Realistic content such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality is emerging as an innovative technology in the education field in that it allows people to safely and efficiently experience dangerous, expensive or impossible situations, such as disaster training or space travel. Recently, as government agencies have supported a lot for producing virtual augmented reality contents about education, various educational contents using virtual augmented reality technology have been developed through the Edutech industry. Many virtual augmented reality-based educational contents are being developed, but mixed reality-based educational contents are very limited which could be more effective for education. This study examines the basic method of producing mixed reality educational contents using Hololens and, on the basis of this, it proposes the method for producing scientific experiment contents. Hololens made it possible to share information in real time without a regular desktop PC, and it is effective for teachers to manage and evaluate students in real time.

The Korean peninsula has been known as an area that is free of volcanic disasters. However, recent observations and research results of volcanoes in Far East Asia, including Baedu Mountain and Japanese volcanoes, show that the Korean peninsula is no longer a safe area from volcanic disasters. Since 2012, the Korean government has been developing an IT-based construction technology, VDRS (Volcanic Disaster Response System), for effective volcanic disaster response system. The main users of VDRS are public officers in central or local governments. However, most of them have little experience and knowledge about volcanic disasters. Therefore, it is essential to develop education contents and implement training on volcanic disaster response for effective response in a real disaster situation. In this paper, we deal with the development of a mobile application based on virtual reality (VR) for realistic volcanic disaster response training. The objectives of training are the delivery of knowledge and experience for volcanic disasters. First, VR contents were generated based on spatial information. A 3D model was constructed based on a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and visualization models for meterological effects and various volcanic disaster diffusion effects were implemented for the VR contents. Second, the mobile application for the volcanic disaster response training was implemented. A 12-step story board is proposed for volcanic disaster experience. The application was developed with the Unity3D engine based on the proposed story board to deliver knowledge of various volcanic disasters (volcanic ash, pyroclastic flows, volcanic mudflow etc.). The results of this paper will be used for volcanic disaster response and prevention training and for more realistic training linked with augmented reality technology in the future.
Virtual reality that we have seen from the movies in 80's and 90's is hawing near based on the rapid progress of science together with a computer technology. Various virtual reality system developments (such as VRML, HMD FishTank, Wall Type, CAVE Type, and so on) and the advancement of those systems make for the embodiment of virtual reality that gives more sense of the real. Virtual reality is so immersive that makes people feel like they are in that environment and enable them to manipulate without experiencing the environment at first hand that is hard to experience in reality. Virtual reality can be applied to the spheres, such as education, high-level programming, remote control, surface exploration of the remote satellite, analysis of exploration data, scientific visualization, and so on. For some connote examples, there are training of a tank and an aeroplane operation, fumiture layout design, surgical operation practice, game, and so on. In these virtual reality systems, the actual operation of the human participant and virtual workspace are connected each other to the hardware that stimulates the five senses adequately to lend the sense of the immersion. There are still long way to go, however, before long it will be possible to have the same feeling in the virtual reality as human being can have by further study and effort. In this thesis, the basic definition, the general idea, and the kind of virtual reality were discussed. Especially, CAVE typed in reality that is highly immersive was analyzed in definition, and then the method of VR programming and modeling in the virtual reality system were suggested by showing the restoration process of Kyongbok Palace (as the content of the original form of the culture) that was made by KISTI(Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) in 2003 through design process in virtual reality system. Through these processes, utilization of the immersive virtual reality system was discussed and how to take advantage of this CAVE typed virtual reality system at the moment was studied. In closing the problems that had been exposed in the process of the restoration of the cultural property were described and the utilization plan of the virtual reality system was suggested.
This paper is to study techniques of a virtual reality to maximize the depth of the users' immersion based on differentiated interactive contents using korean traditional fairy tale. In order to increase more interests in korean traditional fairy tale, we produce a interactive 3D contents and propose a new approach to a system designing applying a virtual realities such as HMD, Leap motion. First, using Korean traditional fairy tale, we generate interactive contents consisting of scenes intensifying user's tensions while interaction of game process. Based on the interactive contents generated, we design scene generation using Oculus HMD, the gaze based input processes and a hand interface using Leap motion, in order to provide a multi dimensional scene transmission and an input process method to intensify the sense of the reality. We will verify through diverse tests whether the proposed virtual reality contents based on a technique of an input process will actually intensify the immersion in the virtual reality or not while minimizing the motion sickness of the users.

