  • A modulation type classifier based on statistical moments has been successfully employed to classify PSK signals. Previously, developed Classifiers were analyzed in AWGN channel only. In this paper, a moments-based modulation type classifier to classify BPSK and QPSK signals over Rayleigh fading channel is proposed and analyzed. The moments of received signal are evaluated with the exact distribution of the received signal and a moments-based classifier is proposed. The performance evaluation of the proposed classifier in terms of the misclassification probability for BPSK and QPSK is investigated under Rayleigh fading environment.

  • Locally optimum detectors are useful for detection of signals with small strength, but it is often difficult to implement the exact form of the locally optimum nonlinearity. In this paper, a suboptimum quantizer detection system in which the locally optimum nonlinearity is replaced by a uniform quantizer and a coder is proposed. The proposed system does not require iteration to obtain the quantizer parameters and is easily implementable.

  • The error probability of the DS-CDMA / DPSK cellular mobile communication system with CCI canceller and MRC diversity reception technique has been analyzed in the cellular radio channel which is characterized by AWGN, Multi-User Interference(MUI) and m-distribution fading. System capacity i. e., number of user per cell has been derived and the evaluated results are shown in figures as a function of PN code sequence length, fading index, BER, number of diversity branches and $E_b/N_o$, Here, the voice activity factor is assumed to be 3/8, the number of sectors in a cell 3 and Multi-User Iner- ference is modeled as Gaussian process.

  • For the theoretical performance analysis of Viterbi Decoder for wireless LAN with data rate 12Mbps, code rate 1/2 and constraint length 7 defined in IEEE 802.11a, the transfer function is derived using Cramer's rule and the first-event error probability and bit error probability is derived under the AWGN. In the design process, input symbol is quantized into 16 steps for 4 bit soft decision and register exchange method instead of memory method is proposed for trace back, which enables the majority at the final decision stage. In the implementation, the Viterbi decoder based on parallel architecture with pipelined scheme for processing 12Mbps high speed data rate and AWGN generator are implemented using FPGA chips. And then its performance is verified in real time.

  • We propose a channel-attentive Mel frequency cepstral coefficient (CAMFCC) extraction method to improve the recognition performance of speech that is partially corrupted in the frequency domain. This method introduces weighting terms both at the filter bank analysis step and at the output probability calculation of decoding step. The weights are obtained for each frequency channel of filter bank such that the more reliable channel is emphasized by a higher weight value. Experimental results on TIDIGITS database corrupted by various frequency-selective noises indicated that the proposed CAMFCC method utilizes the uncorrupted speech information well, improving the recognition performance by 11.2% on average in comparison to a multi-band speech recognition system.

  • This paper proposed a regularized iterative image restoration by using method of conjugate gradient. Compared with conventional iterative methods, method of conjugate gradient has a merit to converte toward a solution as a super-linear convergence speed. But because of those properties, there are several artifacts like ringing effects and the partial magnification of the noise in the course of restoring the images that are degraded by a defocusing blur and additive noise. So, we proposed the regularized method of conjugate gradient applying constraints. By applying the projectiong constraint and regularization parameter into that method, it is possible to suppress the magnification of the additive noise. As a experimental results, we showed the superior convergence ratio of the proposed mehtod compared with conventional iterative regularized methods.

  • A DDFS(Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer) used in spread spectrum communication systems must need fast switching speed, high resolution(the step size of the synthesizer), small size and low power. The chip has been designed with four parallel sine look-up table to achieve four times throughput of a single DDFS. To achieve a high processing speed DDFS chip, a 24-bit pipelined CMOS technique has been applied to the phase accumulator design. To reduce the size of the ROM, each sine ROM of the DDFS is stored 0-.pi./2 sine wave data by taking advantage of the fact that only one quadrant of the sine needs to be stored, since the sine the sine has symmetric property. And the 8 bit of phase accumulator's output are used as ROM addresses, and the 2 MSBs control the quadrants to synthesis the sine wave. To compensate the spectrum purity ty phase truncation, the DDFS use a noise shaper that structure like a phase accumlator. The system input clock is divided clock, 1/2*clock, and 1/4*clock. and the system use a low frequency(1/4*clock) except MUX block, so reduce the power consumption. A 107MHz DDFS(Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer) implemented using 0.8.mu.m CMOS gate array technologies is presented. The synthesizer covers a bandwidth from DC to 26.5MHz in steps of 1.48Hz with a switching speed of 0.5.mu.s and a turing latency of 55 clock cycles. The DDFS synthesizes 10 bit sine waveforms with a spectral purity of -65dBc. Power consumption is 276.5mW at 40MHz and 5V.

  • This paper addresses a face verification method using the nonlinear composite filter. This face verification process can be simple and speedy because it does not require any reprocessing such as face detection, alignment or cropping. The optimum nonlinear composite filter is derived by minimizing the output energy due to additive noise and an input scene while maintaining the outputs of training images constant. The filter is equipped with the discrimination capability and the robustness to additive noise by minimizing the outputs of the input scene and the noise, respectively. We build the nonlinear composite filter with two training images and compare the filter with the conventional synthetic discriminant function (SDF) filter. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves are presented as a metric for the performance evaluation. According to the experimental results the optimum nonlinear composite filter is shown to be a robust scheme for face verification in low resolution and noise environments.

  • Adaptive equalizers are inevitable schemes in digital communication systems for compensating the transmission channel distortion. Additionally, to obtain the required BER(Bit Error Rate), the adaptive algorithms appropriate to the mobile communication channels are required. In this paper, we propose the NPDFE (Noise-Predictive Decision Feedback Equalizer) for communication systems performance improvement in mobile communication channels. The performance of the proposed NPDFE with QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) is simulated under AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise), Ricean fading, ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) fading, and Rayleigh fading channels. The equalizers used in simulations are a LE (Linear Equalizer), a DFE (Decision Feedback Equalizer), and a NPDFE. Moreover, the equalizer performance criterion of the QPSK is the BER.

  • The quality loss of a X-band transmitter has been derived by means of MC simulation. The transmitter as a payload of LEO(Low Earth Orbit) satellite is capable of the down transmission the image data of hundreds Mbps generated from the Electro-Optical Instrument in real time. The parameters such as data asymmetry amplitude unbalance, phase unbalance, wave shaping and channel interference are included in the quality loss simulation Assuming that normally distributed gaussian noise is simply added to the channel, the quality loss of 0.7 dB has been obtained through this simulation based on a 95% confidence interval. The obtained quality loss can be applied to the link budgets as an additional loss item.
