  • When a liquid rocket engine is started the oxidizer and fuel must be flowed into combustion chamber and gas generator with time differences. The wrong time difference between propellants or malfunction of ignition device can occur the explosion of combustion chamber due to detonation by energized premixed-propellants. Therefore it is important to observe the transient characteristic of propellants or to measure the inflow time of propellants into combustion chamber and gas generator. The measurement of static pressure is not enough to observe the propellants inflow time into combustion chamber and gas generator. By measuring dynamic pressure of main flow passage of propellants the accurate propellants inflow time could be investigated.

Fuel Rich Gas O/F Ratio Characteristics of HDPE and Paraffin Fuel in Low Range of the Oxidizer Mass Flux (저 산화제유속 구간에서의 HDPE 및 Paraffin 연료의 연료농후가스 O/F비 특성)

  • Multi-port HDPE and Paraffin firing tests are conducted for hybrid gas generator application of a ducted rocket in the low oxidizer mass flux range. A fuel rich gas of O/F ratio from 0.3 to 0.8, a typical O/F operating range of a ducted rocket gas generator, have been achieved with paraffin fuel implying that the hybrid system can be a potential candidate. It was also found that an almost constant O/F ratio regime exists under $35kg/m^2s$ of the oxidizer mass flux, opening a possibility for the paraffin fuel toward the VFDR gas generator application.

  • 본 논문에서는 액체로켓엔진에서 터보펌프의 160kW급 터빈을 구동하고, 액체산소와 케로신을 추진제로 사용하는 가스발생기의 설계점 연소성능시험 결과에 대해 논의하였다. 충돌형 F-O-F 인젝터, 물냉각 채널을 가진 연소실, torch ignitor, turbulence ring 그리고 측정 링을 갖는 가스발생기에 대해 기술하였고, 점화, 연소, 종료 등의 시험 cyclogram에 대해 언급하였다. 설계점에서의 연소시험 및 turbulence ring 장착여부, 연소실 길이 변화에 따른 연소시험의 결과들에 대해 기술하였다. 연소시험 결과 가스발생기는 설계점에서 안정된 작동성을 보여주었고, 연소압력 및 온도 등의 성능이 예측치에 근접하는 결과를 보여 주었다. Turbulence ring은 출구에서의 가스온도를 균일하게 분포시켜 효과적인 혼합 장치임을 보여 주었고, 4-6msec 정도에서의 잔류시간에서는 연소효율의 차이가 크지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 가스발생기 출구에서의 온도는 공급되는 추진제의 O/F ratio에 따라 매우 민감하게 반응함을 알 수 있었다.

  • In order to understand the operation characteristics and major design parameters of a dual combustion ramjet engine, a fundamental analysis model based on gasdynamics and thermodynamic theories was established. The preliminary performance analysis was accomplished and the results clearly describe the intimate relationship between air inlets, gas generator, and supersonic combustor. The methodology presented provides a means for quantitatively determining the geometries of the gas generator and supersonic combustor and assessing the effects on performance of each of the engine components. Also the design results for a basic configuration were provided.

  • 가스터빈용 희박 예혼합 연소기 내부에 와류 발생기(vortex generator)를 장착하여 그에 따른 연료/공기혼합 및 NOx 배출 특성 변화를 조사하였다. 이를 위해 수치해석적 방법을 채택하여 연소기내 유동특성, 연료/공기 혼합도, 배기가스(NOx), 화염형상을 분석하였다. 와류 발생기를 장착한 경우, 연소기 내부에서 와류 발생기에 의한 나사산 형상으로 인해 와류가 형성되며 이는 연소기 전면부까지 유지되었다. 또한 연소기 내부 면적 차로 인해 압력섭동이 발생하였다. 이와 더불어 연소기 전면부 기준 상류지역의 연료와 공기의 혼합도가 증가됨으로서 연료 과농지역이 감소하게 되며 이로 인해 전반적인 NOx 발생량의 감소 효과를 볼 수 있었다. 화염 형상의 변화로부터 와류 발생기의 영향으로 선회수는 다소 감소할 것으로 예상되며, 이는 와류 발생기로 인한 유속의 반복적 증감에 의한 결과라고 판단된다.

  • An experimental study on a fuel-rich gas generator was carried out. Thirty seven double-swirl injectors with recess number of 1.5 were distributed and installed in the injector head, which significantly influences the combustion performance. In the paper, the characteristics of combustion stability are inspected by the parametric varations such as changing length and diameter of a combustion chamber and installing a turbulence ring. The experimental results show that as a resonant frequency took place in a high region, the amplitude of the dynamic pressure generally diminished, however, the combustion instability could not be suppressed perfectly.

Development of a Ejection Gas Generator for Precluding Erosive Burning by Using Bundle Cylindrical Grains (침식연소가 방지되는 사출용 다발 원통형 그레인 가스발생기 개발)

  • An achieving method of highly progressive pressure gradient is presented to enhance the missile ejection system's performance by using a gas generator in the condition of preventing erosive burning. To obtain and confirm a stable burning, a ground burning test was performed to evaluate the new methods of a radial-hole and a multi-row propellant grain. The test results show that a radial-hole grain takes good effect on erosive burning and not on ejection performance. On the other hand, a multi-row grain which reduces the length-to-diameter ratio(L/D) of grain is very effective to prevent the erosive burning and to enhance the ejection performance simultaneously.

  • The propellant mixture ratio of gas generator changes when thrust control valve operate to change LRE thrust level. The mixture ratio change of gas generator result in gas temperature change and failure of turbine blade or deterioration of LRE specific impulse. The mixture ratio stabilizer has been developed to maintain propellant mixture ratio of gas generator. This article deals with design and static/dynamic characteristic of stabilizer. Also gas generator system simulation test has shown that the stabilizer can maintain propellant mixture ratio effectively within tolerable range.
