease as the environment becomes more rigid. Interestingly, the mechanosensation-defective mutant shows different responses to the surface rigidity compared to those of the wild-type worm. To explain the adaptation process in mechanically different environments, we suggest a plausible neural circuit model.
As there is impulsive buying that is pervasive phenomenon in the clothing consumption area, many academics and practitioners have been interested in it. Although prior studies have provided useful insights for understanding and predicting consumers' impulsive behavior, the findings do not clearly explain why different consumers influence impulsive behavior differently even when presented with the same shopping environment. Regulatory focus theory (Higgins, 1987, 1997, 2001) provides an insight for better understanding of consumers' impulsive responses to the elements of shopping experience. Thus, the purpose of our research was to understand the effect of consumers' regulatory focus (i.e., promotion focused vs. prevention focused) on their shopping experiences and impulsive behavior. A total of 157 data collected from female consumers lived in Ulsan and Pusan was used for this study. The results were as follows: First, sensitive experience and emotional experience have significantly positive effects on impulsive buying, but rational experience does significantly negatively effects on it. Second, to test the moderating effects of consumers' regulatory focus, responses were divided into two groups including promotion-focused group (n = 91) and prevention-focused group (n = 66) based on the relative strength of one type of their regulatory focus, which was introduced by Higgins (2001). Multiple regression analysis (independent variables: shopping experience, dependant variable: impulsive buying) was run within each group. The results showed that for the promotion-focused group, sensitive and emotional experience have significantly positive effects on impulsive buying. For prevention focused group, sensitive experience has significantly positive effects on impulsive buying and rational experience does significantly negatively effects on it. Chow's and Fisher's z-test were confirmed that the relationship between shopping experience and impulsive buying behavior was significantly different depending on consumers' regulatory focus.
Rodents and many other mammals have two chemosensory systems that mediate responses to pheromones, the main and accessory olfactory system, MOS and AOS, respectively. The chemosensory neurons associated with the MOS are located in the main olfactory epithelium, while those associated with the AOS are located in the vomeronasal organ(VNO). Pheromonal odorants access the lumen of the VNO via canals in the roof of the mouth, and are largely thought to be nonvolatile. The main pheromone receptor proteins consist of two superfamilies, V1Rs and V2Rs, that are structurally distinct and unrelated to the olfactory receptors expressed in the main olfactory epithelium. These two type of receptors are seven transmembrane domain G-protein coupled proteins(V1R with $G_{{\alpha}i2}$, V2R with $G_{0\;{\alpha}}$). V2Rs are co-expressed with nonclassical MHC Ib genes(M10 and other 8 M1 family proteins). Other important molecular component of VNO neuron is a TrpC2, a cation channel protein of transient receptor potential(TRP) family and thought to have a crucial role in signal transduction. There are four types of pheromones in mammalian chemical communication - primers, signalers, modulators and releasers. Responses to these chemosignals can vary substantially within and between individuals. This variability can stem from the modulating effects of steroid hormones and/or non-steroid factors such as neurotransmitters on olfactory processing. Such modulation frequently augments or facilitates the effects that prevailing social and environmental conditions have on the reproductive axis. The best example is the pregnancy block effect(Bruce effect), caused by testosterone-dependent major urinary proteins(MUPs) in male mouse urine. Intriguingly, mouse GnRH neurons receive pheromone signals from both odor and pheromone relays in the brain and may also receive common odor signals. Though it is quite controversial, recent studies reveal a complex interplay between reproduction and other functions in which GnRH neurons appear to integrate information from multiple sources and modulate a variety of brain functions.

This study was carried out to investigate the physiological responses of obese children after a short-term wear training and education. A ten-week program was conducted on thirteen obese elementary school children of six boys and seven girls in the 4th to the 6th grade. During the program, the children were instructed to measure daily ambient temperature and weight of their clothing. Physiological responses of the sedentary children in 100$\%$ cotton short sleeved t-shirt (0.13clo) and T/C short pants(0.09clo) were observed in the climatic chamber of 23.0$\pm$0.5$^{circ}C$ and 50$\pm$5$\%$RH before and after program. During the experiment, internal ear temperature ($T_{ear}$), seven site skin temperatures, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, and subjective responses of thermal comfort and thermal sensation were measured every 5minutes. Mean skin temperature($T_{sk}$) and mean arterial pressure(MAP) were calculated. Obtained data are statistically analyzed and main results are as follows. There was highly significant correlation between the ambient temperature and the total clothing weight. $T_{ear}$ and MAP were reduced in the post-program compared to the pre-program. The obese girls felt slightly warmer than the obese boys and the girls were likely to prefer lower ambient temperature in the post-program than the pre-program. It was concluded that the 10 week wear training is apt to be more applicable to the obese girls than the obese boys. However, a more comprehensive study including. diverse measurements of deep body temperature with a long-term training would be needed to clarify the improvement of temperature adaptability in the obese children.

