An Explorative Study on Using the Method of Natural Family Planning (자연적 가족계획방법 사용에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • This study was attempted to understand experiences of the users of natural family planning(NFP) by applying Q-methodology. 37 statements were used to Q population through literature research and interviews. For the P sample. I interviewed personally 30 people who had taken a lesson in NFP for over 6 months and had been using and experiencing it autonomously for more than 2 years so far, and asked them to Q-classify the statement cards in order of the degree of approval, from the one they most approved to the one they least approved. Data were coded and input into a computer and were analyzed using QUANL PC Program. In this study, I discovered 4 types of experiences by the users of NFP and named them each according to their features: the first, a type of mutual control with morality, the second, a type of the pursuit of mutual -cooperation, the third. a type of the pursuit of conviction. and the fourth, a type of the perception of health management. The first type said that NFP was a good contraceptive way in which no drug or devices are used, that the husband's cooperation was needed, and that they became able to control sexual desire with morality. The second type perceived that continuous efforts were required to put NFP in practice, that the, husband's cooperation was essential, and that dialogues between husband and wife were also necessary to use it, and as such they regarded mutual cooperation between husband and wife as highly important. On the other hand. the third type perceived that one's conviction played a big part, that knowledge of physiological changes was useful and the ability to sense physical changes improved. and that one's willpower was important. and thus they regarded one's own willpower as most important. The fourth type reported that this method was a good way to control pregnancy and should be taught about at the beginning of sex education. and thus they were emphasizing the importance of NFP as a helpful way to manage one's health. 1. therefore, intend to provide the following suggestions based on the result of this study. 1) It is necessary to develop a program that allows NFP to be applied to sex education program. 2) It is necessary to analyze factors that affect the execution of NFP. 3) It is necessary to analyze causes of failure of those who fail to execute NFP.

Design of 2nd-harmonic Quadrature Mixer for Ultra Wideband(UWB) Systems (2차 고조파를 이용한 UWB 시스템용 쿼드러쳐 혼합기 설계)

  • This paper presents an ultra wideband(UWB) direct conversion mixer for IEEE 802.15.3a applications with simulation and measurement results. Since the direct conversion mixing causes dc-offset and even-order distortion, the proposed mixer adopts an anti-parallel diode pairs(APDPs) to solve these problems. The proposed mixer consists of an in-phase wilkinson power divider over $3.1{\sim}4.8GHz$, a wideband $45^{\circ}$ power divider over $1.5{\sim}2.4GHz$, and miniatured band pass filters(BPFs) for RF-LO isolations. The conversion loss is optimized with impedance matchings between APDPs and wideband components. The measured mixer shows the conversion loss of 13.5 dB, input third-order intercept-point($IIP_3$) of 7 dBm, and 1-dB gam compression point($P_{1dB}$) of -4 dBm. Quadrature(I/Q) outputs have the magnitude difference of about 1 dB and phase difference of ${\pm}3^{\circ}$.

Sorption Characteristics of Arsenic on Furnace Slag by Adsorption Isotherm and Kinetic Sorption Experiments (등온 및 동적 흡착 실험을 통한 제강 슬래그의 비소 흡착 특성)

  • Sorption characteristics of arsenic on furnace slag were investigated to remove arsenic from groundwater using furnace slag, which is industrial waste generated from steel company. Adsorption isotherm experiments and kinetic sorption experiments were performed and the chemical characteristics of supernatants from these experiments were analyzed. Results showed that all supernatants were alkaline (above pH 9) and the highest ion concentration in the solution was found with calcium (30~50 mg/L). Results of adsorption isotherms were more adequately described by the Freundlich model than Langmuir model. From adsorption isotherms experiments, it was noted that the adsorption amount of As(V) was 87% higher than that of As(III). Results of kinetic sorption experiments were more properly fitted by pseudo second order (PSO) model than pseudo first order model. Equilibrium adsorption amount ($q_e$) and relaxation time ($t_r$) calculated from PSO model increased with initial concentration of arsenic. Equilibrium adsorption amount of As(V) was higher than that of As(III) and relaxation time of As(V) was shorter than that of As(III). Adsorption isotherm results could be predicted by kinetic adsorption results, since equilibrium adsorption amount calculated through PSO model generally agreed with equilibrium adsorption amount measured from adsorption isotherm.

