Experimental Study on Natural Gas Conversion Vehicle(2) - Evaluation of Injection System (천연가스 개조 승용차에 대한 실험적 연구(2) - 분사 시스템 평가)

  • In the previous study, several problems were observed in a NG conversion vehicle, which were fail of air-fuel ratio closed loop control, aggravated fuel economy, increased harmful emission and declined roadability. It was provisionally supposed that the mismatch of injection system with the engine caused these performance deterioration. In this context, the characteristics of fuel injection system of commercial conversion kit for NG were investigated experimentally varying the engine speed, fuel rail pressure and volume. The results are as follows; The injection quantity decreases as the engine speed increases due to the extremely small rail volume of the presenting system and flow rate of No. 2 injector are always lower than that of the other ones regardless of the speed under the dynamic operation condition. Furthermore the existing system does not meet the required fuel quantity for the normal engine operation over 3000 RPM. On the other hands, the large rail volume systems ease and/or eliminate the difference of injection quantity between the injectors according to the speed variation, however, these systems decrease injection flow rate and still cannot supply sufficient fuel. Finally, suitable combination of the higher rail pressure and the larger rail volume might be a solution about these problems.

  • Liquefied petroleum gas is regarded as a promising alternative fuel as it is eco-friendly, has good energy efficiency and output performance, practically and has high cost competitiveness over competing fuels. In spark-ignition engine, direct injection technology improves engine volumetric efficiency apparently and operates engine using the stratified charge that has relatively higher combustion efficiency. This study designed a combustion chamber equipped with visualization system by applying gasoline direct injection engine principle. In doing so, the study recorded and analyzed ignition probability and flame propagation process of spark-ignited direct injection LPG in a digital way. The result can contribute as a basic resource widespread for spark-ignited direct injection LPG engine design and optimization extensively.

  • An experimental study was performed to understand ignition characteristics of gas turbine combustor with rotating fuel injection system. Liquid fuel applied to the inner surface of rotating fuel nozzle which was driven by high speed electrical motor is flung away by centrifugal forces. The real scale combustor and test rig was manufactured and tested under atmospheric condition in KARl combustion test facility. From the test results, this combustor ignition characteristics are highly dependent upon fuel nozzle rotating speed. Futhermore, combustor exit gas temperature was rapidly changed by increasing or decreasing the fuel nozzle rotating speed.

  • Two-stage light gas gun, sorted with Ballistic Range System, is used to research spray characteristics of supersonic liquid jets. When high pressure tube was pressurized to the 135 bar, diaphragm films which composed with OHP film are ruptured. Expansion gases accelerate a projectile approximately 250 m/s at the exit of pump tube. And accelerated projectile collides with liquid storage part and liquid jets were injected into supersonic conditions. Supersonic liquid jets show the multiple jets and generate shockwave at the forward region of jets. Supersonic liquid jets of speed and shockwave angle have different value at each case. Supersonic liquid jets with minimum velocities are injected with M=1.53 at the geometry condition of L/d=23.8.

  • The performance test of recirculation line in propellant feeding system was carried out. Liquid oxygen was used as cryogenic propellant and helium was used as recirculation promotion gas. Tests were done in cases at atmospheric pressure and at pressure of 4 barg in the ullage space of propellant tank. Liquid oxygen recirculation flowrate with helium injection flowrate and temperature distribution along the line were measured. There was appropriate helium injection flowrate for gas-lift recirculation system. Test data were used to make calculation program by test data correlation method. In this paper the procedure of calculation was presented and the results were compared to test data.

  • Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is widely used as a method of removing nitrogen oxide in large-capacity thermal power generation systems. Uniform mixing of the injected ammonia and the inlet flue gas is very important to the performance of the denitrification reduction process in the catalyst bed. In the present study, a computational analysis technique was applied to the ammonia injection system design process of a denitrification facility. The applied model is the denitrification facility of an 800 MW class coal-fired power plant currently in operation. The flow field to be solved ranges from the inlet of the ammonia injection system to the end of the catalyst bed. The flow was analyzed in the two-dimensional domain assuming incompressible. The steady-state turbulent flow was solved with the commercial software named ANSYS-Fluent. The nozzle arrangement gap and injection flow rate in the ammonia injection system were chosen as the design parameters. A total of four (4) cases were simulated and compared. The root mean square of the NH3/NO molar ratio at the inlet of the catalyst layer was chosen as the optimization parameter and the design of the experiment was used as the base of the optimization algorithm. The case where the nozzle pitch and flow rate were adjusted at the same time was the best in terms of flow uniformity.

  • A urea-SCR system suffers from some issues associated with the ammonia slip phenomenon, which mainly occurs because of the shortage of evaporation and thermolysis time, and this makes it difficult to achieve an uniform distribution of injected urea. A numerical study was therefore performed by changing such various parameters as installed injector angle and application and angle of mixer to enhance evaporation and the mixing of urea water solution with exhaust gases. As a result, various parameters were found to affect the evaporation and mixing characteristics between exhaust gas and urea water solution, and their optimization is required. Finally, useful guidelines were suggested to achieve the optimum design of a urea-SCR injection system for improving the DeNOx performance and reducing ammonia slip.