Objective : In this study, we are going to check the impact of the daily performance of a child with developmental disabilities on the parent's burden and quality of life. Methods : 120 parents of children with developmental disabilities were targeted in Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces. To measure the daily performance ability of children with developmental disabilities, we used evaluative Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory and The burden of parents was measured by Family Burden Questionnaire and the quality of life by Beach Center Family Quality of Life Scale. Based on the data collected, independent t-test, one-way anova, Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted to check the impact of a child's daily performance ability of developmental disability on the parent's burden and quality of life. Results : The daily performance ability of a children with developmental disabilities showed a negative correlation with the burden of the parents and a positive correlation with the quality of life. The hygiene and bowel & bladder control of children with developmental disabilities had an important influence on parent's burden, while hygiene, toileting, and bowel & bladder control of children with developmental disabilities had a significant effect on their parent's quality of life. Conclusion : It has been shown that the daily performance ability of a children with developmental disabilities has a major influence on parent's burden and quality of life. In order to reduce the burden and improve quality of life, therapeutic intervention, education and interview programs for daily life of children with developmental disabilities need to be carried out systematically by occupational therapists.
In this study, the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of such as enzymatically treated and texture modified elderly foods made with beef, squid, eel, and mackerel were investigated. The enzymatically treated squid sample showed the proper texture hardness level corresponding to Universal Design Food (UDF) level 1 and all other elderly foods showed hardness consistent with UDF Level 2. The moisture contents were higher than 70% in the enzymatically treated boiled down squid and the two texture modified samples made with eel and mackerel, respectively. The enzymatically treated beef and squid samples contained 25.26 and 21.73% of crude protein, respectively. One serving portion of these enzymatically treated samples provided over 50% of daily needed protein intake of 65 years and older. According to the sensory evaluation of the samples, elderly recognized the differences between all enzyme treatment samples and controls in terms of hardness and chewiness, which are the main factors of the elderly food. In addition, the easier swallowness of texture modified foods were perceived. The positive assessment of elderly on the enzymatically treated samples using beef and squid were confirmed by preference tests.

Many researches have been published about the numerous factors related to the chewing ability of implant prosthesis. Most respective studies have concluded that the chewing ability of implant prosthesis is mostly fine compared to other type of prosthesis. However, some patients are not satisfied with their chewing ability of implant prosthesis. Therefore the neurologic factor, one of the factors related to dissatisfaction of chewing ability was reviewed in this study to understand the mechanism of action of mastication. Data was searched using the keywords; 'implant chewing ability, masticatory ability' in Pubmed database and reviewed. Definitions of chewing ability, factors of chewing ability are reviewed and the neurologic factor, one of the factors influencing on chewing ability, is reviewed. Mechanoreceptor of Periodontal ligament(PDL) is providing the mastication information to brainstem. Due to the absence of mechanoreceptions of PDL in implant, masticatory ability is decreased especially when chewing hard food. Masticatory muscles and mechanoreceptor in TMD may compensate the lack of mechanoreceptor of PDL in implants. Furthermore sensitivity of nerve fiber around peri-implant tissues may support the mechanoreception and sensory reaction in the implant mastication. However, further studies should be conducted to prove the relationships between neurologic factors and mastication.
During root canal treatment, overinstrumentation with hand or mechanically driven files can perforate the mandibular canal, allowing the extrusion of endodontic sealers, dressing agents, and irrigant solutions out of the tooth and into the canal. The patient may report symptoms such as pain, hyperesthesia, hypoesthesia, anesthesia, dysesthesia and paresthesia. Such problems must be resolved as quickly as possible to avoid irreversible sequelae caused by certain neurotoxic materials that form part of endodontic sealants. Although there have been no controlled trials of treatment protocols involving endodontically related injuries to the inferior alveolar nerve, the normal therapeutic sequence for this complication is the control of pain and inflammation and, whenever possible, the surgical elimination of the cause. However, total resolution of pain and reduction in or disappearance of paraesthesia after a non-surgical management have been reported. Antiepileptic drugs such as gabapentin or pregabalin have been used for the treatment of neuropathic pain. This article describes a case of inferior alveolar nerve(IAN) damage after endodontic treatment of a mandibular right second molar and the treatment with non-surgical approach using prednisone and gabapentin medication, monitoring the patient's condition with clinical neurosensory examination and current perception threshold test(Neurometer).