Identification of novel mutations of the ATP7A gene and prenatal diagnosis of Menkes disease by mutation analysis (DNA 분석을 이용한 ATP7A 유전자의 새로운 돌연변이 발견과 멘케스병의 산전 진단)

  • Purpose : Menkes disease is an X-linked recessively inherited disorder caused by the mutation of the ATP7A gene encoding copper-transporting P-type AT Pase. The phenotypic features are progressive neurological degeneration, mental retardation, loose skin, and vascular complications. Early diagnosis and treatment are very important for the prognosis of Menkes disease. Here, we describe nov el mutations of the ATP7A gene and prenatal diagnosis by mutation analysis. Methods : Five unrelated Korean Menkes patients were included in this study. They presented with depigmented wool-like hair, progressive neurologic deterioration, and hypotonia in infancy. Serum copper and ceruloplasmin levels w ere decreased. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed tortuous intracranial vessels. Mutation analysis has been carried out using cDNA from cultured skin fibroblasts or genomic DNA from peripheral leukocytes. Prenatal diagnosis was performed in two cases using chorionic villi samples or amniocytes. Results : Four novel mutations have been identified from four different families; c.3511+1G>A (p.E1099_N1171delinsMfsX 18), c.4005+5 G>A (p.V1268_R1335del), c.1870_2172del (p.S624_Q724del), and c.3352 G>A (p.G1118S). T he remaining one was previously reported (c.1933 C>T (p.V 1268_R1335del)). On prenatal DNA analysis, one w as diagnosed as normal, while the other turned out to be a female heterozygote with p.S624_Q724del mutation of the ATP7A gene. Conclusion : We identified 4 novel mutations of the ATP7A gene. Prenatal diagnosis in families at risk is critical in order to choose preventiv e options including an early treatment with copper-histidine therapy or therapeutic termination. Most mutations of the ATP7A gene were frame-shift mutations and prenatal diagnosis has been successfully carried out.

  • In this paper, an algorithm for recovering the 3-D shape from a single shaded image is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, by using the relation between the height and surface gradient (p, q), a set of linear equations is derived from the linearized reflectance function. Then the 3-D surface is recovered by employing the conjugate gradient technique. In order to improve the convergence speed of the solution, we also employ the hierarchical basis function and multiresolution images in the algorithm. A method for determining the regularization parameter, which is determined by trial and error in the conventional approach, is also introduced. In addition, the proposed algorithm attempts to recover the 3-D surface without requiring the boundary conditions, making it suitable for a real-time implementation. Simulation results for real image as well as synthetic image are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

Stabilization of Bioluminescence of Immobilized Photobacterium phosphoreum and Monitoring of Environmental Pollutants

  • Stability of bioluminescence was investigated with Photobacterium phosphoreum immobilized on the strontium alginate in order to develope continuous real time monitoring of pollutants. The stability of bioluminescence emission was improved by prolonged aging time. The aging time of ${\geq}40$ min and the cell concentration of ${\leq}0.6\;of\;OD_660$ were selected for the immobilization of P. phosphoreum to give linearity between cell concentrations and bioluminescence intensity. In sensitivity tests using phenol, it was found that this compound quenched bioluminescence proportional to the concentration without lowering of cell growth. The lower value for maximum quenching ($q_s$) and higher dissociation constant ($K_s$) were observed with strontium-alginate immobilized cells compared to free cells. The response of bioluminescence to toxicants was evaluated with the immobilized luminescent bacteria. The sensitivity of the immobilized cells was found to be good in response to toxicants, 4-nitrophenol, salicylate and cadmium, when evaluated with a specific rate of bioluminescence quenching.

  • The Schensted algorithm first described by Robinson [5] is a remarkable combinatorial correspondence associated with the theory of symmetric functions. $Sch{\ddot{u}}tzenberger's$ jeu de taquin[10] can be used to give alternative descriptions of both P- and Q-tableaux of the Schensted algorithm as well as the ordinary and dual Knuth relations. In this paper we describe the jeu de taquin on shifted rim hook tableaux using the switching rule, which shows that the sum of the weights of the shifted rim hook tableaux of a given shape and content does not depend on the order of the content if content parts are all odd.

  • In this paper, a unified regenerative inverter and control algorithm are proposed in order to perform regenerative action and active power filter action. While the regenerative mode of traction, it works as regenerative inverter to reduce a excessive power of DC bus line and the powering mode of the traction, it works as active power filter to compensate ac current distortion, power factor, and voltage unbalance. In the paper, a regeneration inverter used PWM DC/AC inverter algorithm. And an active power filter used p-q theory. We are carrying out a mode analysis of DC traction system similar to actual system with MG-set and experimenting with prototype model. Through the simulation and experiment, we were proving the regeneration inverter operation which suggested in this paper.

  • This paper presents an implementation of efficiency optimization of reluctance synchronous motor (RSM) using a neural network (NN) with a direct torque control (DTC). The equipment circuit considered with iron losses in RSM is analyzed theoretically, and the optimal current ratio between torque current and exiting current component are derived analytically. For the RSM driver, torque dynamic can be maintained with DTC using TMS320F2812 DSP Controller even with controlling the flux level because a torque is directly proportional to the stator current unlike induction motor. In order to drive RSM at maximum efficiency and good dynamics response, the Backpropagation Neural Network is adapted. The experimental results are presented to validate the applicability of the proposed method. The developed control system show high efficiency and good dynamic response features with 1.0 [kW] RSM having 2.57 inductance ratio of d/q.
