  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual condition of the disabled due to Occupational accidents based on the functional evaluation tool. Method: The data were collected from 2 Workers Accident Medical Corporation, 311 subjects between February and August, 2007. The tool comprised of six components including physical function, cognitive function, communication, emotional and disturbing behavior, nursing skills and rehabilitation needs. Results: Among the disabled, the average point of physical function of 5 was found in 61.92% and to express and understand were evaluated as normal in 36.69% and 33.44%, respectively. Also, hearing and vision were evaluated as normal in 53.50% and 37.98%, respectively. 19.01% of the disabled had emotional problems and 13.78% had disturbing behavior. Most disabled were in need of nursing skills with 97.73% ROM and activities. The 78.18% and 76.90% of disabled were in need of rehabilitation because of right and left leg in full movement disorders, respectively. Conclusion: The evaluation score for the disabled caused by Occupational accidents was diverse showing 10 to 19 points and 140 to 150 points. The result means the care cost should be determined depending on the care needs of the disabled because there is such a diverse range of care needs for them.

  • This paper proposes a design of controller for automatic evacuation disposal system with suction, collecting, washing, and drying functions to be useful for excretion care of long-term bedridden patients. It is desirable that the system can discriminate excreta such as feces and urine severally, and dispose of them without having additional efforts of caregivers. This paper describes a method to improve the discrimination ability by using multi-sensors, and proposes disposal processes according to the type of excrements. As a result the automatic evacuation disposal system can perform an efficient operation in the excrement care. Experimental results using artificial excrements show the automatic evacuation disposal system is effective and feasible to assist the excrement care.

  • Purpose: A national long-term care system for elderly and the disabled has its unique evolution in each country. Japan, Germany and the United States may be the typical examples of respective social insurance system. This paper reviews the counterpart examples of Japan, Germany and the United States and looks at their accumulated long-term care system experiences and personal care system under workers' compensation. Methods: Literature review and website searching were conducted. Key words as 'workers' compensation insurance', 'personal care benefit' and 'long term care' were used in searching the related literatures. Results: Though the personal care benefit under current Workers'Compensation in Korea is very similar to Japan's, the long-term care system of Korea is not as well established. Germany and the United States have the provision of personal care benefit for injured workers within long term care system. Conclusions: We recommend some key issues to take into account for improving personal care benefit system in workers' compensation in Korea as follows: providing a comprehensive coverage through the linkage of long term care, introducing an assessment & evaluation system for the appropriate benefits, establishing insurer's role for quality management of personal care service, and developing a policy for family caregivers.

  • Purpose: To study aimed to examine the impact of the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service on nursing work performance, nurse' job satisfaction, and patient safety. Methods: A total of 66 nurses were selected as participants, comprising 30 nurses working in Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service hospital ward, and 33 nurses working in a general hospital ward with a similar patient and disease group and distributed moderately. For data analysis, t-tests, ANOVA, and $X^2$ tests were conducted. Results: Nursing work performance in the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service ward was higher than that in the general hospital ward, but this difference was not statistically significant. Conversely, job satisfaction was lower among nurses in the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service ward, although again the difference was not significant. However, the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service ward had a significantly lower rate of safety-related accidents in patients compared to the general hospital ward. Conclusion: In order to expand and improve patient safety and other aspects of the Nursing and Care=giving Integrated Service, there is a need to establish a mediation strategy for increasing nurses' work performance and job satisfaction.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide baseline data on paid hospital-caregivers' work performance, degree of importance of caregiving, and their knowledge as well as affecting factors on the level of practice when there is no guardian. Methods: The subjects of this study were 155 total caregivers working at 9 hospitals. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires in December, 2010. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: The caregivers' level of practice showed 4.0/5.0 points, degree of importance, 4.4/5.0 points, and knowledge, 4.3/5.0 points. The level of practice was significantly different depending on the hospital types. Significant correlations were found between level of practice, degree of importance and knowledge. The degree of importance and types of hospital attributed to 17.1% of variance in the level of practice. Conclusion: A systematic hospital caregivers' program focusing on strategy to enhance caregivers' level of practice, degree of importance and knowledge can be effective for paid hospital-caregivers when there is no guardian.

  • The purpose of this study is identify the status of the ward of public hospital for integrated nursing care service. Integrated nursing care service has been expanding on a national scale from 2016 but most of public hospitals are currently unable to operate due to nursing shortage. In this study 8 wards of public hospital have been chosen and analyzed. The measure of space program and area distribution(patient area percentage, staff area percentage, circulation area percentage), nurses's walking distance(distance from ns to patient room, distance from ns to core) were calculated by depthmapX and autocad programs. The result of this study is as follows. Nurse's walking distance is more than 24m so the efficiency of nurse's patient care is reduced. The percentage of patient area in double-corridor is higher and the patient feels more comfortable but the Nurse's walking distance is longer and the accessibility is lowered. NS should be located in the center of the ward and close to the core but some wards are not composed of proper space-separation and flow of human trrafic is overlapped. This study may serve as basic research for the architectural plan for future integrated nursing care ward.

Methods: An one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was used. Six family caregivers recruited from a support center for dementia in Seoul and participated in this study. Once a week, the Dongsasub training was provided for 90 minutes during eight weeks. Results: Depression was significantly lower (z=-2.01, p=.044), and self-esteem was significantly higher (z=-2.21, p=.027) than before Dongsasub training. However, care burden was not significantly different between pre and post program (z=-1.58, p=.115). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the Dongsasub training can be used as a nursing intervention in community settings to decrease depression and improve self-esteem for the family caregivers of patients with dementia.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to improve nursing practice efficiency by analyzing and comparing the emotional labor, job stress, and performance of nurses in comprehensive nursing care wards and in general wards. Methods: The study surveyed 151 nurses in comprehensive nursing care and general wards. The results were analyzed by ${\chi}$ 2test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in terms of emotional labor, job stress, and performance for the two different types of nurses. Statistically significant positive correlations were noted between job stress and emotional labor, nursing performance, emotional labor, and job stress in the comprehensive nursing care wards, and between job stress and emotional labor, and nursing performance in the general wards. Conclusion: A longer duration of direct nursing in comprehensive nursing care wards tended to increase, emotional labor and job stress. However, the quality of nursing provided to patients tended to improve. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an institutional plan for carrying out efficient nursing while reducing emotional labor and job stress among nurses in comprehensive nursing care wards.
