  • Modern design background of Scandinavia counts the Industrial Revolution and functionalism of Deustscher Werkbund and Bauhaus. However, Scandinavian has created their characteristic 'Scandinavian Modern Furniture' as an adaptation to their environment which are organic form based on their nature, affection of natural material, and handicraft tradition. Finish architect Alvar Aalto and Danish architect Arne Jacobsen rendered great contribution to worldwide reputation of Scandinavian furniture design. Both of them have hold tradition shared historically and culturally in common, brought the weighty traditional thoughts enable to develope their unique design. Especially they had continuous experiment of wood shaping and renovation of manufacturing technique so that they could made their chair design -the laminated bentwoods chair and moulded plywood chair- functionally comfortable. In point of view, the purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the chair design of Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen, focusing un their bentwoods chair. For this purpose, the background of bentwoods chair design was investigated and in the philosophical, formative, and technical aspect, their bentwoods chair design were compared and analyzed.

  • With rapidly changing modem information technology, the structure of our lifestyle has underwent much changes in our society. One of these changes is an immense distribution of computer desks, which became necessities of life in various organizations, companies and public offices as well as at home. Therefore, many companies are faced with the necessity of bringing about a new product with esthetic needs and new functions and come to have opportunities to make profits from top-quality products based on competitive design development. The academic design support program in collaboration with industry can provide design-related industry with a design assistance for a new product development, in addition, it can give to the professional faculty of the college the chances to contribute to advancement of design industry of the nation. To accomplish the need and purpose of this research, the design development of unified computer desks was carried out with the introduction of life-long Universal design concept named ‘Design For All.’ The theoretical background of this study researched all the literature on the terms definition of a computer desk, the concept and definition of Universal design and design support program in collaboration with industry and performed data analyses for a product development through an analysis of domestic products and a benchmarking of foreign products. On the basis of these theoretical background and analysis results, this research brought out a new product through designing processes and the information of this production could be utilized via the feedback of a new product. That is, this research was done for a practical use.

  • 21 Century is said the age of cultural industry. In this cultural Industry one of very important factors which guides this times is the exploitation of cultural goods, which is based on regional identity. Therefore, at this point of time when its weighty has been raised, the aim of this study is to fill the image Korean tradition and modernity culture in them, through the search on their characteristics among regions and nations, desk the cultural service goods which gets survival power of traditional and cultural identity. Nine existing Hahoe masks are changed into nine new cultural items, which are presented the nine dreams of Hahoe masks. As consumer's choice is diversified by a set of products, main concept in this study is the focus on modernity, rationality, traditionality and popularity. The main concept of this study is on rational functions and convenience, the harmony of tradition and modernity. As said above, in the process of manufacture the mass production of goods is stressed, and by getting the composition and making a set of goods, the choice of consumers will be extended. Getting ideal globalization by the coexistence of tradition and modernity on goods, is very important. Consequently, cultural goods must be recognized as a factor of its medium, and also, on domestic cultural goods people's interest must be risen all the more.

  • 한국 조선시대와 중국 명나라 가구들에 표출된 문양들을 문헌자료와 비교분석을 통해 심미적이며 객관적 조형 분석 툴을 이용하여 한국과 중국 양국 간의 현대적 콘텐츠 디자인에 응용 가능한 학문적 가치를 제시하고자 한다. 21세기 무한 경쟁 시대에 걸맞게 문화와 경제적 마인드를 형성하기 위해서는 전통 문양을 어떻게 디자인 요소로 이끌어나느냐 하는 여건 마련이 선행된 연후에야 가능한 것이므로 이에 대한 프로그램의 활성화의 전략에는 어떤 것이 있는가에 대해 살펴보았다.

전통가구 반닫이의 형태적 특성을 활용한 가방디자인 개발 (Development of a Bag Design by Incorporating and Adapting the Formative Characteristics of the Traditional Bandaji Chest)

  • As interest in the environment and sustainability increases, a tendency to pursue eco-design is emerging. Sustainable design coincides with the Korean aesthetic sense of applying the principle of the circulation of nature. This study examined Korean traditional furniture, Bandaji, from the perspective of historical and cultural sustainability and extracted and adopted a sustainability-related motif. The purpose of this study was to develop a creative bag design that reflects Korean tradition and strengthens artistry. First, a bag was produced based on the morphological characteristics of Gyeonggi-do Bandaji. Second, though the original overall design was maintained, the decorative patterns were modified by, for example, increasing the number of ear decorations on the surface of the bag and reducing the number of traps. Third, a new geometric pattern was created for the surface of the bag; this entailed moving the position of the handle-shaped ear ornament and the leather. Fourth, new decorative patterns were drawn on the surface. This study is meaningful in that it presents a sustainable bag production methodology that reflects Korean aesthetics. It also showcases a designer's unique, creative, and artistic bag design. It is expected that design work inspired by Korean formative beauty will be an opportunity to simultaneously utilize and support various Korean cultural assets and artworks.

