  • Building energy simulation has become a useful tool for predicting cooling, heating and air-conditioning loads for facilities. It is important to provide building energy performances feed back to the mechanical and electrical system operator and engineer for energy conservation and maintenance of building. From this research, we set up the typical weather data of location, basic description of building, geometric modelling data and the specification of Installed primary HVAC system for establishing the simulation model about energy consuming that take place in multipurpose building complex. The simulation tool of building energy - EnergyPlus (DOE and BLAST based simulation S/W), it has been used and accomplished calculations and analyses for evaluating the effect of the system types and operating condition of central HVAC plant on the building energy consumption. In this paper, we offer comparison and simultaneous results those involve electricity consumption pattern and amount between actual operation versus EnergyPlus simulation to the object building during summer season.

  • Installations of vertical boreholes for the ground source heat pump system are expensive to install. One way to reduce the initial cost is to increase the specific heat extraction rate of borehole system. However, as the specific heat extraction rate increases the temperature of borehole fluid decreases with the resultant lower Coefficient Of Performance in Heating(COPH) of heat pump system. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic informations about the performance of heat pump system with the specific heat extraction rate and soil thermal properties such as thermal conductivity and temperature. It is shown that the specific heat extraction rate is the most important parameter for the ground source heat pump system. To obtain the reasonable COPH value (COPH > 3) the heat extraction rate should be about 25 W/m or less. Accurate measurements of soil thermal properties are also very important to design the system properly. The effects of borehole thermal resistances are also examined in this study.

  • Yb2Si2O7 has a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to that of the base material of SiC and has excellent corrosion resistance in a high-temperature oxidizing atmosphere including water vapor, so it is being studied as one of the materials for environmental barrier coatings (EBCs). In this study, Yb2Si2O7 powder granule is deposited using atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) with different Ar/He ratios. Phase formation and microstructural characteristics are investigated with the coated specimens. In the coating layer, the crystallinity decreased, and the amorphous content increased from an increase in the ratio of Ar. In addition, the various types of particles involved by local volatilization of Si according to the Ar/He ratios were identified.

  • In this paper, entransy analysis is carried out for combined heat and power (CHP) generation system driven by low-grade heat source compared with energy and exergy analyses. The system consists of a regenerative organic rankine cycle (ORC) and an additional process heater in a series circuit. Special attention is paid to the effects of the turbine inlet pressure, source temperature, and the working fluid on the thermodynamic performance of the system. Results showed that the work efficiency of entransy is higher than that of energy but lower than that of exergy, wheress the process heat efficiency of entransy is lower than that of energy but higher than that of exergy. Entrance analysis showed the potential to complement the exergy analysis in the optimal design of the energy system.

  • In this study, combined heat source heat pump system was implemented with 4 single heat source heat pumps each applied with a geothermal source and a water source. Five cases (Case1~Case5) were configured to conduct a performance comparison and analysis of the combined heat source heat pump system. First of all, as a result of analyzing the heat source, the case when 4 ground heat sources were applied (Case1) showed a uniform EST(Entering Source Temperature) distribution throughout the year since it is less affected by outside air compared to the case when 4 water heat sources were applied (Case5). In both winter and summer, the ground heat source maintained higher EST than the water heat source. Therefore, the system with high ratio of geothermal sources is advantageous for heating, and with high ratio of water heat sources is advantageous for cooling.

  • The investment in the technology of using a combined heat source is insufficient, which utilizes the advantages of various heat sources to maximize the potential energy and at the same time increases the performance of the heat pump. In this study, as basic data for the development of a high-efficiency hybrid heat pump system that actively connects and uses various heat sources, simulations were conducted for the heat pumps in two cases where geothermal and hydrothermal heat were applied respectively. In May, COP increased by about 27.3% compared to geothermal heat. In February, the COP percentage decrease of hydrothermal heat compared to geothermal heat is -6.9%. In May, total energy consumption can be reduced by 21.1% when hydrothermal is applied compared to geothermal heat. In February, the total energy consumption increases by 3.4%.

  • This study analyzed the feasibility of the air source heat pump in residential buildings based on operational performance and carbon emissions. The operational performance and carbon emissions were compared between a gas boiler and an air source heat pump by calculating the annual heating and hot water load based on the 21A and 36A models for actual residential buildings. For the operational performance of the air source heat pump, the lowest (2.3) and highest COP (5.9) were attained during the winter and summer seasons, respectively. The carbon emissions depend on the amount of energy consumed during operations. An air source heat pump consumed 65.10% and 65.4% less energy per year in the 21A and 36A models, respectively compared to the existing gas boiler. Consequently, for air source heat pump carbon emissions were also reduced by 13.3% and 15.1% per year for the 21A and 36A models, respectively. It shows the effectiveness of applying an air source heat pump compared to an existing gas boiler.

  • Heat pumps play a crucial role in achieving the 2050 Net-Zero targets in many countries worldwide. This study addresses this issue by modifying simulation conditions and selecting relevant cases to determine optimal COP conditions using Simulink. By analyzing the efficiency of heat pump heating, utilizing Simulink models provided by MATLAB, and evaluating economic feasibility, we aim to identify the key factors influencing heat pump performance, including the heat source type, refrigerant, heating set temperature, and piping. Our goal is to establish optimal conditions for maximizing the efficiency of these eco-friendly systems while considering economic factors. In this study, it was confirmed that the heat exchanger flow arrangement of the air-source heat pump using R407c was set to cross-flow, and the diameter of the heat exchanger inner tube was set to 0.95 times the existing size, which was found to be optimal for maximizing efficiency. The COP was approximately 4.07 under these conditions.
