Replication Characteristics of Micropatterns According to Mold Temperature in Ultrasonic Imprinting (초음파 임프린팅에서 금형온도에 따른 미세패턴의 전사특성 연구)

  • Ultrasonic imprinting is a novel process for replicating micropatterns on thermoplastic polymer substrates with low energy consumption and short cycle time. The polymer substrate is softened by the frictional heat and repetitive deformation energy under ultrasonic excitation; thus, a number of micropatterns are replicated on the softened polymer substrate. In the present work, the effect of mold temperature on the replication characteristics of ultrasonic imprinting is investigated. The temperature change in the patterned region is measured by varying the mold temperature. Numerical simulation is then performed for investigating pattern replication characteristics under various mold temperatures. In addition, pattern replication ratio and uniformity are compared through various experimental measurements. Through the results of these comparisons, it is found that the mold temperature has a significant positive effect on the replication characteristics of ultrasonic imprinting.

Numerical Analysis for Separation of Carbon Dioxide by Hollow Fiber Membrane with Cocurrent Flow (병류흐름의 중공사 분리막에 의한 이산화탄소 분리 수치 해석)

  • A numerical analysis was carried out for separation of carbon dioxide from carbon dioxide/nitrogen gas mixture by a polyethersulfone hollow fiber membrane which has shown a good stability against plasticization by carbon dioxide and an excellent separation efficiency fur carbon dioxide from its gas mixture. A computer program for carbon dioxide separation was developed using the Compaq Visual Fortran 6.6 software. Governing module equations were thought to be an initial-value problem and the nonlinear ordinary differential equations were simultaneously solved using the Runge-Kutta-Verner fifth-order method. From results of numerical analysis, the carbon dioxide partial pressure of the feed stream, the pressure ratio of the feed side to the permeate side and the feed gas residence time at the inside of a membrane were found to be very important factors to affect the permeation characteristics of carbon dioxide.

Characterization of ion-conductive Behaviors for Crystalline/Amorphous Solid Polyether Electrolytes Using Supercritical $CO_2$ Fluid (초임계 이산화탄소 유체를 이용한 결정성/무정형 폴리에테르 전해질의 이온전도특성 연구)

  • The effect of the supercritical carbon dioxide (sc$CO_2$) on ion-conductive behaviors for polyether electrolytes based on, both poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly [oligo (oxyethylene glycol) methacrylate] (PMEO) with lithium triflate, LiCF$_3$SO$_3$, has been investigated. In particular, the present research is a new concept for improving the ionic conductivity of polyether electrolytes. The maximum ionic conductivity ($\sigma$$_{max}$) at room temperature of the PEO electrolyte was more than 100 times higher, and the $\sigma$$_{max}$ at 9$0^{\circ}C$ of the PMEO electrolyte was 30 times improved by the se$CO_2$ treatment, respectively. It was revealed that the penetration of $CO_2$ molecules into the polymer matrix causes the increase of carrier ions by ion-dispersion effect and the decrease of glass transition temperature (T$_{g}$) by plasticizing effect that results in the improvement of the ion transport behaviors.viors.

Shear Strength Property of Wood Treated by Steam Treatment at High Temperature (고온수증기처리 목재의 전단강도 특성)

  • This study deals with shear strength test for Pinus densiflora and Pinus radiata treated at above $100^{\circ}C$ by heat steam. Treatment conditions of this experiment were operated at regular intervals of $20^{\circ}C$ at temperatures up to $200^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 20 and 30 minutes by using the steam-explosion apparatus. It was examined, at high temperatures, degradation of some compounds from wood composition could lead to reduced the shear strength through heat steaming processes and play a large part in the plastic process of solid wood materials. It could be estimated that the shear strength of woods were gradually reduced by heat steaming time. Remarkable reduction of shear strength of woods was observed with increasing steaming temperatures above 10 minutes steaming time. Furthermore, this phenomenon shows a tendency to increase with higher temperatures. Therefore, it was considered that the softening by steaming treatment at high temperatures is necessary for the improvement on the wood processing ability.

  • Rheological properties of polyamide-modified poly(vinyl choride) (PVC)-sol sealants were investigated. PVC-sol was prepared by plasticization with dioctyl phthalate(DOP). Two kinds of polyamide rosins having different amino values and thus different viscosities were compared. The effects of the polyamide types and contents on the viscosities, thixotropic indices, and specific gravities of the PVC-sol were discussed. It was found that viscosities of the PVC-sol sealants were significantly affected by the types of the added polyamide resins, and the thixotropic index of the polyamide-modified PVC-sol sealant was observed to be dependent on the contents(not on the types of the polyamides). The viscosity behaviors of the polyamide-modified PVC-sol sealants aged at $45^{\circ}C$ and the effect of the addition of $CaCO_3$ were also discussed.