IT융합교육 사례: 가상현실에 기반한 가구배치 시뮬레이션 (A Case of IT Confusion Education: Simulation for Furniture Placement based on Virtual Reality)

  • 가상현실은 프로그래밍, 시뮬레이션, 컴퓨터 그래픽스 등 다양한 학문의 종합체이며 이러한 형태의 새로운 문화적 패러다임의 등장은 우리에게 새로운 개념의 콘텐츠 개발 방법과 정보교류방식을 요구하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 3D 가상현실 기술을 이용하여 I-Bench Mobile 이라는 새로운 장비를 통해 사용자와 인터렉티브가 가능한 가구배치 시뮬레이션을 제안한다. 이것은 3D로 제작이 되며 물리 및 중력을 적용한다는 점에 강점을 두며, 또한 스냅샷 기능을 통해 고객들이 가구를 자신이 원하는 장소에 배치하여 궁극적으로 고객 만족도 향상을 목표로 하고 있다. 가상증강현실기술을 이용한 소프트웨어를 개발하는 본 연구 과정은 공학계열의 컴퓨터학과와 예술계열의 영상 예술 디자인학과, 시각 디자인 학과와 같은 다양한 학과들에서 다루는 교육과정의 작업이 필요하므로 단지 코딩 기술이 아닌 여러 학문의 기술들이 함께 어우러진 융합 IT기술 교육의 좋은 사례라고 할 수 있다.

장애물 회피 알고리즘을 이용한 반려견 케어 로봇디자인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design of the Dog Care Robot Using Obstacle Protection Algorithm)

  • 최근 국민소득 증가와 더불어 인구감소로 인한 고령화, 1인 가구 증가와 같은 사회 현상이 관찰된다. 고령화 가구 및 1인 가구증가에 비례해 반려동물을 사육하는 가구도 증가하고 있는데 이들의 경우 대부분 외로움 극복과 가정 내 활력을 위해 반려동물을 활용한다. 반려 동물을 가족처럼 생각하는 사람들이 늘어나면서 국내 반려동물 시장의 규모도 동반 성장하고 있다. 고령화 가구 및 1인가구의 반려동물이 늘어나면서 생기는 문제는 홀로 남겨진 반려동물의 먹이급식, 운동관리 등과 같은 케어(Care)가 제대로 수행 되지 못하고 있다. 외부에서 원격으로 반려동물을 관찰하고 일정량의 먹이를 주기적으로 공급하며 운동유발을 통해 반려동물의 건강상태를 관리해주는 로봇에 대한 연구와 개발이 필요한 실정이다. 반려동물 중 반려견의 선택이 가장 높게 나타난다. 따라서 본 연구는 구동 방식에 대한 로봇연구와 기존의 반려동물 케어 시스템의 사례를 파악하고 장애물 회피 알고리즘을 이용한 반려견 케어 로봇에 대한 연구를 하였다. 3륜 중 2개의 바퀴에 모터를 장착하고 반려견의 간식 급여동작과 장애물 회피 알고리즘을 이용하기 위해 전면에 초음파 센서를 사용하였다. 후면에는 적외선 센서 4개를 장착하여 이동시 바닥과 물체의 감지가 가능하도록 시스템 구성 하였다. 그 결과 반려견이 로봇바퀴에 수납된 간식의 냄새를 탐지하여 로봇을 따라다니고 접근을 감지한 로봇이 회피구동 하며 반려견의 운동능력 향상시켰다. 그러나 본 연구는 반려견 케어로봇에 관한 연구로 다른 반려동물들의 특성이 반영되지 않았고, 지속적인 관찰 및 테스트를 통한 실증이 필요하여 후속 연구가 필요하다.

