  • This study was attempted to identify the difference between nursing competencies and major satisfaction before and after the first clinical practice of nursing college students and use it as basic data for efficient clinical practice education. Data collection by single group pre- and post-design was conducted from February 18 to April 23, 2019 for 201 nursing college students before and after clinical practice for 8 weeks. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, paried t-test, and Pearson's Correlation, Multiple Regression using SPSS/Win 23.0. As a result of the study, Nursing competency increased after the first clinical practice than before, but it was not significant(t=-1.73, p=.084). Among the sub-factors of nursing competency, educational ability(t=-1.97, p=.050) and ethical practical ability(t=-209, p=.038) was found to increase significantly. Major satisfaction was significantly increased after clinical practice than before(t=-2.45, p=.015). After clinical practice, it was found that general satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, and recognition satisfaction which are sub-factors of major satisfaction, had a positive correlation with nursing competency. As a result of analyzing the impact on nursing competency, it was found that recognition satisfaction explains nursing competency as 9.9%. Therefore, it is necessary to reorganize the clinical practice curriculum that can improve nursing competency, develop a program that can improve major satisfaction, and verify the effectiveness.

  • This study was to identify the factors of ethical values in nursing students. The survey was conducted in two nursing colleges (n=180) using self-reported questionnaire. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analyses using SPSS/WIN 21 software. Influencing factors of ethical values were empathy(t=3.436, p=.001), teaching method except lecture(t=3.037, p=.003), and curriculum track at high school(t=2.309, p=.022). The model was statistically significant explaining 16.2% of the variance (F=11.185, p<.001). This study suggests that strategies for increasing nursing students' ethical values include reinforcing empathy, utilizing various type of teaching method except lecture in nursing ethics class, and allowing high school students applying to college of nursing regardless of their curriculum track.

The participants were 380 nurses and nursing students and data were collected from May until June of 2014. The data were collected by means of self reported questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe test with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. The result showed that the fear of death of others with nursing students was higher than nurses (t=-3.34, p=.001) and nursing students supported euthanasia more than nurses(t=-3.06, p=.002). Among the death attitude, both of the nurses and the nursing students had the highest score 'fear of their own dying' and the lowest score 'fear of the dying of others'. Regarding attitude to euthanasia, both of them the most important factor was 'the right of the client'. These results suggest that death education program to deal with nursing services without ethical conflicts should be developed.

  • Purpose: This study purposed to develop a model of self-regulatory body in nursing (SRBN), which is efficient under the current situation of Korea. Method: The study was conducted in three stages: 1) Analysis of the functions and roles of domestic institutes related to SRBN in their activities 2) literature review and case studies of overseas SRBN; and 3) development of the proposal. Result: Mostly, in foreign countries, SRBN performs the functions of improving the quality of nursing through education, standardization, regulations, researches and activities toward the government and, consequently, enhances the reliability and quality of healthcare services. As a measure against the opening of the domestic medical market to the world in the future, this study proposed a model of SRBN in order to be equipped with functions to protect people and qualities to compete with healthcare services in advanced countries. Conclusion: This study explains the significance of SRBN to nurses and policy makers who do not recognize the necessity of a SRBN, and its results may be utilized as reference materials for the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing, which is currently playing the role of a SRBN, to perform activities toward the government for expanding, improving and maintaining its roles.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify nursing students' knowledge and attitude toward advance directives and factors influencing the attitude. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used and 196 nursing students participated in the study. Data were collected from July 1 to August 30, 2018 using a structured questionnaire which included biomedical ethics, awareness of good death, knowledge and attitude toward advance directives. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 25.0 program with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression. Results: The mean score of biomedical ethics, awareness of good death, knowledge and attitude toward advance directives were $2.88{\pm}0.59$, $3.18{\pm}0.48$, $7.68{\pm}31.32$, $31.00{\pm}3.09$. Factors influencing the attitude toward advance directives were awareness of good death (${\beta}=.28$, p<.001), intention of writing their advance directives (${\beta}=.19$, p=.006), the knowledge related to advance directives (${\beta}=.15$, p=.029). A total of 14% of attitude toward advance directives was explained by awareness of good death, the knowledge related to advance directives, and ntention of writing their advance directives. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicate that it is necessary to provide a systemic education program regarding advance directives for nursing students in order to provide knowledge related to advance directives and to help them establish positive attitudes toward advance directives.
