  • The oral admistration of deer horn extract was proved to cause a considerable amelioration to the impairment of hepatic oxidative phosphorylation and to the decrease of ATP content in liver tissue induced by cholesterol ingestion. Deer horn extract was shown to accelerate considerably incorporation of $acetate-1-C^{14}$ into cholesterol in liver tissue and it tends to restore a decrease of GOT activity of liver tissue, caused by cholesterol administration. Histological examination showed that deer horn extract had a remakable preventive effect aginst fatty infiltration of organgs such as liver, heart, spleen, and adrenal gland of cholesterol given rabbits.

  • Jon Gyunk Gak established in 1475 was the library of Sung Kyun Kwan which was the only university in the period of Yi Dynasty. For the study of library histories of Korea, particularly the libraries of high learning institutions the Jon Gyung Gak library acquires a greater importance. The collection of Jon Gyung Gak consisted mainly of Chinese classics such as the works of Confucius, Mencius, or the books about histories which were the textbooks of students in those days. But the books about Laoism or Buddhism were strictly forbiddened, and also books like medicine or agriculture pertaining to technical sciences were disregarded. The Jon Gyung Gak was destroyed by fire in 1514 and suffered severely again by the 1m Chin War in 1590's, but the library had been made constant efforts to maintain its collections for the performance of educational functions. This paper gives special emphasis to analyzing the collection of Jon Gyung Gak by its chronological order.

  • The comparative studies Were conducted with respect to the artificial spawning early embryonic development, metamorphosis and growth of two species Meretrix lusoria and Cyclina sinensis collected from Inchon, Anmyon island and Buan areas from 1969 to 1974. The highest rate of artificial spawning of M. lusoria, which treated with a dilute ammoniun hydroxide(4/100-5/100N)-seawater solutions, was $25.0-33.3\%$, whereas in C. sinensis the rate of spawning was lower than that of M, lusoria under the similar experimental conditions$(12.5-19.0\%)$. However, the rate of artificial spawning of C. sinensis increased $40\%$ by repeated thermal stimulation. The rate of artificial fertilization of M. lusoria and C. sinensis showed highest value from those individuals which were treated with 1/1000N $NH_4OH$ solution. Their fertilized eggs, then, showed a normal development in the 1/1000N $NH_4OH$ solution. In the early embryonic development of M. lusoria and C. sinensis, the appearance of each of polar body, trochophore and D-shaped veliger were observed around 50min. 5-6 hours, and 23 hours after artificial fertilization respectively. The larval shell lengths of M. lusoria reached to $109,5{\pm}0.7\mu,\;144.6{\pm}1.3\mu$ and $208.0{\pm}0.0\mu$ around, 1, 11 and 20 days, after fertilization respectively. The larval shell lengths of C. sinensis reached to $110.5{\pm}0.6\mu,\;147.8{\pm}1.7\mu,\;and\;235.0{\pm}0.0\mu$ around 1, 10 ana 20 days, after fertilization respectively. The correlations of relative growth rate between the shell length(L) and sell height(H) found by the following simple formula from D-shaped veliger to metamorphosing stage. H=0.77L+6.82 for M. lusoria H=0.75L+8.50 for C. sinensis.

  • This study investigated the growth characteristics of juvenile abalone when has been rearing as other different feed rates by the commercial abalone formulated feed on indoor tank, during the winter period that was maintaining on the low water temperature. Experimental abalones were use to 1 year old (shell length $29.14{\pm}2.56mm$, wet weight $2.9{\pm}0.6g$), and it has cultured at six feeding rate groups (0.75 DFW, 1.50 DFW, 2.25 DFW, 3.00 DFW, 3.75 DFW, 4.5 DFW) that were set up the daily feeding rate about total weight (DFW), and two replicated. The average water temperature in the experiment period was $9.7{\pm}3.27^{\circ}C$. In the monthly change absolute growth rate (AGRSL) and specific growth (SGRSL) of shell length, at January, 3.00 DFW was significantly higher than all feeding rate groups (P < 0.05). And in the monthly change of weight change and weight gain (WG), at March, 3.75DFW was significantly higher than all feeing rate groups (P < 0.05). The growth coefficient of thermal units (TGC) was decreased rapid since January, and 3.75 DFW was show significantly higher than all feeding rate groups (P < 0.05). In monthly change of feed efficiency (FE), at December, the 0.75 DFW was significantly higher than all feeding rate groups (P < 0.05), and in February and March, there was no significant difference between all feeding period. Therefore, In this study, was show that juvenile abalones can do to maintain or increasing from weight to supply commercial artificial diet during winter period when rearing into the indoor tank.