Augmented Reality (AR) enables the enhanced realism and interaction by providing the overlaid digital information on the user's view of the physical world. In this paper, we propose an AR-based ship design visualization system for presenting ship 3D model in smart phones or table PCs. The proposed system compute corner points and feature points by contour finding method and harris corner detector, and build a ship-design drawing database. By using SURF algorithm, key feature points are extracted from ship-design drawing image which is obtained by mobile camera. Then ship-design drawing image is recognized by matching the feature points stored in DB and extracted key feature points. 3D ship structures are visualized by overlaying the ship-design drawing image on the smart phone or table PC's screen. Compared to conventional 2D ship-design, proposed system helps to easily understand the structures of the ship and reduce the business design period. Thus, Enhanced competitiveness of business is expected.
Motion-sensing interface enhances the sense of reality of user experience in virtual reality context. This study analyzes the innovation resistance and adoption structure for Leap Motion, which provides a motion-sensing function, primarily considering the theory of perceived risk. Previous research regarding innovation resistance and adoption mainly addressed the resultant aspects of perceived risk, or the impact of perceived value on the adoption intention. This study synthetically reviews previous studies from a multi-dimensional view considering both resistance- and adoption-perspective. To do so, we identified important antecedents that affect perceived risk and value, and we analyzed the compound dynamics of perceived risk and value towards innovation resistance. As a result, we found that the antecedents included in the existent acceptance models from adoption-perspective can help reduce the level of perceived risk, and that higher perceived value leads to lower innovation resistance. Additionally, trialability can rather foster the perceived risk.
TOLED(Transparent, Organic Light Emitting Diodes) based edutainment system has been studied to solve the actual feeling training and educational experience problem of e-learning. However, edutainment system using TOLED has a problem for the non-detection of multi marker array and rotate marker array, and it has problem for the dissonance phenomena caused by Illumination Environment between real world and virtual object. It also has a do not provide services through a variety of devices problem. Therefore, in this paper, we designed a system that provides a realistic actual feeling edutainment contents by recognizes the marker array rotation and a plurality of marker arrangement via an improved marker detection technique. And to unify the real space and virtual space of the lighting environment through a nested block layer.
Since the early age of computer graphics, facial animation has been applied to various fields, and nowadays it has found several novel applications such as virtual reality(for representing virtual agents), teleconference, and man-machine interface. When we want to apply facial animation to the system with multiple participants connected via network, it is hard to animate facial expression as we desire in real-time because of the size of information to maintain an efficient communication. This paper's major contribution is to adapt 'Level-of-Detail'to the facial animation in order to solve the above problem.Level-of-Detail has been studied in the field of computer graphics to reperesent the appearance of complicated objects in efficient and adaptive way, but until now no attempt has mode in the field of facial animation. In this paper, we present a systematic scheme which enables this kind of adaptive control using Level-of-Detail.The implemented system can generate speech synchronized facial expressions with various types of user input such as text, voice, GUI, head motion, etc.
If the game characters in the cyber world speak the same dialogues as in the real world, it will give game players more fun and realism. And game players are more and more immersed into the cyber space. However, we observed that only simple and primitive dialogues are used at the market places in most MMORPGS. We introduce personality psychology theory for generating the personality of NPC in MMORPG. And we suggest how to make a conversation between PC (Playable Character) and NPC (Non - Playable Character) according to 'Extroversion - Introversion dimension' and 'Neuroticism dimension'. And we implement the personality dialogue generation program, which is composed of two parts. One is for generating personality, and the other for making dialogue. Personality generator can set a NPC's personality automatically, and Dialogue Maker can control the dialogue styles, quantities, and characteristics of NPC. Thus, the program implemented in this paper can help game designer and scenario writer to make game characters easily. The approach in this paper can be applied to generate various game characters and used to represent agents and avatars of real-time animation.
The purpose of this study was to examine the current status and future prospects through the Classification of sports and ICT convergence technology for the health. Sports and ICT convergence technology could be classified into three types-sports and virtual reality, wearable devices, application and platforms. First, the application of virt ual reality technology gives a user the feeling of reality, fun, and flow through the sensing technology. And this was extended to 'Gamification' concept, gamification of the Nike Plus has become a catalyst in the spread of wea rable devices market. Second, the fastest growing sector in the wearable device area is the health and sports. Chin ese and start-up companies as well as global ICT companies is competing for expanding the pool by releasing the fitness-related wearable devices. Third, the building of platform that can utilize the health and exercise-related dat a collected through the application is expanding.
