The Present Stage and Development Strategies for 'One Book, One City' Campaign: A Case Study of 'One Book One Busan' Project ('한 책, 한 도시' 운동의 현단계와 발전전략 - '원북원부산운동'을 중심으로 -)

  • One Book One City' project is regarded as one of the most successful reading promotion campaign conducted by public libraries in this age. The purpose of this research is to analyze the present stage of this campaign in Korea, and to suggest the actual plans to make this campaign successful. To look into deep context and process of this campaign in Korea, I did a case study for 'One Book One Busan' project. After analyzing the strength and weakness of the project, I suggested the strategies for the development of 'One Book One City' campaigns in Korea.

  • This study focuses on the collaboration among public libraries and communities through 'One Book, One City' reading campaign. This study introduced the meaning and trend of 'One Book, One City' program on the world. And this study also suggests the ideas for the collaboration among public libraries and communities making use of this reading campaign; activation of reading campaign, building library network, establishing partnership model between private and public sectors.

Size selectivity of round traps for greenling (Hexagrammos otakii) in the western sea of Korea (원통형 통발에 대한 서해안 쥐노래미 (Hexagrammos otakii)의 망목선택성)

  • This study investigated the size selectivity of the round traps for greenling (Hexagrammos otakii) in the western sea of Korea. The selection curve for the greenling from the experiments on Oct. 2000 and Ar. 2001 was fitted by Kitahara's method to a polynomial equation and two parameter logistic selection curve. The selectio curve of the latter was more reasonable than that of the former. The equation of selectivity curve obtained using a logistic function with least square method was , s(R)=1/1+exp(-1.1169R+6.4565), where R=1/m, and 1 and m are total length and mesh size, respectively. The size selectivity curve showed that the current regulated mesh size(35mm) in case of the round trap was close to the L50 (37.0mm) of the selection curve for the biological minimum length (21.4cm) of the greenling.

Mesh Selectivity of Durm Net Fish Trap for Elkhorn sculpin(Alcichthys alcicornis) in the Eastern Sea of Korea (동해의 장구형 통발에 대한 빨간횟대 (Alcichthys alcicornis)의 망목선택성)

  • The mesh selectivity of the drum net fish trap for elkhorn sculpin(Alcichthys alcicornis) in the estern sea of Korea was described. The selection curve for the elkhorn sculpin caught from the experiments between June 2003 and December 2003 was by SELECT(Share Each Length Class's Catch Total)model and by Kitahaa's method to a polynomial equation and two parameter logistic selection curve. The selection curve by SELECT model showed to be equal probability of entrance of the elkhorn sculpin in the large(55mm) and small(20mm) mesh traps by minimum AIC (Akaike Information Criteria). The equation of selectivity curve obtained by Kitahara's method using a logistic function with least square method was $s(R)\;=\;\frac{1}{1+exp(-0.3545R+2.141)$, where R=1/m, and/and m are total length and mesh size, respectively. The mesh selectivity curve showed that the current regulated mesh size(35mm) for the trap was corresponded to 21.4cm in the $L_{50}$of the selection curve for the elkhorn sculpin.

The Significance and Utilization of the Jungwon Historical and Cultural Area (중원역사문화권 설정의 의미와 활용 방안)

  • This paper proposed the validity and necessity of establishing the Jungwon Historical and Cultural Area by reviewing the historical characteristics of the name Jungwon and its temporal and spatial range. We also explored ways to utilize the Jungwon historical and cultural Area under the Special Act on the Maintenance of Historical and Cultural Areas. Jungwon, which means the center of the country, has strategic value as a key area connecting the Korean Peninsula to the north and south through the Geripryeong and Jukryeong. It also includes Chungju, which connects the Namhan and Bukhan Rivers . From the Mahan period, the areas of Cheongju and Jincheon, the Miho Stream basin to the west, and Chungju to the east were closely connected to each other. Afterwards, Baekje, Koguryo, and Silla engaged in a fierce battle to occupy the Jungwon area. Jungwon culture was born through the negotiation and fusion of the cultures of the three kingdoms. In particular, Silla continued to value the Jungwon area, demonstrated by the installation of Seowongyeong in Cheongju and Bukwongyeong in Wonju, centering on the Jungwongyeong. Since we have a historical view with a focus on ancient kingdoms, we have overlooked the full value of the history and culture of Jungwon. We need to recognize the importance of Jungwon area and think about how to utilize it. Therefore, we suggested in this paper that there be more public information services on the cultural heritage of Jungwon, the historical heritage experience, and the education programs for local residents. The development and operation of Jungwon's history, culture, and tourism contents, as well as the various academic research papers should be used to reveal the identity of the Jungwon historical and cultural area.

Predicting Suitable Restoration Areas for Warm-Temperate Evergreen Broad-Leaved Forests of the Islands of Jeollanamdo (전라남도 섬 지역의 난온대 상록활엽수림 복원을 위한 적합지 예측)

  • Poor supervision and tourism activities have resulted in forest degradation in islands in Korea. Since the southern coastal region of the Korean peninsula was originally dominated by warm-temperate evergreen broad-leaved forests, it is desirable to restore forests in this region to their original vegetation. In this study, we identified suitable areas to be restored as evergreen broad-leaved forests by analyzing the environmental factors of existing evergreen broad-leaved forests in the islands of Jeollanam-do. We classified forest lands in the study area into six vegetation types from Sentinel-2 satellite images using a deep learning algorithm and analyzed the tolerance ranges of existing evergreen broad-leaved forests by measuring the locational, topographic, and climatic attributes of the classified vegetation types. Results showed that evergreen broad-leaved forests were distributed more in areas with a high altitudes and steep slope, where human intervention was relatively low. The human intervention has led to a higher distribution of evergreen broad-leaved forests in areas with lower annual average temperature, which was an unexpected but understandable result because an area with higher altitude has a lower temperature. Of the environmental factors, latitude and average temperature in the coldest month (January) were relatively less contaminated by the effects of human intervention, thus enabling the identification of suitable restoration areas of the evergreen broad-leaved forests. The tolerance range analysis of evergreen broad-leaved forests showed that they mainly grew in areas south of the latitude of 34.7° and a monthly average temperature of 1.7℃ or higher in the coldest month. Therefore, we predicted the areas meeting these criteria to be suitable for restoring evergreen broad-leaved forests. The suitable areas cover 614.5 km2, which occupies 59.0% of the total forest lands on the islands of Jeollanamdo, and 73% of actual forests that exclude agricultural and other non-restorable forest lands. The findings of this study can help forest managers prepare a restoration plan and budget for island forests.
