In today's aging society, stable residential environment is essential for the elderly living alone to be able to do activities of daily living without restrictions and cherish a satisfactory quality of life. We developed a safe and convenient multifunctional sofa by removing complex combinations and decomposing processes of the multifunctional transformable furniture, appropriate for the use by elderly living alone. We deduced the 4 main keywords and details related to the purpose of sofa by analyzing the users' physical and mental characteristics through literature review and by using 24-hour scheduling, interviews, and actual measurement. Finally, by applying this to furniture planning, we designed 4 different types of multifunctional sofa system. Production was done in cooperation with AND Co. for 2 weeks using materials, colors and adhesives selectively chosen with careful consideration of their effects on the physical, mental aspects of the user to give optimal comfortability.

The purpose of this study is to develop a checklist based on the stored items of cooking, for making a good kitchen furniture reseach. The research candidates are purposive sampled from 30 households of for 40 or 50 pyeong-type apartments in Kangnam, Seoul, The research data are is collected gotten at by a field study of the stored items of cooking, eating and utility area, by an in-depth interview to 30 households, and by a field survey of the department stores, super-markets of home appliances. Studied households in average hold about 890 items, which are classified as 239 sorts. The first step of making the checklist is to categorize items into 9 biggest categories, considering the usage of items and the stage of the preparing the food. when the item was used. Second step of making the checklist is to categorize the items into 31 smaller categories, which reflect the shape of items, the storage style and the place of storage. Third step of making the checklist is to sort the items into smallest categories by the frequency of the usage, storage type, and the additional capacity of the item. Even Although items are sorted into the same level of categories, the frequency of use make a different storage area. Also, the storage style of the items was different according to the storage area. Based on these factors, we suggested a checklist based on the stored items of cooking.

21century design is working in order to increase the accessibility, eliminating alienation hierarchy for the use of the product. Efforts to these design approach are not intended for a small number of users. It offers the advantage of a variety of design for users of a wider range. So, it was allowed to extend the value in good design for all human beings. Traditional thought is expressed in a variety of shapes by applying meaning to another re-interpretation for the form to contemporary furniture and structure and decoration. Gyeongsang have a religious solemn feeling in the typical furniture of hall space that reflects the inner distinctive tradition thought of scholar of the Chosun Dynasty. For these reasons, in the present study, based on the modeling elements of Gyeongsang, which is based on the traditional idea of our country, there is the purpose to propose a design of agreed with table in modern lifestyle. Design concept proposed in this paper, to be applied to the design of the table is placed in the living space by re-interpreting the modeling properties which can be felt in the thin form and structure and patterns as modern image.

It suggests a closet design for infants in consideration of space utilization, furniture arrangement, and goods storage by integrating a baby's closet and toy chest, which was used for storage of baby's toys and play instrument. For this, it conducted and analyzed data research on the infants' toy chests in the domestic and overseas market and based on such approach, the colors that helped development of infants' cognition and emotion were selected while suggesting familiar animal characters for infants. Without considering separate arrangement of furniture and toy chest within limited space, it allowed space utilization and provided enough storing space. Also, the attached ball casters enabled easy carry of the closet and with this function, it helps infants arrange and store goods by themselves so that making them feel a sense of accomplishment. For effective spatial utilization as well as security of its genuine storage function, the closet and toy chest were combined in this study. Thus, it is believed that development of such multifunctional furniture will suggest the direction of researches on domestic furniture development that are conducted to maximize utilization of residential space for the people living today.

Cultural products, applying the design elements of cultural heritage Bekuje content of the product, we chose the useful material that can be used on a desk stand in the smart-phone Sticky Notes (Post-it) for use in modern life. As essential element of designers, foundation studies program helps student deal with the individual expression of imagination and variety of correspondence for solving design problem through the understanding of 2-D, 3-D basic design elements, principals, structures. Liberal art and foundation studio courses provides embodiment and settlement of design principal through the foundation studies expand to experiences systematically and deeply. After the Industrialization, foundation studies have developed from Bauhaus in German, the courses have been progressing and systematizing with the demand of time in United States. Growth of Industrialization, expanded design areas departmentalized to various of fields, then the segmentation of foundation courses tend to important than basic design courses. The introduction of information era, the appearance of computer is placed as a tool of design development and added to applied basic courses. This study is intended to know how to change the leading foundation courses in United State due to the revitalization of industrialization and information through the research and analyse to foundation design education curriculums. As a result, most of design school in United States provide drawing, 2-D, 3-D, and 4-D courses included 3-D design element as a basic studies and provide to students introduction to fundamental principal of design concept and communication in both theoretical and applied form. Also though the history, literature, critic, research and survey courses provide students to organize fundamental of systematical logic and understanding design system.

The most widely used material in furniture is wood. It is not only because it has good machinability and can be easily accessed, but also it is eco-friendly and human-friendly. Such material has been continuously being used for furniture and its machining method has been being actively researched and developed. Lumber has and has developed its own machining method. The conventional lumber machining method is difficult to make various types of furniture because it focuses on solving lumber's own modification problem due to the swelling and shrinking, and durability. Considering such characteristic of the material, a method to make it light and durable has been being researched and possibilities were found in wooden ships. Wooden ships are ships made of lumber, and are light and strong to be used in water. Also, in order to reduce the water resistance, it has streamlined curves so is formatively beautiful. The elegant curves and light and strong structure showed sufficient possibility to be used in furniture. Thus, the purpose of this study is to find a method to make various shapes of lumber lightly and strongly, using the production method of wooden ships, and to use this production method in designing furniture to propose a new form and structure of bench design, differentiating from conventional monotypic furniture.

In our cultural heritage with a ethnicity unique unparalleled in the world, and a new recognition of traditional culture and identity of its own in our country, lattice door flower temple the beauty of Korea in the way you tell, it was modernized by interpreting a new one to utilize as a design element of a wood lattice door flower temple. The aim of this study is to develop and suggest the handle for lockers according to the design process which are used for keeping of student's personal stuffs such as books, writing implements and gym uniform in elementary, middle and high school and university as well. This includes the design development for ILGUMTUR which is specialized for office furniture, but does not own the intellectual property right yet. The design concept based on the domestic locker market survey is recessed handle at low- to intermediate price and it's material should be plastic what is solid and light. The lock system should be constructed by molding process and the name plate can be exchanged every time the owner of locker changes. Contrary to the right angle of it's external appearance, the handle of the locker is designed to be softly round and the simplicity is pursued for an easy production. On the basis of this design concept the sketch has been drawn and upgraded in full by 3D-rendering. Then the mock-up has been completed by 3D printer and ILGUMTUR has obtained a patent for the locking system based on the rotation of 2 circles.

Culture and design change with time and what they have in common is that both develop in line with the era's living environments. Today, various life styles have emerged to cause changes in housing and living modes and we are in need of designs that can be commonly used in any place. Under the circumstances, furniture plays a role of medium that helps interactions between the human and the space and it has long been used in a variety of ways amid the change of the times. Soban, Korean traditional furniture, is a tool used in our real life and it is a piece of furniture that caters for both arts and functionality. It has been more of a living necessity and accordingly carried wisdom of experience for survival, rather than artificial beauty. Unlike other types of furniture, it is a practical tool designed in consideration of users. Therefore, this study aims to find traditional furniture's wisdom of experience in Soban, which tends to get neglected, and ensure its value as a modern design element, and to contribute to express and study the formative arts of Korean design so that a past living necessity of Soban can overcome its limitation of being floor-seating furniture and become more than an eating tool in it value.
