  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the burden and quality of life among family caregivers of terminal cancer patients and the relationship of these variables. Methods: Data were collected from 80 family caregivers and analyzed using SPSS 19.0 program. Results: Burden was found to have significant relationships with age, marriage, relations with patients, living together with patients and medical expense burden(p<.05). Quality of life was found to have significant differences according to age, marriage, educational background, relations with patients and living together with patients(p<.05). Burden and quality of life showed a negative correlation(r=-.538, p<.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that more attentions and interventions such as support programs should be given to family caregivers of terminal cancer patients, which can decrease the burden of family caregivers to enhance their quality of life.

Mean of monthly income of normal subjects was significantly higher than those of cerebrovasndar disease families(normal: $673, 000\pm$ 187, 000 won, cerebrovascular: $483, 000\pm213, 000$ won). • The purpose of the study is to investigate kinds of social support provided by various types of family members, relationships between types of family support and personal variables of the elderly and structural variables of the family network, and the relationships between family support and depression of the elderly. Here, family included a spouse, sons and daughters and their spouses, grandchildren, siblings and parents of an older person. Social support consisted of emotional, instrumental, financial help and social companionship. Two-hundred-eight older persons of age 60 years and over were interviewed. The main results of the study were as follows: an older person's spouse tended to provide more for emotional support, sons for financial help, daughters-in-law for instrumental support, and daughters for emotional and financial support. Some elderly were also provided for emotional support by parents and siblings. Possibility of daughters-in-laws and grandchildren as support providers was also verified. Various factors among personal and network-structural characteristics were significantly related to many types of social support provided by various types of family members. In general, while younger female elders, elders with good IADL ability or more frequent contacts with family members tended to have social support from more family members, support from daughters-in-law was provided to the elderly with less functional abilities. Various types of social support from a spouse were significantly related to depression level of the elderly. Their depression level was more related to whether or not sons and daughters-in-law exist rather than whether or not they provide social support. Practical methods to increase family support for the elderly were discussed.

  • The study investigates the impact of family ownership heterogeneity on the internationalization decisions of family-owned enterprises from ICT sectors in South Korea. The study uses prospect theory to explore the relationship between ownership structure and internationalization. The study finds that as performance improves, the ultimate owner (CEO) is negatively related to internationalization, while other family members are positively related, demonstrating the heterogeneous behavior of family members. The study suggests that the ultimate owner (CEO) tends to avoid risks associated with internationalization, while other family members are willing to take risks. To better understand the various risk behaviors of family firms regarding internationalization, the inherent heterogeneity of family firms, particularly in light of different risk behaviors between the ultimate owner (CEO) and other family members, may explain the inconsistent results in studies on the effect of family ownership on internationalization.

  • This study is to demonstrate the effects of working hour on the workers' subjective well-being. Working hour, in this study, means working time per a day and the generosity of weekly holiday. Firstly, the effects of working hour on the worker's well-being will be analyzed. Secondly, it will be investigated if the effects of working hour on the worker's well-being change according to the existence of the family member who needs care. The results of the analysis show that longer working hour and the lower generosity of weekly holiday decrease workers' well being. If workers have family member who needs care, the effects of working hour and the generosity of weekly holiday on the worker's well-being are not significant. It contrasts to the result that women are more satisfactory to their lives than men in cases they don't have family member who needs care. It is supposed that these results are closely related with the enormous gender gap of care time in Korea.

  • This was a descriptive study clarifying the factors affecting family caregivers' sense of well-being. This study was conducted with 131 caregivers using structured self-reporting questionnaires and directly interviewing adult patients who had been under treatment in two general hospitals. The hospitals were located in M city from Aug. 10, 2000 until Sep. 2, 2000. The collected data were analyzed using SAS PC+ program, and the data were tested using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The results of this study are as follows; 1) The variables affecting the caregivers' sense of burden were age (F=3.76, p=.0063), education level (F=4.67, p=.0015), monthly income (F=2.49, p=.0466), amount of assistance provided (F=4.19, p=.0037), and the relationship with patient before disease (F=9.49, p=.0001). 2) The variables affecting caregivers' sense of well-being were age (F=9.54, p=.0001), residing with patient (t=11.38, p=.0010), the period of caregiving (F=10.52, p= .0001), education level (F= 2.79, p=.0290), monthly income (F=3.04, p=.0196), and relationship with patient before disease (F= 10.51, p=.0001). Also, all of the variables which showed statistical significance. 3) In viewing the relationship between activities of daily living (ADL) and the senses of burden and well-being, a negative relation- ship between activities of daily living (ADL) and a sense of burden was found (r=-.640, p=.000). However, the relationship between activities of daily living (ADL) and a sense of well-being had a positive correlation (r= .232, p=.008). Also the relationship between the sense of burden and the sense of well-being was revealed to have a negative correlation (r=-.614, p=.000). 4) A sense of burden was the most important indicator to the well-being of the caregivers who took care of stroke patients (R2 =.36). In addition to this, living with the patient (45%), activities of daily living (51%), relationship with patient before disease (53%), and the family's monthly income accounted for 56% of the sense of well-being of the caregivers.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing family caregivers' reaction of persons with cancer. The study participants were 130 cancer patients and their family caregivers. Data on participant characteristics, caregiver reaction, perceived social support, and cancer related health literacy were collected from July 17 to November 7, 2018 using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed with the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program for descriptive statistics, using independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient and enter multiple regression analysis. The determining factors affecting caregivers' reaction were in case of spouse of patient(${\beta}=.252$, p=.002), subjective health status(${\beta}=-.207$ p=.012), and health literacy (self-care, patient's needs and preference) (${\beta}=-.411$, p<.001; ${\beta}=.247$, p=.037 respectively), and their explanation power was about 37.9%. This finding underscores the need for developing and application of the individualized education program with health literacy improvement strategies for family caregivers of cancer patients.