주택 트렌드 분석을 통한 공공주택 디자인 방향설정 연구 (A Study on the Design Directions for Public Housing through Trend Analysis in Housing)

  • 본 연구는 주택 트렌드를 분석하고, 이에 따른 공공주택의 디자인 방향을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 인구 가구 변화, 사회 변화, 정책 제도 변화, 기술 변화 등의 주택 트렌드 영향요인을 분석하였으며, 공공주택 디자인 현황을 분석하고 전문가 의견수렴을 거쳐 앞으로 공공주택이 추구해야 할 디자인 방향을 제시하였다. 우리 사회는 인구성장률이 둔화되고 가구분화가 심화되고 있으며, 소득수준의 증가로 거주자의 다양한 요구가 증대되고 있다. 또한 지역별로 주거수요가 분명한 차이가 나타나고 있고, 중 소형 주택공급과 소규모 개발이 확대되고 있으며, IT와 녹색기술이 급속히 발전하고 있다. 이에 따라 향후 주택 트렌드는 '수치제어에서 성능중심'으로, '중앙주도에서 지역중심'으로, '단위세대에서 도시중심'으로 전환되어야 한다. 현행 공공주택 디자인은 최근의 주택 트렌드를 반영하고 있으나, 주동수를 줄이고 중앙광장을 가운데 두면서 통경을 확보하는 계획경향이 대부분 나타났다. 이는 지역의 입지특성과 주거요구를 반영하는데 한계가 있으므로 앞으로 공공주택 디자인 과정에서 입지특성과 지역사회에 대한 고려가 요구된다. 이러한 결과를 종합하여 본 연구에서는 공공주택 디자인이 추구해야 할 기본방향을 '수요변화 대응', '입지특성 반영', '지역사회 연계', '녹색환경 구현', '주거성능 확보'의 5가지로 제시하였다.

포스트모더니즘 현대미술과 가구디자인의 조형적 특성에 관한 연구 - 1980년대 작품의 사례를 통한 상호연관성을 중심으로 - (A Study of the Formative Features of Painting and Furniture Design in Postmodernism - Focused on the correlation with their examples in the 1980s -)

  • Postmodernism, the theory and philosophy that swayed the world in the late 20th century, can be interpreted in various ways as a critical reaction against modernism as well as, in one way, the logical extension of modernism itself. Thus, an extensive understanding of the social and temporal background of the birth of postmodernism and a macroscopic and correlative approach toward the related artistic circles, especially art, were carried out before a formative discussion on the furniture design of postmodernism. Postmodemism in the field of furniture design shares the history of birth and spirit with Memphis, the progressive design group established by Ettore Sottsass in Milan, 1980. This study identifies the formative features of pestrnodernistic furniture design around those works that express the trend of postmodernism, in particular, chairs, as well as the designers who participated in the first Memphis exhibition at the Milan Furniture Fair. By identifying such features, the correlation between postmodemism and those features expressed in the works of postmodernism paintings were examined. The works of Anselm Kiefer, a German nee-expressionist who became famous through the Venice Biennale 1980, and five young Italian trans-avant garde authors were selected as the scope of this case study. The characteristics of postmodernism in modern art were analyzed in terms of themes, shape, and content and were derived as follows; Firstly, borrowed and past-oriented themes, secondly, deconstructive, atypical, plural, emotional, and intuitional shapes, and thirdly, basic, metaphorical, and abstract content, The formative characteristics of chair design in postmodemism furniture design are as follows; Firstly, deconstructive, symbolic, and abstract shapes, past-oriented, reactionary, and primitive colors and closing, as well as the characteristic of delivering commercial and metaphorical messages. The subjects and motives of art have been succeeded by the characteristics of color and closing in furniture, the shape and techniques of fine arts by the characteristics of furniture shape, and the content of art by that of furniture. They share key words and characteristics.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe의 가구 디자인 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of furniture design of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe)

  • Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the influential modernist architects in early 20th century, had an great effort to found the modern architecture through various kinds of works. Conceptually he tried to develop the trans-temporal architecture language by involving a reintegration of countermanding principles in both ideas and practices for designing buildings. The model for his striving to find such a synthesis or a dynamic form was the neo-classicism of K. F Schinkel, inasmuch as Schinkel endeavored to combine the classical rationalistic order with the creative act of construction and to make these two melt into his age. In the same horizon with that Mies van der Rohe attempted to express the industrialized civilization of his time as a given fact, though this phenomenal substance was the only authentic form that has been conceivable to the people. For him the modern technology was regarded as the manifestation of rationalistic transcendency, which can be interpreted always consequentially. Here In this context this study is purposed to consider through the analysis of the ground ideas of architecture and the designed chairs, how commensurable the tectonic value (in the architecture) that is constantly evident in his works and the various autonomous drives toward deformalization (in the furniture design) that is concerned with his interest for cultural situation and materiality of form are with each other. And then it will be tried to prove, that on the ground of the trans-temporal achitecture language the furniture design of Mies van der Rohe, which emphasizes curves as individual forms, could correspond to his architecture that lays priority to space and construction
