Optimal Blank Design using Virtual Try-Out Method (가상 트라이 아웃 방법을 이용한 최적 블랭크 설계)

  • Sheet metal forming has some merits that are less loss of materials in process, less time-consuming and it makes mass product possible. The product produced by sheet metal forming process has high strength compared to the weight and better surface characteristics. Therefore, sheet metal forming process is a lot used in automobiles, aircrafts, electronics and appliances. This paper made the process design for forming Bracket Front Back Frame Lower, determined the blank shape and size using PAM-STAMP, commercial software and evaluated formability. It has been proved that the optimal blank through the result forming analysis has advantage in terms of formability and spring back compared to the rectangular blank.

  • Input shaping is an efficient tool to eliminate transient and residual vibration caused by motion of mechanical systems. However, the rise time of the systems tends to increase due to the presence of input shapers. This paper is concerned with the rise time reduction when using input shaping. To this end, this paper proposes an input shaper design method for an undamped single mode vibration system using a virtual mode, which is not an actual mode but reflected in the design process. The essence of the proposed method is to design a three-impulse input shaper as if a single mode system has two modes: one actual mode and one virtual mode. The natural frequency of the virtual mode is a design parameter to change the rise time of the system. This paper discusses the performance of the proposed input shapers by simulation.

Shape Optimization of Metal Forming and Forging Products using the Stress Equivalent Static Loads Calculated from a Virtual Model (가상모델로부터 산출된 응력 등가정하중을 이용한 금속 성형품 및 단조품의 형상최적설계)

  • A shape optimization is proposed to obtain the desired final shape of forming and forging products in the manufacturing process. The final shape of a forming product depends on the shape parameters of the initial blank shape. The final shape of a forging product depends on the shape parameters of the billet shape. Shape optimization can be used to determine the shape of the blank and billet to obtain the appropriate final forming and forging products. The equivalent static loads method for non linear static response structural optimization (ESLSO) is used to perform metal forming and forging optimization since nonlinear dynamic analysis is required. Stress equivalent static loads (stress ESLs) are newly defined using a virtual model by redefining the value of the material properties. The examples in this paper show that optimization using the stress ESLs is quite useful and the final shapes of a forming and forging products are identical to the desired shapes.

  • 고분자 복합재료 제조방법의 하나인 수지이동성형의 충전공정을 모사하기 위한 수 치모사 코드를 개발하였다. 수지이동성형의 충정공정문제를 수학적 공식으로 표현하기 위하 여 비등방성 다공질체를 통과하는 유동에 대한 이론을 사용하였다. 과도상태로 진행하는 자 유표면의 동적 충전거동을 묘사하기 위하여 수치격자 생성을 포괄하는 경계적합 좌표계의 계산기법을 적용하였다. 이와 아울러 불규칙적인 구저와 다중으로 연결된 금형면의 충전모 사에 저합한 복합격자의 개념을 도입하였다. 복합격자들 간의 가상의 경계에 대해서는 검사 체적 기법을 이용하여 물질보존을 만족시켜 주었다. 임의의 금형 두께와 투과도를 가지는 다수의 금형면이 결합된 두 개의 입구를 지닌 금형을 대상으로 하여 몇가지 예를 시험해 보 았다. 수치모사의결과 복합격자의 개념을 도입한 수치모사 코드는 수지이동성형의 복잡한 충전공정을 보다 정교하게 모사하는데 응용될수 있음을 보여주었다.

Hot Imprinted Hierarchical Micro/Nano Structures on Aluminum Alloy Surfaces (고온 임프린팅을 통한 알루미늄합금 표면의 마이크로/나노 구조 성형 기술)

  • Various surface texturing techniques have been studied because of the effective applicability of micro or nano scale surface patterns. Particularly, the most promising types of patterns include the hierarchical patterns, which consists of micro/nano structures. Different processes such as MEMS, laser machining, micro cutting and micro grinding have been applied in the production of hierarchical patterns on various material surfaces. This study demonstrates the process of hot imprinting to induce the hierarchical patterns on the Al alloy surfaces. Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process was used to imprint molds with micro scale sinusoidal pattern. In addition, the sinusoidal pattern with rough surface morphology was obtained as a result of the discharge craters. Consequently, the hierarchical patterns consisting of the sinusoidal pattern and the discharge craters were prepared on the imprinting mold surface. Hot imprinting process for the Al plates was conducted on the prepared mold, and the replication performance was analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the hierarchical patterns of the mold were effectively duplicated on the surface of Al plate.

  • Fictitious experiment to control extrusion process was carried out using the fuzzy theory. Algorithm of the fuzzy logic controller(FLC) was made based on the general principles of extrusion. In the simulation, at first, thickness of extrudate was measured as feedback input variable. Secondly, a set point of screw speed was determined as output variable of extruder operating condition through FLC. Finally, the thickness of extrudate was controlled as a given set point. Barrel heater was simply controlled as on/off state, which was not fuzzy controlled.

  • A short shot is an incomplete molded part caused by insufficient material injection into the mold. Remedial actions to control the process conditions can be taken by injection molding experts based on their knowledge and experiences. However, it is very difficult for non-experts to avoid short shot by finding the proper process conditions such as mold temperature, melt temperature and filling time. In this paper, an intelligent generator of optimal process conditions based upon fully logic algorithm is proposed so that trial and error can be minimized and non-experts an well at experts can also find the optimal process conditions.

  • The plastic deformation behavior of formed CICC fur the superconducting Tokamac fusion device was examined and appropriate manufacturing information was provided. A relation between travel of the bending roller and spring back displacement was obtained via virtual manufacturing. The radius of CICC after forming was expressed as a function of the bend-roll travel. The maximum von Mises stress after spring back was also monitored fur the SAGBO prediction. Next, the variation of the CICC cross-sectional area was examined during the first turn and during conduit bending with the largest curvature. Finally, the coil radius was measured and compared with the data generated from the virtual manufacturing. The measured data showed similar pattern as predicted one. Using the mapping function found to match with the real data, the data from the virtual manufacturing may facilitate accurate manufacturing.

  • Digital imaging is emerging as a standard method for patient documentation in clinical setting. Managing patient expectations before aesthetic surgery can greatly improve patient satisfaction after surgery. The patient who visited for plastic surgery wants a predicted figure after the operation. A virtual plastic surgery software is necessary in order to satisfy the desire of patients. Adobe $Photoshop^{(R)}$ is the professional standard in desktop digital imaging, offers indispensable new features for graphic and web design, photography, and video. Using imaging technology, it takes just minutes to realistically simulate the results of double eyelid operation, liposuction, rhinoplasty or any other aesthetic procedure. The aim of this study is to analyze the significance of the digital image processing and to introduce the virtual plastic surgery using Adobe $Photoshop^{(R)}$.
