A Comparative Study on the Functional Compounds of Color Potatoes

  • This study was carried out to obtain a basic information for the improvement of human health and the development of variety through analysis of organic compounds, contents of three CQA(3-caffeoylquinic acid, 4-caffeoylquinic acid and 5-caffeoylquinic acid) and five anthocyanin (petunidin-3-p-cumaroylrutinoside-5-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-p-cumaroylrutin-oside-5-glucoside, peonidin-3-p-cumaroylrutinoside-5-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-p-feruloyl-rutinoside-5-glucoside and peonidin-3-feruloylrutinoside-5-glucoside)to color potatoes is Hong-young(HY) and Ja-young(JY). The analytical results on organic compounds in color potatoes were shown as follow, The contents of CQA and Anthocyanin of JY variety were shown to be higher than HY, while CQA and Anthocyanin were appeared to be highest in peel of JY. Overall, JY had higher amount of physicochemical properties than HY. The results of this study reveal the quantitative analysis of functional compounds seperated from various kind of potatoes, which will enable the acquisition of new bioactive candidates and the establishment of new profit generation models for farmers.

Flavonoids from Leaves and Exocarps of the Grape Kyoho

  • We analyzed and compared profiles of flavonols extracted from leaves and exocarps of the grape Kyoho by TLC, HPLC and UV spectrophotometry. In the exocarps, quercetin 3-O-glucoside was the main compound while isorhamnetin 3-O-glycoside (I) was present in minor amounts. In leaves, on the other hand, quercetin 3-O-glucoside and quercetin 3-O-glucoside-7-O-glucronide were the major compounds while isorhamnetin 3-O-glycoside (II) and kaempferol 3, 7-O-diglycoside were present in minor amounts.

홍화의 후라보노이드 성분 (Constituents of Carthami flos)

  • Sevral flavonoids were isolated from the ethanol extract of Carthami flos which has been used in treatment of uterin congestion and also as analgesic and antiinflammatory. They were elucidated as kaempferol, quercetin, 6-hydroxy kaempferol, kaempferol 3-glucoside (Astragalin), quercetin 3-glucoside (isoquercitrin), quercetin 7-glucoside (quercimeritrin), kaempferol 3-rutinoside and quercetin 3-rutinoside (rutin). The structures of the isolated compounds were established by spectroscopic and chemical methods.

  • Cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G), an anthocyanin, is one of the most widespread dietary flavonoids. We investigated the effects of C3G in PMA/ionomycin (PI)-induced RBL-2H3 cells. C3G inhibited the production of IL-4 and IL-13 and also decreased the level of mRNA in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, western blot analysis implied that C3G down-regulated the protein level of c-Jun, NF-ATc1 and NF-${\kappa}B$ but not c-Fos. Taken together, we suggest that C3G may have suppressive effects on Th2 cytokines and will be studied further to develop as functional foods that help alleviate allergy symptoms.

  • Anthocyanins are water-soluble glycosides and acylglycosides of anthocyanidins, having different color variations due to its substitution patterns. Anthocyanins, present in various fruits, vegetables and crops as natural colorant, have been well characterized for its bioactive properties, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory properties. During extraction and purification, the factors, such as pH, temperature, oxygen, light, enzymes, nucleophilic agents, sugar derivatives and co-pigments, have affected on anthocyanin stability. For this reason, the extraction method should be thoroughly checked for the qualitative/quantitative analysis of anthocyanin in particular plant material. To identify the optimum extraction method of cyanidin-3-glucoside, major anthocyanin of dark purple-colored grains, Oryza sativa cv. Heugjinjubyeo, Phaselous vulgaris, Phynchosia gngularis, Sesamum indium, Rhynchosia nulubilis and Lablab purpureus, reversed-phase HPLC analysis using solvent system of acetonitrile, methanol and water were accomplished.

  • 천연자원으로부터 얻어진 항암 또는 세포독성물질로는 주로 alkaloid, lignan, terpenoid, macrolide 등에 속하는 물질들이고 그 중 sesquiterpene lactone계열 화합물에서 세포독성 및 항종양 활성이 있는 물질이 다수 얻어졌으며 그 대부분은 국화과의 식물에서 분리 보고되고 있다. Achillea 속 식물은 국화과에 속하는 다년생초본으로 남한에는 톱풀과 산톱풀 2종만이 자생한다. screening 결과 이 두 식물에는 segquiterpene lactone 화합물과 Peroxide등 다수의 활성성분이 함유되어 있을 것으로 기대되어 본 연구에 착수하였다. 두 식물의 각 분획에 대하여 SNU-1(위암세포주)과 SNU-354(간암세포주)를 이용해 검색한 결과 두 식물 모두 MC ext.와 MeOH ext.에서 현저한 세포독성을 보였으며 현재 MC ext. 로부터 세포독성물질의 분리를 수행하고 있다. EtOAc ext.는 세포독성은 거의 나타내지 않았으나 flavonoid 성분이 다수 존재함을 확인하였으며 면역활성 및 enzyme inhibition등의 활성을 검토하고자 화합물을 분리하였다. 그 결과 톱풀로 부터는 luteolin-7-0-glucoside와 apigenin-7-0-glucoside를 그리고 산톱풀로부터는 luteolin-7-0-glucoside, apigenin-7-0-glucoside, luteolin, apigenin을 분리 확인 동정하였다.

물봉선의 성분에 관한 연구 (II) (Studies on the Constituents of Impatiens textori (II))

  • Impatiens textori Miquel (Balsaminaceae) is an annual plant growing in most parts of Korea. The herb of this plant has been used as a medicine for external application for the snake poison and the bruise. From the herbs of this plant, two flavone glycosides were isolated and the structures were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic methods. The compounds were identified as apigenin 7-O-glucoside (cosmosiin) (I) and luteolin 7-O-glucoside (II). These compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.

  • Spraque-Dawley계 수컷랫트에 단풍취로부터 분리한 화합물을 경구투여하고 혈청 ethanol농도와 간의 ADH 활성에 미치는 효과를 검토한 결과 알코올대사를 촉진시키는 성분은 apigenin $7-O-{\beta}-D-glucoside$로 확인되었다.

  • Five flavonoids, isorhamnetin 3-O-${\beta}$-D-galactosyl-4'-O-${\beta}$-D-glucoside (1), isorhamnetin 3,4'-di-O-${\beta}$-D-glucoside (2), isorhamnetin 3-O-${\beta}$-D-(6-O-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnosyl)glucosyl-4'-O-${\beta}$-D-glucoside (3), isorhamnetin 3-O-${\beta}$-D-(6-O-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnosyl)glucoside (4), and isorhamnetin 3-O-${\beta}$-D-(6-O-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnosyl) galactoside (5) were isolated from the stems of Opuntia humifusa (Raf.) Raf. and their structures were identified based on LC-MS and NMR data.
