  • The purpose of this study was to compare the kinds of plays and the meanings of words in play songs among children of Han heritage. A total of three data sets were used. Data for two of the data sets were obtained from only South Korean children in 1990 and 2005, respectively, while the other data set contained responses from South Korean, Chinese Korean, and North Korean children collected in 1999. The three societies of Han heritage differed in the level of economic and industrial development and ideological orientation, and each society tended to socialize and educate their children in different ways. The kind of plays and the lyrics of the play songs were different in each stage by the level of economic and industrial development, and ideological orientation. In each society, a dominant play changed periodically. For instance, physical play decreased while television, video, and internet game plays increased. The increase in internet game play was related to the level of industrial development. Although three groups shared some common play songs prior to 1945, they have developed their own play songs after 1945 according to their respective social ideological characteristics. Notwithstanding these differences in play songs, common themes, materials, rhythms, and the Korean emotionality exist across all groups.

  • Through a literature review, this study examined the concept of slow learners and the lifelong learning characteristics of slow learners, and sought ways to achieve successful lifelong learning by utilizing grit and growth mindset among non-cognitive characteristics. Slow learners were experiencing difficulties in cognitive, academic, linguistic, social and emotional, and behavioral characteristics. For successful lifelong learning of slow learners, it was necessary to set long-term goals rather than short-term goals and to maintain effort and consistency of interest to achieve the goals. In addition, it was confirmed that in order to achieve long-term goals, it is necessary to believe that change can be achieved through effort and learning. In other words, the need for learning using grit and growth mindset was confirmed. Based on these previous research results, it was presented as a lifelong learning strategy for slow learners that applied grit and growth mindset, which are non-cognitive characteristics, rather than cognitive characteristics such as intelligence.

  • In philosophy of Kant, Fichte, and Hegel, there is a tension between an idea of universal human equality and gender equality. Kant's philosophy is considered to have completed the idea of enlightenment but full of contradiction because there is no concept of woman in it. In the case of Fichte, unlike Kant, there are positive aspects in understanding the woman. However, these aspects are cancelled out by the way he assigns too high a value to the man. In Hegel, there remains the philosophical idea of Kant and Fichte, who discriminated women and separated women from the public world. Furthermore, there is only a scanty place for women in his concept of 'Geist' that is directed toward the denial of the existing order and the change of the world. Without considering such theoretical tensions, Kant's, Fichte's and Hegel's philosophical ideas (such as universal human rights, universal principles of human being, universal freedom and independence and autonomy of human being, public liberty, humanity, mutual recognition, free and equal citizens, dignity, morality or moral obligation, public use of reason, common legislation, world citizens, etc.) cannot be critically grasped.

  • This study uses the narrative inquiry method to understand experiences of growing up of children in a special environment of alcoholic family. To that end, this study discovers the three subjects who said they had experienced damage and growth in a family of alcoholics by using the narrative inquiry method (Clarindinin and Connelly, 2000). As a results of this study, their damage includes 'suffering from drinking habits', 'family falling apart', and 'social isolation' while growth experiences include 'drivers of change and growth', 'spiritual growth' and 'pursuit of altruistic life pursuit' Simply put, the growth experiences of children with alcoholic parents were found to be in physical, mental, family relationships, social, and spiritual growth by overcoming the suffering and limitations of life brought by alcohol abuse in the family. This study is significantly meaningful in that it broadened research horizons beyond existing studies on children of alcoholic parents. In addition, this study is expected to be used as basic data to suggest social welfare policies and practices that can promote the growth of children with alcohol parents.

