A Study on Cast Structure and Mechanical Properties of Al-10% Mg Alloy Solidified Under High Hydraulic Pressure (고압주조한 Al-10% Mg 합금의 주조조직 및 기계적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • In order to study the cast structure and mechanical properties of Al-10 % Mg alloy solidified under the various high hydraulic pressure, ranging from $0kgf/cm^2$ to $2000㎏f/cm^2$ , the relationship between the cooling rate and the cast structure was observed, and also the mechanical test and the measurement of the specific gravity were carried out. From this experiment, results were summerized as follows; 1. The cooling rate of the alloy increased with increase of the applied pressure. 2. The formation of the piping and the porosity in the castings was surpressed by applying the high hydraulic pressure. 3. The dendrite arm spacing decreased with increase of the applied pressure. 4. Mechanical properties and specific gravity increased with the increase of the applied pressure.

  • 기존의 장신구 은제품은 무르고 주조공정 특유의 미세한 표면결함을 가져서 착웅 중 쉽게 변색되는 문제가 있었다. 본 연구에서는 내식성을 향상시키기 위해 $92.5\%Ag-6.5\%Cu-1\%Zn$의 삼원계 은합금을 기초 소재로 해서 반지장신구를 상정하여 기존의 주조공정으로 대략의 형태를 만들고 금형과 유압프레스로 성형 가압시켜서 적극적으로 주조 시에 발생한 미세기공을 제거하고 결정립을 미세화하여 표면경도와 밀도를 향상시켰다. 선반가공과 미세연마를 실시하여 내식성이 향상된 표면과 기존 주조공정에 비해 3배 이상 향상된 경도를 가져서 스프링백 효과에 의해 귀보석을 세팅할 수 있는 개선된 텐션형 은장신구 공정을 개발하였고 이때의 최적 성형 정도를 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구는 주조성, 내압성, 내열성 등이 우수하여 군용 및 민수용 기계소재로 이용되고 있는 AI-Si-Mg계 AC4C 합금에 세라믹(AI2O3, AI2O3-TiC)을 강화시키는 복합재료제조에 관한 기초연구의 일환으로 수행하였다. 연구내용은 세라믹 강화재의 젖음성을 높이기 위하여 수소환원법에 의한 AI2O3입자의 Ni 피복과 기존의 프리폰 제조방법보다 간단하고 경제적인 자전연소합성법에 의해 AI2O3-TiC 다공성 pellet을 제조하여, 이들 강화재와 AC4C 기지금속을 이용하여 고대-compocasting 및 squeeze casting법으로 복합재료를 제조하고 미세조직, 계면생성물, 기계적 성질, 내마멸성 등의 특성을 조사하였다. 고대-compocasting법에 의해 제조된 AI2O3Ni 입자 강화 복합재료에서 강화재들은 응집체로 존재하지 않고 비교적 균일하게 분산되었고 AI2O3-TiC 강화재를 이용하여 squeeze casting으로 가압주조 하므로써 기지금속과 강화재의 젖음성이 향상되었다.

  • Misch metal (rare earth element, Ce, La, Nd, Pr) which has large influence on high-temperature stability and toughness was added to the Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy, and squeeze casting was used for Al-5%Ni-5%Mg-(Mm) alloys. The effect of applied pressure and misch metal additions on mechanical properties in Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy by direct squeeze casting has been investigated. The applied pressure were 0 MPa(gravity casting), 25, 50 and 75 MPa. Squeeze-cast Al-5%Ni-5%Mg-(Mm) alloys had better mechanical properties than those of non-pressurized cast alloys because of the increased cooling rate by the application of pressure during solidification. By the addition of misch metal in Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy, better combination of strength and elongation was obtained. The addition of 0.3%Mm in Al-5%Ni-5%Mg alloy improved the heat resistant property due to the formation of fine eutectic phases.

  • Effects of process parameters during thixocasting, such as solid volume fraction, mold temperature and extrusion ratio, on the mold filling behaviour and fluidity of Mg alloy(AZ91D) have been investigated. The semi-solid ingot held for 60 minutes at the semi-solid temperature range did not contain the equilibrium volume fraction of solid as expected from the phase diagram. Therefore, in order to obtain the desired solid fractions, and to suppress the exaggerated grain growth during heating, it was required to heat the ingot rapidly up to the temperature $10^{\circ}C$ higher than the semi-solid temperature suggested from the phase diagram for a specific volume fraction of solid. The experimental results show that mold filling behaviour and fluidity can be improved with the use of the higher mold temperature and the lower volume fraction of solid, but remain nearly unaffected by the change of extrusion ratio.