  • Using the post-consumer waste and edge scrap mixed PET with small amount PP air filter elements of automobiles. It was studied that these mixed waste plastics of the various types of the PET were practicable for the material recycling. Various waste PET/PP plastics were collected, crushed, dried in vacuum, and extruded to recycled PET/PP chips. These chips were mixed with three kinds compatibilizers, EVA, MBS, and recycled PVB of the ratio of $3{\sim}10wt.%$ for the purpose of the compatibility for the post-consumer waste and edge scrap. We investigated mechanical and thermal properties of PET/PP mixtures which were compound with the weight ratio of compatibilizers. Compatibilizer, MBS application was showed the most excellent mechanical properties in the range of the $3{\sim}5wt.%$ EVA application was displayed good impact strength and thermal property in the range of $3{\sim}5wt.%$ Last, recycled PVB application was showed poor mechanical properties in the whole range ratio of the PVB.

  • The mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties of polyamide-modified poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC)-sol was investigated. PVC-sol was plasticized with dioctyl phthalate (DOP). In this work, the effects of the addition of polyamide on the properties of PVC-sol seal-ants were investigated. Two kinds of polyamide resins having different amine value were used. It was found that the properties of the PVC-sol sealants were significantly affected by the contents and types of the added polyamide rosins. The PVC-sol sealants modified with polyamide A (low amino value) showed higher tensile properties than those modified with polyamide B(high amino value) did, and thermal stability of the sealants showed nearly the same trends. The tensile strength of sealants were decreased with increasing the $CaCO_3$ contents. The dielectric constant were not strongly dependent on the polyamide types and contents.

Separation Characteristics of Aqueous Isopropanol Solution by Pervaporation (투과증발에 의한 이소프로판올 수용액의 분리특성)

  • Pervaporation experiments of isopropanol-water mixtures through a polydimethytsiloxane(PDMS) membrane were carried out at 35$^{\circ}$C and the effect of isopropanol concentration on the separation characteristics was investigated. The total permeation rate showed the largest deviation from the ideal permeation rate at the isoprpanol volume fraction from 0.5 to 0.7, which resulted from the interaction effect between permeants. The plasticizing effect of isopropanol enhanced the permeation of water, while the existance of water resulted in the depression of isopropanol permeation. Both the permeation rate and the selectivity were predicted using Flory-Huggins thermodynamics and modified Maxwell-Stefan equation. The concentration-dependent diffusion coefficients were expressed by Vignes equation. The Flory-Huggins interaction parameter between isopropanol and water was calculated using excess Gibbs energy correlation and the interaction parameters between liquid and polymer membrane were determined by equilibrium swelling experiments. The predicted permeation rates were in accord with the experimental ones within maximum error range of 35 %. The predicted permeation selectivities were in good agreement with the experimental values.

  • Mushroom-based vegan meat has thus far been used as a food for humans instead of pets. However, based on its texture and nutritional content, it is considered suitable for processing into pet treats. In the present study, we developed a prototype dog chew with a sweetening coating added to a fungal mycelium mat obtained by culturing the Basidiomycetous fungus Trametes orientalis. The palatable coating applied to the mycelium mat by plasticizing the mat with glycerol improved the taste and aroma of the existing mat, and the dog consumed it without difficulty. Future improvements may include a softening process to reduce the chewiness level and a procedure to reduce the crude fiber content. Mycelium-mat-based dog chews, manufactured using eco-friendly materials and processes that are not harmful to the environment are expected to enter the market as eco-friendly alternatives to conventional pet treats. Controlling their physical properties require further study.

Intake, Digestibility, Nitrogen and Energy Utilization by Korean Native Goats Consuming Alfalfa and Birdsfoot Trefoil (Alfalfa와 Birdsfoot Trefoil의 급여가 산양의 섭취량, 소화율과 질소 및 에너지 이용성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to compare the DM intake, the digestibility, and the utilization of nitrogen and energy of Korean native goats, when fed on orchardgrass supplemented with alfalfa or birdsfoot trefoil. Experimental diets included three treatments: orchardgrass(OG) 100%, orchardgrass 6%+alfalfa(AA) 40%(OG+AA), and orchardgrass 60%+birdsfoot trefoil(BT) 40%(OG+BT). The CP content was higher for OG+AA and OG+BT diets than for OG diets(P<0.05). The NDF content was high in OG diets(P<0.05) and the lignin content was high in OG+BT diets(P<0.05), but the ADF content did not differ among all diets. The DM intake and the digestibility of OM and cellular constituents were higher for OG+AA diets than for OG diets(P<0.05), but the NDF and ADF digestibility were not significant difference among all diets. The apparently digested N was higher for OG+AA diets than for other diets(P<0.05). However, the retained N % and biological value were higher for OG+BT diets than for OG diets(P<0.05), but those were not differ between OG+AA and OG+BT diets. On the other hand, the utilization of DE and ME did not show the difference among all diets. Based on the results, the utilization of nitrogen and energy was more improved for legume supplemented diets(AA, BT) than for OG diets(P<0.05). Furthermore, the utilization of nitrogen was slightly more improved for OG+BT diets than for OG+AA diets, but the significantly difference was not observed.