  • The effect of different feeding rate on the growth and survival rate of the abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, were investigated in marine net cage culture and indoor tank culture. Feeding rate is determined that was fed 5, 10, 15 and 20 percentage to abalone at body weight once daily : 5 daily feeding rate (DFR), 10DFR, 15DFR and 20DFR. After that, it was conducted to reared during thirteen month with two replicates in net-cage culture and indoor tank culture. In the growth performance of reared abalone (initial mean shell length $54.18{\pm}7.39mm$) in net cage culture, that the absolute growth rate (ARG), daily growth rate (DGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) to the shell length and shell breadth, as well as weight gain (WG), daily weight gain (DWG) and specific weight gain (SWG) to body weight of 20DFR were lower than those of different groups (P < 0.05). Also, survival rates of 20DFR was lower than those of different groups (P < 0.05). In the growth performance of reared abalone (initial mean shell length $49.70{\pm}2.28mm$) in indoor tank culture, that the ARG, DGR and SGR to the shell length and shell breadth, as well as WG, DWG and SWG to body weight of 5DFR and 10DFR were lower than those of different groups (P < 0.05). And also, survival rates of 20DFR was lower than those of different groups (P < 0.05). Therefore, these results is showed that the daily feeding rate for natural feed in net-cage culture and indoor tank culture should be to supply among 5-10 percents, taking into account growth, survival rate and economical efficiency.

  • This study was conduct to investigate the effect of Intermediate culture types on the growth and survival rate of the abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, in net cage and indoor tank. Intermediate cultures were to determine there that was to setting at marine net cage culture (NCC) in net cage, floor culture (FC), net floor culture (NFC), double shelter culture (DSC) and indoor net cage culture (INCC) in indoor tank, in two replicate. In the growth performance of juvenile abalone reared through intermediate culture, that the absolute growth rate ($AGR_{SL}$, $AGR_{SB}$), daily growth rate ($DGR_{SL}$, $DGR_{SB}$), and specific growth rate ($SGR_{SL}$, $SGR_{SB}$) to the shell length $(_{SL})$ and shell breadth $(_{SB})$ of NCC were higher than those of different groups (P < 0.05). As weight gain (WG), daily weight gain (DWG) and specific weight gain (SWG) to body weight through intermediate culture types in indoor tank was not significant. Also that, survival rate among experimental groups of intermediate culture in indoor tank was not significant. Therefore, these results is showed that should to cultivate for net cage so that intermediate culture of juvenile abalone over 2 cm, accordingly research to effective progress of juvenile abalone intermediate culture in indoor tank be should from various reason as well as feed and rearing condition.

  • Monthly variation of fatness index of the shortnecked clam was investigated at Moonhangri in Namhaedo of the southern coast of Korea from April 1991 to March 1992. The standing crops of umbo stage larvae and spats of this bivalve were also investigated. The results are as follows: The ranges of a monthly average water temperature and salinity were $6.9\~23.5^{\circ}C$ and $29.6\~33.1%o$ during the investigation period. Fatness index of the shortnecked clam decreased suddenly from June to September, which seemed to be spawning season. The umbo stage larvae of the clam were observed from May to November. The standing crops of the larvae were $883\;inds./m^3$ in August and$68\;inds./m^3$ in November. The observed number per ~ of the spats varied with the month and the different exposure time zones. The highest density $(1,508\;inds./m^3)$ was observed 1 hour exposure zone in August, and the lowest one $(28 inds./m^3)$ at 1 hour exposure station in April. Even the observed number of the spats below 4 mm in shell length were high in 1 and 3 hour exposure zones, the spats above 4 mm in shell length were observed mainly at 3 hour exposure zone.