  • Intestinal histopathological changes due to infection with Echinostcma hortense (Trematoda) were studied in rats after experimental infection with the metacercariae. The metacercariae were obtained from the tadpoles of Rana nigrcmaculata, a second intermediate host infected in the laboratory. Total 18 albino rats(Sprague-Dawley) were given 200 matacercariae each and sacrificed on the day 1, 3, 7, 11, 22 or 44 post-infection(PI) Segments of- the small intestine at 1, 3, 5, 8 and 30 cm posterior to the pylorus(PTP) were rejected and studied histopathologically. 1. The flukes were seen to have intruded into the intervillous space in the upper small intestine at early stages(1∼3 days PI), however, they were located mainly in the intestinal lumen at later stages(7∼44 days PI) . The flukes were sucking and destroying the epithelial layers of villi with their oral and ventral suckers. 2. Histopathological changes of the intestine were recognizable in as early as 1∼3 days after infection, and the changes became severer as the infection progressed. 3. The intestinal mucosa was histopathologically characterized by villous atrophy and crypt hyperplasia throughout the infection period. Major villous changes were blunting, fusion, severe destruction and loss of epithelial layers of villi. Villous/crypt(V/C) height ratio was remarkably reduced from 3 : 1 in controls to 1 : 1 in severely infected animals. In the stroma of villi, inaamma- tory cell infiltrations, vascular congestion, edema, and/or fibrosis were recognized. The goblet cells were increased in number after 11 days PI. It was revealed in the present study that the pathological changes in the intestine of rats infected with E. hortense were chieay confined to the mucosal layer of the upper small intestine, however, the changes were very severe accompanying remarkable destruction of villi and loss of mucosal integrity, and persistent until 44 days PI.

  • Forage breeding laboratory of National Livestock Research Institute, R.D.A. has made interspecific hybrids of Lolium multiflorum $\times$ L. pratensis and intergeneric hybrids of Lolium $\times$ Festuca since 1984, and has collected ecotypes of Italian ryegrass since 1991. Growth characteristics of these hybrids and ecotypes were researched, and then these clone lines were named. Among these clone lines, the several clones that have polen fertility, high cold-tolerance, and similar heading time were used for making synthetics, Naehan 6, 7, 8, 9, with polycrossing method in 1997. Field experiments were carried out to compare the mophological and agronomical characteristics and forage productivity and quality of the synthetics with those of Italian ryegrass varieties, Barmultra and Hwasan 101. in Suwon and Yonchun from 1999 to 2000. Heading time of the synthetics were 22th to 24th May that belong to late-mature types to be similar to that of Barmultra and Hwasan 101 in Suwon. The synthetics were 101 to 106 c3n in plant length, medium or thick in thickness of stem, dark peen in leaf color, broad and long in flag leaf, strong in lodging resistance, and excellent in regrowth. Winter survivals of the synthetics were no different from that of Barmultra or Hwasan 101 in Suwon, but better than that of Barmultra or Hwasan 101 in Yonchun where was -10 to -12$^{\circ}C$ of minimum average air temperature in January or February. Dry matter(DM) yields of the synthetics were similar to DM 8,238kg per ha of Barmultra in Suwon, but in Yonchun, were more 7 to 13% than DM 7,291kg per ha of Barmultra. Forage qualities, IVDMD, ADF, NDF and TDN of the synthetics were lower than those of Hwasan 101, but higher than those of Barmultra.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the night eating habits of middle schoolers. A total of 705 middle school students residing in Gyeonggi were surveyed about their dietary habits related to night eating. Among the total subjects, 59.9% (n=422) had night eating more than once a week and were classified into a night eating group (NEG). The main reason for night eating was hunger (79.1% of NEG) and the highest proportion of night eating was related to food purchased by family (39.3% of NEG). Most of the NEG had night eating in their home with family members, and the time with highest frequency of night eating was between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.. About 33% of the NEG went to bed within an hour after night eating and 69.2% of the NEG did not report any change after night eating. The most common factors considered when choosing a night eating menu, in order of frequency, were taste, hygiene, and amount. The favorite items on the night eating menu were frozen desserts, fresh fruits, chicken, fruit juice, Ramen, pizza, and Jajangmyeon. The most frequent menu choices were fresh fruits, frozen desserts, Ramen, chicken, yogurt, and fruit juice. The NEG had higher scores for picky eating (P<0.01), overeating (P<0.01), salty eating (P<0.01), and irregular meal times (P<0.001) compared to the non-NEG. Consequently, the NEG had more dietary problems than the non-NEG and their night eating behaviors were related to family habits. Night eating was mainly dominated by a diet of carbohydrates and fats, and the intake frequency and preference for foods with low nutritional value were high; thus, a practical and systematical nutrition education is required. Seasonal and comparative studies on night eating status according to various times and amounts of night eating are also required.