Heavy Oil Combustion Characteristics of the Hot Water Boiler System fueled by Rice Husk and Heavy Oil (왕겨와 중유연료를 겸용으로 이용하는 온수보일러 시스템에서 중유 연소특성)

  • 본 연구에서는 가연성 폐기물을 이용한 시설원예 난방에너지 공급시스템 개발을 위하여 대형 온실 난방이나 RPC 시설에 이용할 수 있는 왕겨와 중유 겸용연소 시스템에서 중유의 연소 및 성능 특성을 분석하고자 하였다. 중요 인자로는 분사노즐의 크기(2.0, 2.25, 2.5, 3.0 GPH)와 진공압력(375, 500, 625, 750 Pa)을 설정하였으며 이에 대한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1.진공압력 500Pa조건에서 연료 공급율이 증가할수록 연소실 벽체 열교환기 효율은 감소하고 폐열회수 열교환기와 사이클론 열교환기의 효율이 증가하였으며, 노즐 2.5GPH에서 진공압력이 커질수록 연소실 하부의 온도가 감소하였고 연소실 상부에서는 비슷한 경향을 보였다. 2, 연소온도특성, 열효율, 배기가스 성분분석 등의 결과로 볼 때 최적의 연소 조건은 노즐 2.5GPH는 진공압력 375Pa, 노즐3.0GPH는 진공압력 500Pa과 625Pa 사이로 판단되었다. 3. 배연가스내의 대기오염 성분은 모든 실험처리에서 CO 함량은 거의 없고 SO$_2$와 NO$_{x}$의 함량 또한 일반 보일러 허용기준을 만족하는 것으로 나타났다.

비활성 가스제너레이터 성능분석

  • 비활성 가스제너레이터는 가스터빈 추진기관 및 기타 열기관을 이용하여 연소가 되지 않는 저온의 공기를 생산하는 기계장치를 말하며 이러한 저온의 비활성 기체를 화재 지역에 분사하는 경우 기존의 소방수를 이용한 화재 진압방식보다 매우 효율적으로 화재진압에 사용되어 질 수 있다. 일반적으로 민항기 등의 가스터빈 추진 기관에서 배기되는 기체내에는 터빈입구온도(TIT : Turbine Inlet Temperature)및 초과공기지수(Excess Air Coefficient)에 따라 다르게 나타나지만 TIT가 1500$^{\circ}$K인 경우 약 13-14%정도의 산소가 잔존하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 가스터빈 및 열교환 시스템 그리고 터빈 1단 등의 시스템 조합율을 통하여 대기 중의 기체의 온도를 영하 2$0^{\circ}C$ 및 산소함유량을 약 5%수준까지 낮춤으로서 이를 대형 화재 진압에 사용하기 위한 연구이다. 비활성 가스제너레이터에 사용하는 연료로는 Kerosene 및 CNG(Compressed Natural Gas)등이 사용될 수 있으며, 유량이 8.1kg/sec인 터보축 가스터빈 엔진을 사용하는 경우 18750㎥ 부피의 비활성기체를 생산하는데 Kerosene 연료가 약 1톤(200$ 이하)이 필요한 것으로 계산되며 이에 소요되는 시간도 약 52분에 지나지 않는 것으로 계산되었다. 만일 50kg/sec의 보다 큰 가스터빈 엔진을 사용하는 경우 약 9분 정도가 필요한 것으로 계산되었다. 사용되는 가스터빈은 압축비가 15, 열교환기의 효율이 $\varepsilon$=0. 그리고 최종 터빈 1단의 팽창비가 1.25가 적합한 것으로 계산된다. 연구 분석 결과 기술적 문제점으로는 배기 가스온도가 낮은데 따른 출구 부분의 Bearing, Sealing이 문제가 될 수 있다고 판단되며 배기 가스 자체에 대기 공기중에 함유되어 있던 습기가 얼어붙는(Icing화) 문제가 발생하기 때문에 배기가스의 Icing을 방지하기 위하여 압축기 끝단에서 공기를 추출하여 배기부분에 송출할 필요성이 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 출구가스의 기체 유동속도가 매우 빠르므로 (100-l10m.sec) 이를 완화하기 위한 디퓨저의 설계가 요구된다고 판단된다. 또 연소기 후방에 물을 주입하는 경우 열교환기 및 기타 부분품에 발생할 수 있는 부식 및 열교환 효율 저하도 간과할 수 없는 문제로 파악되었다. 이러한 기술적 문제가 적절히 해결되는 경우 비활성 가스 제너레이터는 민수용으로는 대형 빌딩, 산림, 유조선 등의 화재에 매우 적절히 사용되어 질 수 있을 뿐 아니라 군사적으로도 군사작전 중 및 공군 기지의 화재 그리고 지하벙커에 설치되어 있는 고급 첨단 군사 장비 등의 화재 뿐 아니라 대간첩작전 등에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Conceptual Design of the Fuel Injection Valve Tester for ME-LGI Marine Engine by Using System Engineering (ME-LGI 선박엔진용 연료분사밸브 테스터 개발을 위한 시스템 엔지니어링 기반 개념 설계)

  • As environmental regulations have been strengthened and high fuel efficiency has been in demand in recent years, the number of ships using natural gas as a fuel is increasing. The demand for ships using LPG or methanol, which are emerging as eco-friendly vessel fuels, is also increasing. In this perspective, ME-LGI engines using LPG or methanol as a fuel have attracted considerable attention. Ships equipped with an ME-LGI engine are required to check the reliability of the fuel injection valve during shipping. This means that the development of a fuel injection valve tester is essential for the commercialization of ME-LGI engine. This study conducted the conceptual design of a fuel injection valve tester for ME-LGI engines using a system engineering process in the order of requirements analysis, functional analysis, and design synthesis. In the requirement analysis stage, the operating process of fuel injection valve was analyzed, and the necessity of checking the sealing oil leakage was then derived. In the functional analysis stage, the functions and flow of them were defined at each functional level. In the design synthesis stage, the equipment for each function was set and the process block diagram based on it was derived. In addition, preliminary risk analysis was performed as a part of system analysis and control, and safety measures were added to the conceptual design. This study is expected to be a good reference material for the concept design of other systems in the future because it shows the application process of a system engineering process to the conceptual design in detail.
